I had to change my room three times because it was impossible to sleep at the rooms due a noise that no one could explain or help. To add to that I had to switch rooms in the middle of night with no support or care from the staff. On my third room I was locked outside for 2 hours due a problem at the door. I don't recommend this experience to anyone, stay away from this hotel.
Excellent location. Great view! We didn’t even ask about the view, desk clerk was very nice give us the room with amazing view. Very beautiful architecture of the hotel. Room was big, clean and nicely furnished. Even though it is old and outdated it is a piece of history. If you're looking for a luxury hotel, this isn't for you. If you enjoy a clean room and appreciate architecture then you will love it here. Enjoyed my stay very much. I’m definitely coming back.
Karen, the sales manager, was the best to work with, in planning a surprise 60th for my sister. She got us booked in an awesome room, on the "haunted" 12th floor of the north tower. She sent us photos of some rooms and helped us pick the perfect one for the occasion. She also personally decorated the room for us the day of the party, with all the decorations we brought ahead of time. It was PERFECT!!! The entire staff was on board with us to pull off the surprise, and they went far beyond the call of duty! We spent some time searching for signs of spirits, and we were not disappointed!!! Johnny D, one of the night security guards, was also so wonderful, and spent quite a bit of time talking with us about events and showing us around places in the hotel we asked him about. We felt like we learned so much from him, and we could tell he really enjoys his job, and sharing his experiences with inquisitive guests like us! One of the carhops, another Johnny, was also great to work with, helping me deliver decorations, watching the car during that hour, and so friendly to talk to once we arrived. Our view of Buckingham Fountain and Lake Michigan was beautiful. The hotel is old, needs repair, etc....but to do too much would ruin the historical look and beauty of it.
We had a wonderful overnight stay at the Congress Plaza Hotel. Our family enjoyed the St. Patrick's Day Parade and the location was just steps from the parade route. We had three rooms and they all were updated with very nice clean white decor. The beautiful details throughout the hotel added to the overall experience. We even had an opportunity to see the ballroom which is completely amazing and a must see if you stay here. You have to be escorted by a security officer because it's typically locked up. As for ghosts, non on the 10th floor, though I've heard and read other reviews claiming activity. I would have given this hotel 5 stars if not for 2 things. There are no thermostats in the rooms (at least that we could find) 2 of our 3 rooms were the perfect temperature, but one was very hot when we arrived. We were able to turn it off, but not adjust it. The second not so favorable thing was the smoking in the bar lingered over into the lobby area. We are from Ohio and all public places are 100% smoke free so this was just something we were not familiar with and the heavy smoke smell, at times was a little offensive. Overall though I would recommend this hotel if you are traveling to Chicago, especially for its great location and historical value.
Hotel lobby was nice, we got checked in right away and room was ready. We were pleasantly surprised with our room. It was small but worked out well for us. Updated bathroom and inside decor. Great location - even though it was cold, we walked everywhere!
What a gorgeous hotel! I was traveling for a business convention and the company booked us all here. I enjoyed walking up the beautiful stairs. The rooms might be older but have great high ceilings and were very clean. They will hold your luggage before/after check-in/out. It allowed me to do some sightseeing at the end of my business trip. Can't wait to return here.
This hotel does not know how to be a hotel. The staff are rude, closed the bar early and refused to serve us, and hung up on us twice when we called to ask about the lack of accommodations. Would never stay again.
I came to Chicago to photograph an exhibit of Greek artifacts at the Field Museum. I wanted a hotel near a bus stop so I could return to the Field Museum the next day for additional photos if necessary or visit the Art Institute of Chicago since it had been seven years since I had been there. I caught a bus at the Field Museum that took me to a bus stop right across the street from the hotel and I could see that I would have a wonderful view of the lake. If it had not been so early in the spring, the trees would have been leafed out and the park would have been beautiful too. When I entered the lobby I was astounded by the beautiful art deco style interior. I checked in and went up to my room where I found a freshly repainted sparkling white room with newly remodeled bathroom trimmed in marble. I was upgraded at no charge to a king-sized bed that was quite comfortable and enjoyed a new HD TV. I stowed my camera gear and went downstairs to the restaurant where I enjoyed a tender and flavorful steak with oven-roasted potatoes and sauteed squash topped with chopped tomatoes. The choices were somewhat limited but my meal was excellent and the service was top notch as well. After a good night's sleep I woke up and went downstairs for breakfast then walked just a few blocks to the Art Institute of Chicago to spend the rest of my day.
Stayed here on a trip to Chicago. The hotel is in a great location opposite Grant Park. We were only in Chicago 4 days but I think got to see quite a lot of stuff due to the location. The hotel room was standard, we stayed in the newer part of the hotel, which I was pretty happy about after reading some of the ghost stories online. In fact I didn't tell my wife about any of these stories until after we had left. I thought she probably wouldn't of slept while we were there if i had told her Overall decent hotel, great location
Some staff had a terrible attitude which makes you think they don't like there job. Parking is bad which I paid $39 for one nigh and $55 if you don't get a discount, A.C is not working so its hot in a room which is hard to sleep and a terrible noise coming out from the bathroom.
