My husband and I are recent "empty nesters". When our son was unable to spend Christmas with us, we knew we needed to plan a getaway to lift our spirits. After searching the Select Registry Inns to find an inn in Florida that was within a day's drive of Atlanta, we booked 5 nights at The Black Dolphin Inn... I am delighted to say that The Black Dolphin Inn surpassed our expectations. The moment you walk into the lobby of this beautiful inn, you can feel the stress begin to melt away. The decor, which includes the gorgeous and carefully selected lighting, sets the tone for relaxation. We arrived late in the evening, after a long trip filled with traffic delays, and we were warmly welcomed by Patricia. We especially appreciated the fact that Patricia gave us a thorough tour of the inn, showed us how to operate some of the amenities in our suite, told us about breakfast, and showed us where we could find complimentary snacks and beverages; she also gave us a suggestion for dinner, since we hadn't eaten. The warm hospitality continued throughout the course of our stay. Even though the weather was unexpectedly chilly, we truly enjoyed talking with the innkeepers and other guests, exploring the charming town of New Smyrna Beach, dining out at some of the town's restaurants, exploring the National Seashore, traveling to the town of Lakeland to see Frank Lloyd Wright's legacy of buildings at Florida Southern University, and strolling the amazingly wide beaches of New Smyrna Beach. We will return to The Black Dolphin Inn as soon as we can, as we have other areas to explore in New Smyrna and the surrounding area. It is important to say that The Black Dolphin Inn is truly a destination in itself. It was a perfect cure for "empty nesters" like us. Thank you Brett, Sheila, Kenzie, Patricia, Taylor and Linda for the relaxation and rejuvenation! Well done!

So many great things to say about this vacation destination. The rooms were unique and homey. The location is relaxing and beautiful. The dock is such a nice feature to have to sit outside and is furnished wonderfully. My fiance and I truly enjoyed our stay over the Fourth of July holiday. What really makes this a fantastic place to stay is the family (and staff) who own and operate the inn. The breakfast is delicious and everyone is so unbelievably friendly while at the same time allowing you to have a relaxing laid back vacation. They gave us some great tips that really made our trip extra special. The rooms and property are clean. Parking is definitely limited but they make it work to accommodate guests and we never had an issue. Thank you to the Black Dolphin Inn for a great vacation! We cannot wait to return!

This is my third stay at the Black Dolphin Inn. 2 years ago my wife decided we should stay for our 40th anniversary and we now come every year. This is a lovely bed and breakfast made better by the wonderful Smith family. Everyone treats you like you are part of the family! The facilities are top notch. Large, clean rooms. We happen to have dogs; the dog friendly rooms are spectacular -- you would never know dogs spent any time in them. They have a nice dock on the river where you can relax and watch the dolphins, yes, we always see dolphins! Last year, they added a charging station for use by those of us who prefer electrons to gasoline! As a Chevy Volt owner, I really appreciate this upgrade. Finally, they offer a really good breakfast. Their chef has appeared on national TV's Fox and Friends, as well as on the Food Channel and knows how to cook breakfast! And, if per chance she has the morning off, her mom and brother also cook a great meal! We think New Smyrna Beach is a fun little town to visit, and The Black Dolphin Inn is the place to stay!

My partner and I stayed in this lovely establishment for 5 nights and we truly enjoyed our stay. First and foremost the wonderful atmosphere created by the Smith family, Brett, Sheila, MacKenzie and Taylor is one to experience. They really make the guest feel welcome and at home. Add to that the delicious breakfasts served up each morning along with great conversation and you have a winning formula, ensuring that the guest is more than satisfied and wishing to return :-). The rooms are lovely, decorated with an eclectic mix of vintage and modern furniture. Sitting outside on the deck, perched on the Indian River, watching the dolphins swim by is just a lovely experience - and one we didn't expect, so an added surprise for us. Having travelled from Europe we truly enjoyed a great Florida welcome - this is a special place and one to experience - don't just stay one night - stay for a couple of nights to really immerse yourself in the warmth, luxury and friendliness of this B&B. You will not be disappointed.

"Ahhhhh." That's the feeling you get at the Black Dolphin, from the minute you pull up. Classy, well appointed, immediately across from the water, clean and welcoming are all fair descriptors. The family that owns & runs the place make you feel right at home. From the lobby to the guestrooms to the private dock jutting out into the river, it is all extremely tastefully done. This will be our new halfway to Savannah stop from now on! The only minor irritant falls in the category of "people do strange things". Someone staying in the room immediately above us kept walking back and forth all night....with their shoes on. We heard it all night long, as well as anything being talked about up there. So if there was anything I would suggest to the owners of the BDI it would be to consider doing some improved soundproofing between rooms. Bottom line though, wonderful place. We'll be back, along with our dog!

We have stayed at many, many B&Bs in Florida and across the U.S. and have high expectations and desires that are rarely fully satisfied. This weekend was our first stay at Black Dolphin Inn, but it certainly won’t be our last. Across dozens of properties we’ve stayed at, it’s in our top three. The Inn is absolutely beautiful, with wonderful gardens and well appointed rooms. We were in a second story suite at the front of the Inn, overlooking the intercostal water way. Sunrises were amazing. The amenities are varied, with drinks and snacks provided around the clock (which is rare to see). If you’ve read my other reviews, you’ll know that I rarely eat breakfast, but I indulge when we stay at B&Bs. The most amazing thing I experienced here was the variety and selection for breakfasts, especially considering the number of guests they can have at one time. Breakfast is made to order, from a few selections available for the day, but with a lot of variety and choices. And everything we had was delicious!! I’m writing this on the last morning of our stay and I’m looking forward to having their shrimp and grits! The staff here are super friendly, and helpful if needed. We enjoyed learning more about the history of the property and the founders (check out the interview on their website, too). We got a recommendation for dinner at Riverpark Terrace, and it was outstanding. We would have never known or found out about it, but it’s on our go-to list now. In summary, we had a fantastic stay, exceeding our expectations and we will most certainly be back!

We expected something really nice given its awards and accreditation but were blown away! Highest 5 is deserved across the board. From absolutely breathtaking decor, views, and beautifully crafted unique lighting in every room, to the wonderful and personable family that owns/runs it, to the delectable gourmet breakfast, I cant fathom anyone not enjoying every aspect of the Black Dolphin Inn. I just took my mom for our annual mother/daughter trip for 2 nights and we are sure to be back! The ambiance was surreal, made us feel like we were in paradise. Highly recommend this place for couples, families, and small parties. A boutique inn with sophistication without an ounce of pretentiousness.

After several wonderful visits, spent first night of honeymoon there. Excellent in all respects - building, grounds & room; gracious hospitality; fabulous breakfast prepared by Mackenzie. Hope to return soon.

My mom lives in New Smyrna Beach. When we visit her and need a night away from our kiddos we come to the Black Dolphin. We always splurge an stay in one of their premium Bayfront units. We have stayed in Room 101 and 201. They have big bath tubs, beautiful decor (every room is different in style, which we LOVE) the rooms are always clean and lets not talk about the extremely comfy bed. It is such a relaxing night stay. They have wonderful treats, teas, and fresh squeezed juices to enjoy during the day. I can not say enough about their breakfast. It is world class!!! We have had the french toast, pancakes and hash bowls. Seriously, we can not say enough about how wonderful the food is during the week and on the weekends. The food quality is always on point! The staff is overly friendly from housekeeping, the over night managers, the owners and the chef. We do have a very special place in out hearts for this B&B as my mom always brings our boys to us the next morning. We go out to their dock and take pictures. We have gotten pictures of both of our boys at the same age. If you are looking for a luxury experience this is it! Thank you Black Dolphin for helping us relax and create lasting memories.

We had the Honeymoon Suite and it was...awesome! We were very taken aback by how beautiful it was. The Suite was accommodating and I loved the decor. From the atmosphere, to the staff, to the food (p.s. loved the variety), to the amenities. We were able experience New Smyrna Beach and all it had to offer. My husband and I cannot wait to go back!!!!
