Ya ever pull up to an old hotel or B&B and say, "Wow! This is a really cool, old building!" And then you get inside and it smells like your grandma's house when you were a kid? Well, the first part definitely happens when you pull up to the Black Dolphin (pay attention when you get close or you might drive right past it... I did). But, sorry to say for those of you who miss the Ben-Gay/mothball/homemade chicken soup combination reminiscent of granny's place, you won't get that here. Quite the contrary. The inside of the inn has all the fancy and modern accoutrements that we know and love. Sure, it comes at a price. But I'm sure you've paid top dollar at many a place to lay your head only to find that you would've been better off looking for the light that Tom Bodett left on for you. I won't write about the usual stuff cuz that bores me and I reckon it's been written about to the nth degree (whatever that means). Suffice it to say, it was all good. But I'll tell you this, the Black Dolphin has the BEST IRON I have ever used in any place I've stayed in. As a former Navy man (the squared away, "A Few Good Men" kind, not the fat, slovenly kind) and someone who takes pride in crisp clothing and razor-sharp creases, I truly appreciate a good iron. I normally cringe knowing I'm going to have to use a hotel iron but I was delightfully surprised to see the heat-packing, steam-gushing powerhouse that the Black Dolphin had waiting for me in the closet. Oh, they've got a nice dock across the street too.
I only have a few things to add to the wonderful and completely accurate reviews earlier on this terrific property----- have spent the last 15 years in the luxury private jet and travel industry, I can honestly say this property is among the best we have every enjoyed staying at. The facilities are world class but the real game changer is the people there. Brett , Taylor, Mackenzie and all of the small personable staff clearly love what they do and it shows. If you stay here, and I hope you do, they will make you feel like part of the family- and also in a world class, charming and exciting B and B. Read the other reviews for more details. Well done Brett and staff :)
We live in New Smyrna but wanted a weekend getaway so we stayed at the Black Dolphin Inn. It was absolutely wonderful. Everyone there makes you feel so comfortable and welcome. All the details from the decor to the afternoon refreshments to the breakfast are amazing! Would definitely recommend a stay here.
Once you walk in to the Black Dolphin Inn, you feel you are in NSB , the colours , the deco, the atmosphere is amazing . Patricia who i have nicknamed superwomen as she went above and beyond helping my wife with our huge suitcases since we have been on an extended road trip from Savannah and Jacksonville, she also gave us some great recommendations for dinner , which we loved. The room was so big and everythought was put into the room, i would also stay here when we have a chance , and the breakfast was beyond amazing. So happy to find this place and trust me I am not an easy customer and everyone who works there loves there job and it shows. Thank you to the Black Dolphin Inn.
We absolutely loved this bed and breakfast! We brought our two teenagers and they had a. Last. The whole staff is friendly and welcoming and the food was amazing! Pet friendly too! We will defin be returning!
All facilities are first rate. Room was beautiful. Chef was Mackenzie, Brett's daughter, and her breakfasts were great. She has her own food blog at GrilledCheeseSocial.com and will also be on a food network show in August. Location overlooking the Indian River is great. Hope to return.
My family and I cannot say enough good things about The Black Dolphin Inn from the picturesque location along the Indian River to the top notch service provided by Patricia, Brett, and the rest of the staff. All the hosts at the Black Dolphin are as gracious and accommodating as any I've ever seen in over 30 years of traveling both internationally and domestically. The Inn was well decorated and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The conveniently located dock along the River provides the perfect locale to enjoy a sunset cocktail or a morning cup of coffee. In spite of the excellent service, cozy accommodations, and plentiful amenities, the highlight of our stay had to be the personalized breakfast professionally prepared by Chef MacKenzie. Her breakfast tostados and mixed fruit compote comprised literally the best breakfast I've ever eaten in a hotel or B&B. Do NOT miss this Inn. Our only regret is we couldn't stay longer!
Brett and his lovely wife, son, and daughter have the most amazing coastal B&B that is truly set--up for socializing with your significant other and also the guests. If you go once I guarantee it is only the start of a long term relationship with Brett's team as they truly want to have a relationship with each and every customer long-term. I have being utilizing this most amazing place for 3 years now. As a CEO of an international company I have brought people from all over the world and they keep coming back because it is such a special place. Every year I get a room to watch the July 4th fireworks as with the best seat in the house!.....Try them once and you will be back many, many times!
The Black Dolphin beyond exceeded my expectations. The entire Inn is immaculately clean and decorated beautifully, and the room was spacious and full of natural light. Our balcony provided a phenomenal view of the water (yes, there really were dolphins at sunrise) as well as a gorgeous century oak the Inn has built around. Brett was an impeccable host and MacKenzie's breakfast will change your heart for the better. Loved every fleeting moment.
This is our 2nd time visiting and it was just as great as the 1st time. Brett, Sheila, Taylor and McKenzie are wonderful hosts. They are always friendly, personable, and know the area very well. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, and comfortable. McKenzie is an amazing chef and she has some great food choices each morning. If a grilled cheese is on the menu, then you definitely want to try one. Yum!! Each room is designed uniquely and there is a dock across the street for guests to sit, relax and enjoy their favorite beverage. We always feel welcomed here and I am sure you will too.
