We love to stay at inns and this one did not disappoint. It is clean and well maintained. It has a dock across the street where you can sit and enjoy watching the boats go by and dolphins. Really enjoyed the sunrise from the upstairs balcony. The only disappointment was the breakfast, during the week we were informed there is no options. We try to eat somewhat healthy and the only option at breakfast was French toast, something we would never eat, the few bites I did take were good but I would have preferred a scrambled egg at least.
There are no words to express the special place that the Black Dolphin holds in our hearts. While staying here last year (our second visit), we learned from the family that they were planning elopement packages. We knew at once that it would be an ideal place to get married. All we had to do was book the room (honeymoon suite which is gorgeous!) and Brett took care of everything else from flowers to the photographer. It was absolutely perfect and exactly what we wanted! The entire family is delightful and welcoming. The Black Dolphin will always be one of our favorite destinations and we will continue to visit for years to come.
The rooms are so special. Very nicely decorated and creative. Our bed was extremely comfortable and we enjoyed the sitting area. The space is simply peaceful. Even though it is located right along the road it still felt secluded. The breakfast was good, they accommodated me as I have a shellfish allergy (the breakfast was shrimp and grits). The dock across the street is a lovely place to celebrate the salty world that connects us. We loved watching the dolphins every night. Both my husband and I went for Runs daily and there are excellent sidewalks with stunning views. The staff was very accommodating, professional, and friendly. We will definitely be back! The only thing I wish was different was that they didn’t put out pre made cookies and cupcakes for snacks! The breakfast is so fresh and thoughtful that the store bought baked goods just don’t jive! This place even offers bikes and fishing rods (with bait!) for guests!! It is elegant, and comfortable ❤️
The Smith family has created a jewel of a destination: it is worth the trip to NSB just to stay at their inn. They and their staff offer the kinds of amenities that make a vacation complete: a delicious, hearty breakfast every day, all-day snacks, bicycles and kayaks to use at no additional cost, and abundant local knowledge. The whole family pitches in to help with management and hospitality; everyone is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. During our stay we saw guests of all ages, and everyone seemed content. The property was fully booked while we were there but never felt crowded. Note on rooms: We stayed in room 105, a ground floor suite with a separate entrance and it was like having our own little cottage. Highly recommend!
My second visit .Brought a couple with us. We all thought this is one of the nicest B and B we have stayed at. We have stayed at many. Our room was directly facing the river. The view was wonderful. Our friends room was very spacious and decorated nicely. Breakfast was delicious and owners and staff were helpful and warm. We will be back. Go and treat yourself!
This is an adorable place to stay! A historic house right across from intracoastal... Where to begin.... we were greeted by Patricia, a lovely lady, she took us around and showed us all that was available to us and then escorted us to our room! Besides being a beautiful place they have not missed any details... flowers... wine and beer available for a small fee, free coffee, tea, sweets, fruits available all the time... beautiful porches, excellent dock to sit down and enjoy the view...cannot say enough! They even have 2 hook ups for electric cars! The breakfast (which is included) was excellent! The whole staff welcoming and friendly!!! Would even recommend it for small celebrations! Definitely going back when in the area.
When you look up Bed and Breakfast in the dictionary as us older couples would do, or on line for all those others, it should show Black Dolphin Inn ! The rooms are all unique but also all outstandingly decorated and beautiful to relax in. The Breakfast is simply amazing, from the food to the great conversations who can have with other guest around the table. The owners also making you feel so very welcome and special. My wife took me here last Wed. and Thur. for my retirement, wanted to do something special for me and my oh my it was so very special. We have been many places to stay and for the total package Black Dolphin Inn beats all ! Treat yourself some day and give it a try, you will not be disappointed. Ask questions, owners have vast knowledge or area, where to dine, outdoor activities...Thanks for wonderful couple of days - Rita and John Porter
This is the most amazing property in the area. The decor, service, and food are second to none. Don’t even try to decide where to stay in NSB - this is the place! The decor is amazing and on par with what you will find in a large city. It’s a family run inn with an emphasis on service and quality of the stay. I can’t recommend it enough!
My family booked 3 rooms for a few nights and everyone loved the place. The food, service and décor were all great. I was able to bring my dog as they offer a few pet friendly rooms. The bathroom was very up to date with glass tile and the room was very spacious. I really enjoyed the dock with plenty of seating. Family run and everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it.
rooms were wonderful, clean, spacious & I had a handicap access shower (could have rolled a wheelchair in if need). The family and all employees were very friendly ;constantly asking if we needed anything more. Breakfast .......fantastic ..cooked to your individual liking. coffee & tea were available 24 hrs. This is probably the best B&B I have stayed in. Oh, it's on the Halifax river and they have a private dock with seating. Yaaa.
