I will never again stay at this hotel. Very outdated and not comfortable at all. Had a horrible odor as well.

Hotel is very dated and has not been maintained. Best thing for the owners of this place to do is tear down and rebuild. He has seen its time.

Dark musty room. Lights burned out, no a/c or heat only a fan.

Pleasant 2 days stay. Red eye (night shift) staff was limited to one person in the front desk.

Returned to room at 4am to find it INFESTED WITH BUGS! Since I was checking out by 6am I didn't request a change in rooms but took pics of the bugs and after showing it to the desk clerk was assured a call by a manager as soon as they got in....STILL WAITING! NO CALL!! THEY JUST DON'T CARE. After returning home I found the same small winged bug in my over night bag.

Hotel needs a lot of work. There was a mugging outside my door in broad daylight on the eighth floor. Luckily nobody was hurt. Hotel security took about 15 minutes to respond.

The only hotel employee that was any where near pleasant was the bellhop when I arrived late on a Monday night. He was super friendly and I thought to myself "Great start!". Every interaction after that was a steep downhill slide. I think the guy at the front desk couldn't read/speak english enough to read my name on his computer screen. He barely said two words to me and it took a very long time for him to find my name and get my room keys. I went to the bar and she was closing...but I apparently should have known that already and should have been ashamed of myself for asking according to the bark and scowl that I received. The room was very nice. You can tell they went to a lot of trouble to renovate an old hotel and create a modern comfort and feel. The hotel is neat if you like old architecture and things like that. I would definitely recommend staying here...but they need to do a much better job hiring and training friendly people.

Love the location of this hotel, easy walking to trains, lots of parks and shopping. Definitly overpriced for the condition though. Tiny little tv in the room, water takes 5 minutes to warm up. Very definitly an aging hotel.

Hotel has been around a long time, that adds character. They need to update a few things (peeling wall paper in halls, worn carpets). Specifically our room had a toilet handle that needed to be jiggled every time or else it continued to run. The air conditioner was not sufficient during the night, I would hate to be in that room when it's really hot outside. I enjoyed exploring the hotel and hanging out in the beautiful lobby.

quick check in and quick check out. Staffs are friendly helping us store our luggage.

Wonderful view! The gentleman who helped me at the front desk was welcoming and cracked a few jokes. The waiter in the restaurant, Anthony, was very professional. The overall space of the room was perfect.

I've stayed here twice and will again ... conveniently located to downtown and an easy train ride from the airport.

Great staff, located close to major museums great views from lake facing rooms

If you are looking for a reasonable, nicely located hotel this is a good place to stay. The hotel is very old so don't expect modern decor. Because it is older the walls are a bit thin so sound travels. I have stayed here three times and the hotel staff has always been friendly. The valet parking service would receive a very poor review from me. One stay included the driver delivering my car late and not liking my tip so he made a snide comment and slammed my door. The last stay, I waited an hour and they kept telling the door man that it was on the way. Turns out they just couldn't find it. Think I will have to find a self park to stay there in the future.

This hotel came recommended form a direct Orbitz employee for being .58 from the convention center, it was over 2 miles away. next the hotel is tired, again came recommended, shower/bathroom., old no hot water and can barely get in the shower as the toilet is next to it. Bar staff- I had to ask twice for drinks and carried them to my party three times, on top of flat soda. The restaurant for breakfast, served the English muffing cold, less silverware, forget it! I am sorry but would not recommend this place.

All the staff were very friendly! Also the valet attendants were wonderful as I was loading and unloading all my luggage. Room was clean. Both beds and bathroom were spotless. The only downside is there is no free parking. Self park to save $5. It was nearly $40 to park my vehicle for the night. The parking is just around the corner and easy to find yourself.

Can't beat the location, overlooking the park and lakefront, right downtown. Within walking distance of many attractions. It's an old hotel, built 1893, and retains much of its original Victorian opulence, but is upgraded with enough modern convenience to be very comfortable. The lobby is stunning. A few rough edges in our room where plumbing and sprinkler systems were installed, but thats the worst I can say. Keep in mind a room with the best view also overlooks a busy road and intersection so traffic noise is a given. But I think those two minor factors are insignificant given the experience of staying in an historic hotel in such a location. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

It's a classic, historic hotel that has been updated to reflect the finest amenities in accommodations. The rooms have always been clean--which is most important--and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The lobby is gorgeous--lots of marble and old-world elegance, and again everything was clean...the hallways smelled clean, the room smelled clean...we have always been happy at the Congress. And it's walking distance to everything! And it's affordable! Great value in downtown Chicago!

Excellent location in the Chicago with tons of things to do close by. The lobby is dated but its old Chicago. The rooms seem to be upgraded and very clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

needed to stay in town during snow storm. it is close to work and price is right. wish they had room service. King bed was great.
