We have stayed here many times, our hotel of choice when in the loop, usually a good experience and good value. This visit was disappointing. The desk staff was disinterested and bored. Just wanted to get through the day. Requested a high floor room, near a second reservation, with a view if possible. We were told the second room was not available on our floor, but could be one floor below us. We were placed on the 5th floor in a tiny room, badly in need of renovation. The second room was later placed in the other tower on the 8th floor. When asked if it could be closer, the answer was "no!" No interest in customer service whatsoever! When we had to extend the reservation by a day, even though we did have a room reserved, we were forced to change rooms! We will reconsider next time we are in Chicago

50 yrs ago this was a glorious hotel but the updates have been minimal.

Hotel was beautiful with a lot of history. Great location. Valet was not the best for $44.00 a night .

Quick check in, friendly staff, clean room, good walking distance to everything

This has been the worse hotel ever. AC DONT WORK. STAFF IS RUDE. I told lady I need to speak to the manager and he goes that’s how it will be. I asked him I was never told AC don’t work and he said, I WASNT SUPPOSE TO KNOW THAT. We asked for fans and they said if they gave us 2 fans, hotel power would trip. I travel a lot. But this has been the worse worst experience. Rooms are horrible.

West enjoyed the location and it's proximity to everything we wanted to do

Be prepared for the historic experience this hotel will give you. It is not a shiny glass and chrome hotel- it is old and historic. Very comfortable though, and the staff are excellent.

We have been to many big city downtown hotels, like Phily, NYC, Boston, this is the WORST, do not go, bath tub, vanity and toilet all clogged up, water drain very slowly, call hotel service, got very bad customer service lady with horrible attitude.

The hotel is an old one and has lots of history. It was awesome architecture and the staff is really great. The bathroom was so small you can barely turn around and there was a leak from somewhere that caused a puddle in the bathroom. The room was stuffy and we could not crack the window open for fresh area so not recommended for people that don’t like confined spaces. The room did have an awesome view of the lake. It has its good points and bad points. But a decent hotel for an old one.

We have excellent impressions of Chicago .River cruise, walk tour and Art Institute were unforgettable

Historic building in a great location but the hotel needs a good scrub. Remodel rooms were done in the cheapest manner possible and is already falling apart. Poor maintenance thru out with wall papers and paint peeling. In our room, the hairdryer and the plugs didn't work. The coffee maker can only be use if you place it on the floor. Great price though

The hotel was in a great location for about anything you want to do in the city, the room was excellent, the bed was a king and it was firn and comfortable, the view of the lake on the higher floors after the 9th floor are amazing, it's a no frills big room, they white washed the rooms probably from all the years of smoking, of course my girl complained that the water wasn't the best but give it a minute and was also fantastic, and the best thing was the price , under 200 with taxes on a sat and Sunday, I give the hotel a fantastic review, and ALS Beef is right around the corner and don't forget Miller Pubs Ribs.

We stayed here for a quick Chicago weekend. Staff was not friendly and the room was old and musty smelling. Everything felt damp. AC was loud and old. Its and old hotel without charm. Wouldn't recommend

The hotel is well located near lots of shops, restaurants, sites of interest. The lobby is a lovely old space. Rooms are small (that is okay) but worn. Amenities in the room are sparse relative to what you might find at modern hotels. The hotel has a lot of charm, but don't expect a microwave/fridge in the room. The price for the room was a bit lower than others around, and that probably reflects the age and amenities in the hotel.

Beautiful hotel with a lot of history. Employees made it seem like an inconvenience to store my luggage there after checkout because of my conference I was attending that day. They ended up being joking but I felt they took it too far and it wasn't a very service oriented attitude. The ladies at the front desk were very nice. Comfortable room with a great view. Would stay again!

So I'll admit i went into this stay with some hesistation based on others reviews. I was expected a typical Chicago style hotel of a cramped room, peeling walls and itchy uncomfortable bed/sheets. Guys... our room was AMAZING! Spring for a lake view suite - you will not be disappointed. I was on the 8th floor and the view was spectacular. We had a sitting room, a bedroom, a bathroom, a hall closest and a bedroom closest that is just about the size of other Chicago hotel rooms I stayed at. Plus the king size bed was super comfortable! The only complaint I could think of is the TVs were super small for the size of the rooms (but we weren't there to watch TV so not a huge deal) and the bath products - bring your own products! They're the generic, don't smell like anything, barely get you clean, rubbery feeling ones. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go on the Mile. Plenty of dining/cafes around. If you want to go a little further like the Navy Pier (which I could see from my room!) get an Uber or Taxi - they're readily available. We did a bit of exploring as well and while the hallways to get to your rooms aren't impressive, all the other details are. The sitting area outside the checkin booth is beautiful. Will definitely consider this again when we return to Chicago!

Hotel had a nice view of the city and was very comfortable. Beautiful hotel!

Friendly staff, nice rooms for price. Restaurants somewhat expensive

Congress Plaza is a great location. Walking distance to all the tourist sites. Reasonable hotel and parking rates.

Good location. Across the street from Grant Park, just a couple blocks from theaters, Art Institute.
