What a charming hotel! Located on the river, and shaded by old oak trees, the ocean is just a few short blocks away. Suite 10 on the second floor, overlooking the river, has plenty of room and is charming and comfortable. The staff are pleasant and helpful and they provide a simple but adequate breakfast. I peeked at a couple of the other rooms and they looked very well appointed too. A nice touch was the turndown service, chocolates, and free bike rentals.
The Riverview os one of my favorite places in Florida. An 1890s gem that has been restored and maintained o \\to perfection. Within walking distance to many restaurants, shops and clubs in New Smyrna Beach, it's a perfect get-away destination. Excellent welcoming staff and modern amenities. The boat docks next door were taken by Hurricane Mathew, but everything else is still first-class.
The rooms are absolutely lovely, and the staff couldn't be nicer. But indeed the breakfast is a total joke. You only get to choose two items and the portions are TINY. It is as if this hotel is singlehandedly trying to prove that Americans are capable of serving small portions of food... It's a bit incomprehensible that a hotel with a restaurant would serve such a poor breakfast. Also, the only option for breakfast is in your room. The balconies (which are wonderful) have a table and seats where you could feasibly take your breakfast, but ours was facing the sun, and in the Florida summer this isn't a very pleasant experience. The fact that they have bicycles at the guest's disposal is a big plus for getting to the beach. We had a poolside room which was beautiful, but sometimes a bit noisy as we could hear music and guests...
My husband and I booked the hotel for one night. We flew down from New York and experienced very long delays. The flight is normally 2 and a half hours-we ended up flying for 11 hours! Arrived at the hotel at 3 .m. exhausted. We were greeted at the door by a very welcoming and friendly desk clerk. She was wonderful. She helped with our luggage and assisted us to our room. She was very understanding as we were extremely weary after our travels. The room was immaculate I highly recommend.
A quick midweek adventure at the beach. Nicely situated on the inlet waters and an easy walk to shops & restaurants on Flagler Avenue. After time at the beach, we checked in. The cool air-conditioning was very welcome. "Adorable" is best word to describe the lobby/gift shop. Cookies & coffee are available all the time. We stayed on 2nd floor overlooking the pool. Had a nice open verandah. Although it was a small room, it was beautifully furnished. We loved the built in cabinets for our clothes. The bed was super comfortable and we slept soundly. Our only wish would be a small refrigerator to keep our drinks cold. Staff was wonderful and accommodating to our few requests. Time spent there was very relaxing. Recommend!
This is one of the oldest buildings in town, but it has been restored nicely and well maintained. Older buildings require some patience, waiting for hot water and for shower to drain. The room was nice and large and clean. The pool is a good size, with plenty of seating as well as cabanas. The lobby area was well appointed. The wine reception was a nice touch. The hotel location is convenient for seeing the town. There were problems. The breakfast is a joke. One day I got a single boiled egg and a small glass of juice. Another day I got nothing; waited, waited but had to get on the road. Coffee and cookies are always available, so that’s what I got. The guests in the room above me started drumming on walls and floor in the evening, wham, wham, wham, continuing well past midnight, punctuated by screaming. A noisy late night altercation involved the kitchen staff of the adjacent restaurant. Parking is an issue. They give you a tag to put in your car to show you are a guest, but less than half of the parking spots were occupied by cars with a visible tag.
We celebrated our anniversary in New Smyrna Beach. We’ve never stayed at the Riverview Hotel, the website looked good, great reviews on TripAdvisor, so we made reservations. The young lady that checked us in was professional and cheerful, made us feel welcome. Our clean and comfortable room was on the third floor with a balcony that overlooked the river. The hotel is very well maintained. The furnishings are charming and cozy. The guests can enjoy fresh baked cookies, coffee and tea in the lobby. Evening turn down service includes mint chocolates and robes. The soap, shampoo and conditioner are “upscale” and smell lemony fresh. Every morning we ate the complimentary breakfast on our balcony, watched the boats go by and the fish feed on the surface. The last day of our stay we saw some dolphin. There are several restaurants within walking distance. The beach is about 4 or 5 blocks from the hotel with lots of little shops on the way. Our car stayed parked in the shade of an ancient oak tree. We really enjoyed our stay and may not wait for our next anniversary to return. Maybe we’ll see you there!!
So I booked Riverview for my best friends bachelorette party. I know it doesn't seem like a good place for such an event bc of its quaintness, but I had previously gotten spa services here and I knew we could relax before a crazy night out. LET ME TELL YOU, Dennis at the front desk is a frickin angel. Without getting into too much detail, he and the staff (both at the hotel and spa) went above and beyond their duties to accommodate and flawlessly execute my crazy requests...not to mention tolerate our crazy group of girls. The hotel itself is in an ideal location, right off Flagler avenue which holds the majority's NSBs restaurants, bars and shops. It's also down the street from the beach. The vibe of the hotel brings coastal charm with vintage style that begins in the lobby and ends in your room. The beds were one of the best I've ever felt (especially after the crazy night we had). The only thing they lack their rooms is a mini fridge, a minor inconvenience. I'm not sure if all the rooms are like that but ours was.
The staff at the Riverview Hotel is absolutely OUTSTANDING and the most accommodating group of people I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with in the hospitality industry. I booked a room at the Riverview to get dressed in and stay in for my husband and I on August 3, 2017. On our wedding day, the venue where we were to have our dinner/reception (it was a very upscale, popular restaurant in NSB), called to inquire about our dinner plans - we had previously spoken with the restaurant staff on two occasions and made a reservation for ourselves and a few guests as our wedding was a very small, intimate gathering - and the assistant manager on the phone was incredibly rude and condescending regarding our reservation. He was more concerned about his staff and how much money they would be making on us (which would have been a lot considering the average entree there is around $25) over providing a dining experience we were excited to have there. After the phone call, my now-husband and I decided that we no longer wished to patronize that establishment. I called the Riverview and explained the situation to them and inquired about a reservation in the Riverview Grille, to which they were more than happy to accommodate. To make matters worse on that day, typical afternoon FL weather rolled in and did not let up as usual by the 7pm hour, and our wedding coordinator did not have a backup plan (actually their plan was to schedule the wedding for the following day! NO!, also they will not be getting a good review from me) We asked the Riverview Grille if we could have the wedding in the restaurant and to our surprise they happily obliged by letting us use a private room upstairs! Our photographer captured SO MANY beautiful shots of us in and around this property. They went above and beyond every expectation to make my wedding day as spectacular as I ever imagined it could be and more. The 132 year-old Inn itself is pristine and breathtakingly beautiful, while still being comfortable with modern conveniences. We have decided we will be staying at the Riverview Hotel on our anniversary for as long as we can. It is worth every penny.
My friends and I rented a suite to celebrate my bachelorette weekend and we had the best experience one could ask for. Dennis was more than accommodating, the ladies at the spa were lovely and took great care of us, the suite was perfect! Couldn't have asked for a better experience. I'm coming back to this Inn and suite every opportunity I get! Thanks guys, you made my weekend so special!
