Bathroom shower not so clean, and hotel lobby and restaurant are under renovations. Staff is very courteous, love the angry birds game in the elevators. Bed is comfy, and location is very convenient for RAI station and # 4 tram.
I was going to stay for only one night and didn't really care too much about the quality. The hotel was right next to RAI and the train station so wasn't a bad choice. The room (#612) looked like an OK room when I first entered. However, there were stains on the chairs, the toilet seat was awful (see the picture), and the bathtub was not draining. I took a shower and called the room service. They sent a person to fix it who showed up with a plunger. He claimed there were no problems at first but then he realized the problem himself, plunged for ten minutes and told me that there will be maintenance next morning. He had towels in his hands when he came. I am not sure if he used the towels to dry the plunger or wipe the floor. I can't stop thinking that maybe these towels are same with the towels customers get. He left and I called the manager on call. He told me that he will call maintenance next morning. I told him that I was staying only one night and he accepted to move me a new room. The new room was on the 15th floor. pretty much the same quality material but at least it was clean. There was even a complimentary bottle of water. For some reason, this room was noisier, I was hearing the traffic and some grinding noise. At the end, I couldn't get much sleep and had to leave early morning. Be careful about which room
This is a great hotel if you have an overnight layover. If you're taking a train in from Schipol, the stop is a block away and there is also a tram to the center. I've stayed here twice and each time found it to be quite, comfortable, and easy access. There isn't much around the hotel of interest otherwise.
This was my first trip to Europe and my first international trip in 20 years, they were able to check me in several hours early which was nice though found the lack of a bathroom washcloth very strange (maybe typical for the area), also a single bar of soap. Buffet breakfast was excellent, internet was 22 EUR/day, unlimited pay tv was 7EUR/day more with a special they had going on. Nice clean room, took a while to figure out how to turn the lights on(insert key in special holder), it was decent though in my opinion not nearly as nice as the same hotel chain is in the U.S. (I think it has to do more with style(which is probably attributed to the region) than anything else). If I were to return I would strongly consider staying there. I just have no plans to return to Amsterdam in the future.
The HI Amsterdam is a good hotel designed for the short term, traveler living out of a suitcase. The rooms are modern, nice and, clean; larger than most in Amsterdam. The fitness room is basic yet adequate for a workout. There is hanging closet but little or no dresser space in the room to unpack.
Easy to get a train or tram from there.
friendly helpful staff.
This Holiday inn is convenient to the Schipol airport and very close to both tram service and train service. While probably better for business than leisure travel, it does make it possible to be close to all that Amsterdam has to offer and still have a short hop to get away from it all.
smallish room, no fun amenities to stock up on, BUT it was close to the tram.. hotelpeopple knew what they were talking about and were quite helpful
