We stayed three lovely nights at the Black Dolphin Inn. The innkeepers are friendly, the breakfasts perfect, the rooms spacious, sparkling clean. we can't say enough nice things about our wonderful experience, except that we will be back. We do think we will land in Tampa and drive across to avoid the nightmare that is the Orlando airport, and suggest others may want to consider that. We enjoyed wandering around New Smyrna Beach and found some wonderful treasures in the Antique Mall. The restaurants are great and reasonable. The beach was lovely with hard packed sand and easy access. An east coast, Central Florida dream vacation site.
The Black Dolphin Inn is one of the top 10 bed & breakfast inns in the US. The setting is beautifully restored 1940’s home on the St. John’s river. Every morning you a treated to 2 of 4 (your choice) amazing breakfasts. The staff is very cordial and helpful. They make you feel like one of the family. Our room was wonderful - very comfortable bed and a view of the river.
We loved the Black Dolphin Inn. Very charming and upscale. Beautiful rooms, comfy beds with nice linens. The best part was the breakfast each morning… outstanding. The grounds were perfectly manicured and there is a dock to sit and watch the dolphins. This is a must stay when visiting NSB!
As a result of Hurricane Irma's destructive forces resulting in loss of power and having no a/c, we decided it was time for a vacation. Little did we know at the time of booking that fate had directed us to one of the most pristine, picturesque Inn's along the Central Florida Coast - The Black Dolphin. So for the next 7 wonderful days we enjoyed all that the Black Dolphin Inn had to offer while exploring New Smyrna Beach. To say that our stay, accommodations, service, and meals were pleasurable would be an understatement - they were fabulous in every detail. Inn Keeper Brett, Sheila, Mackenzie, Taylor, and Patricia treated us with the highest quality of service, making us feel that we were not only welcome but also most appreciated as their guests.
The Smith family has created a perfect atmosphere at this fabulous inn. The rooms are impeccably clean, the grounds are relaxing and inviting, and the breakfasts that MacKenzie Smith prepares are delicious. You can't go wrong with the Black Dolphin Inn.
We took a long weekend and took a road trip with the dogs to a quaint beach town, New Smyrna Beach!! The highlight of the trip was our amazing accommodations, the Black Dolphin Inn!!! What a hidden treasure!!! We loved the courtyard view room! It was HUUUGE!!!! Two king beds, decorated amazing........gave us a Logo Welcome Bag for the dogs with treats in them! You can tell this family is passionate about the hospitality business!!! Their daughter, Chef MacKenzie, cooked up a wonderful breakfast featuring a McDolphin Grill Cheese Breakfast Sandwich and then the next morning, Brett's wife made a fabulous French Toast Banana Foster!! The location was perfect! Right across the street from the Indian River and they had a lovely boat dock! The neighborhood was quaint with amazing homes scattered around the tree lined avenues. Very convenient to Flagler Avenue, Canal Street and other points of interest!! Thank you very much for the memorable stay!!
Better late than never! Black Dolphin welcomed us in April in anticipation of our oldest son's wedding. We arrived in waves. My husband n I arrived first specifically for some R&R before the frenetic wedding events. No strangers to B&B's, we were thrilled that, unlike other Inns, we didn't have to come to breakfast at a specific hour nor were we obligated to one dish. As our sons arrived each was greeted warmly and escorted to their rooms. Our youngest and his wife enjoyed taking our granddaughters across the street to the private deck where they got a show from a school of dolphins. The owners could not have been more accommodating. The morning of the wedding we needed to be at the reception venue super early. They had breakfast bagged and ready to go. We were in one of the two Superior Coastal rooms. It was small. But no more than we were in the room, it was fine. We still had lovely views from the window. Courtyard View rooms were HUGE! The groom and his bride live in Edgewater,Fl. They enjoyed their 1st night as Mr&Mrs in a Deluxe Bay View room. Our son is already thinking ahead to their 1st anniversary.
This is by far the best bed-and-breakfast we have stayed at on the Fl East Coast. Relais & Châteaux quality at half the price. Spacious rooms. Complimentary water and snacks all day and evening. The Breakfast was simply gourmet. This is in a quite neighborhood. One has to Uber or drive over the bridge to the Island to experience charming Smyrna downtown (where majority of restaurants, bars, and shops are).
Ya ever pull up to an old hotel or B&B and say, "Wow! This is a really cool, old building!" And then you get inside and it smells like your grandma's house when you were a kid? Well, the first part definitely happens when you pull up to the Black Dolphin (pay attention when you get close or you might drive right past it... I did). But, sorry to say for those of you who miss the Ben-Gay/mothball/homemade chicken soup combination reminiscent of granny's place, you won't get that here. Quite the contrary. The inside of the inn has all the fancy and modern accoutrements that we know and love. Sure, it comes at a price. But I'm sure you've paid top dollar at many a place to lay your head only to find that you would've been better off looking for the light that Tom Bodett left on for you. I won't write about the usual stuff cuz that bores me and I reckon it's been written about to the nth degree (whatever that means). Suffice it to say, it was all good. But I'll tell you this, the Black Dolphin has the BEST IRON I have ever used in any place I've stayed in. As a former Navy man (the squared away, "A Few Good Men" kind, not the fat, slovenly kind) and someone who takes pride in crisp clothing and razor-sharp creases, I truly appreciate a good iron. I normally cringe knowing I'm going to have to use a hotel iron but I was delightfully surprised to see the heat-packing, steam-gushing powerhouse that the Black Dolphin had waiting for me in the closet. Oh, they've got a nice dock across the street too.
I only have a few things to add to the wonderful and completely accurate reviews earlier on this terrific property----- have spent the last 15 years in the luxury private jet and travel industry, I can honestly say this property is among the best we have every enjoyed staying at. The facilities are world class but the real game changer is the people there. Brett , Taylor, Mackenzie and all of the small personable staff clearly love what they do and it shows. If you stay here, and I hope you do, they will make you feel like part of the family- and also in a world class, charming and exciting B and B. Read the other reviews for more details. Well done Brett and staff :)
