So I'll admit i went into this stay with some hesistation based on others reviews. I was expected a typical Chicago style hotel of a cramped room, peeling walls and itchy uncomfortable bed/sheets. Guys... our room was AMAZING! Spring for a lake view suite - you will not be disappointed. I was on the 8th floor and the view was spectacular. We had a sitting room, a bedroom, a bathroom, a hall closest and a bedroom closest that is just about the size of other Chicago hotel rooms I stayed at. Plus the king size bed was super comfortable! The only complaint I could think of is the TVs were super small for the size of the rooms (but we weren't there to watch TV so not a huge deal) and the bath products - bring your own products! They're the generic, don't smell like anything, barely get you clean, rubbery feeling ones. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go on the Mile. Plenty of dining/cafes around. If you want to go a little further like the Navy Pier (which I could see from my room!) get an Uber or Taxi - they're readily available. We did a bit of exploring as well and while the hallways to get to your rooms aren't impressive, all the other details are. The sitting area outside the checkin booth is beautiful. Will definitely consider this again when we return to Chicago!

Hotel had a nice view of the city and was very comfortable. Beautiful hotel!

Friendly staff, nice rooms for price. Restaurants somewhat expensive

Congress Plaza is a great location. Walking distance to all the tourist sites. Reasonable hotel and parking rates.

Good location. Across the street from Grant Park, just a couple blocks from theaters, Art Institute.

I have stayed at the Congress on several occasions. The location is convenient, the staff very helpful and the room clean and spacious. Rates are very reasonable. My only frustration is that this is a good hotel that could be great. I'd love to see it restored to the glory that it must have had in its heyday. All the history is there. What is needed is a careful and loving restoration.

We stayed here for Lolla and it's location can't be beat.

The Congress is an excellent location with easy access to Grant Park, Museums, Aquarium, Grant Park and the trains. Lobby is stunning, hallways and rooms smell of mold, "old" dirt that just can't seem to be cleaned up. Price is more affordable than other hotels in the area.

This historic hotel is in a great location, great for visiting Chicago. The charming rooms and decor make you feel like you stepped back in time.

Check in was fine, but the desk clerk gave me vague directions and it took me ten minutes to find my room. And when I did get into my non-smoking room it reek of smoke. Because I was running late, I just open the window and it was a little better when I got back. I don't think I would go back to this hotel only for this reason.

The location is great. The room – not so great. Carpet was filthy. Turned white socks black in a very short time. Toilet had refill multiple times a night (but I forgot to tell them). Tub tile had mold. No room thermostat. Told staff and they “made a note.” Very little room for toilet items in bathroom.

Staff excellent. AC struggled. Housekeeping did not refill coffee condiments. Room was cleaned thoroughly. Great location.

It is just a hotel worth the price for its location.

The lobby is beautiful but the room was not! The tub wouldn't drain so there was water while we showered, room smelled old, & you had to pay for a fridge. Upon arrival my reservation had been cancelled and the hotel told me orbitz cancelled when in fact it was the hotel that cancelled. Overall I was very displeased! The only good highlight was most of the staff, especially the valet Steve...he gave us directions, asked us how we were, and was very helpful!!

Convienient, quiet decent location. Near good transportation.

Just the rooms arent sound proof and can hear everything from others rooms ..harrassing security

First of all you have to take into consideration that this is a hotel that was built in the 1860s. With that in mind it's a beautiful old hotel emphasis on old. It took not one not two but three different rooms to finally get one that was acceptable. The first one look like and Frank's attic. The second when you had to step outside of the bathroom to change your mind. The third was acceptable but I was also very surprised that a hotel of this caliber didn't have any kind of refrigeration in the room as in small frig. I can't remember when I stayed in a hotel we didn't have one.

Love the price and the fact that is in downtown, not the most modern but great

Overall the hotel was in a great location (right down the street from Millennium park and close access to the Loop) but that's where the greatness ends. When I arrived at the counter to check-in I was greeted by friendly hotel staff. While friendly they neglected to provide useful information for my stay (complimentary breakfast, the internet information, potential charges, or anything helpful). When I arrived to the room I was slightly disappointed with the condition of the rooms (paint peeling, very VERY thin walls, faucets that didn't work correctly, etc.). To top it off, the Internet (wifi) did not work for myself or my friend who was staying in a different room. Overall this wasn't a big deal to me as I was in Chicago for the City and not the Hotel, but I was expecting more and was slightly disappointed.

Helpful staff but they needed more people to help with check ion!!
