Arrived at 5 pm and our room was not ready, after being offered complementary drinks, waited 15 minutes and left due to no service at bar. Got a call 1 hour later that my room was ready and had been upgraded to next level but still not recommended if you like 5 star USA accomidations and service. Had just arrived from Transcontinental flight and hotel had been previously worned of my late arrival. 2nd hotel this vacation that Orbitz reservation gets short end of the stick!

I traveled to Amsterdam on business to conduct witness interviews and decided to extend my stay for a holiday. The experience at this hotel was fantastic from beginning to end. The staff was pleasant and helpful but also provided privacy. They are professionals. The place is well situated and esthetically pleasing and elegant. The flower arrangements were exceptional. The bar tender was wonderful. Cannot praise the place more strongly enough. It was such a pleasant stay I could ignore some of the construction going along the hotel.
Fantastic hotel in Amsterdam. Outstanding location in the city center near all the action. Walking distance to RLD, the palace, the Dam. Superb attention to detail by the staff. Extremely helpful in every way. The only negative was that my room faced a relatively busy and noisy street. That is why I only gave 4 out of 5 stars for room comfort. The room and amenities are all top notch. This is my favorite hotel in Amsterdam. It is expensive.

Very stylish and superior located in middle of Amsterdam. This is the hotel where I allways want to be for my businesstrips to Amsterdam, very clean, good food, located in the center of the center of Amsterdam. The Swiss are known as very demanding regarding hospitality and it was more as I would expect from a Hotel in Amsterdam.
great location, AMAZING hospitality and comfortable contemporary rooms in a historic building. everyone was so helpful-concierge provided us with tickets to everything we did which was very convenient. excellent restaurant(expensive).
Very close to The Red Light District, Dam Square, and other happening areas. Museum District is further away, but a walkable distance for most. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was excellent by European standards. Only disappointment is that they don't have their own shuttle to/from airport.

Amsterdam is rememberable on its own. When you stay in an esablishment like this it adds more memory. Amsterdam doesn't have the nicest hotels if you are middle class like us. We have been there 3 times and never have experienced a hotel experience such as this. They leave you alone they understand you are in AMSTERDAM MAN!! They give you the best service whether you are dirtbags like us or if your the many musicians staying there at the time (Cypress Hill, Blink 182, and Limp Bizkit).
Breakfast buffet great food, poor service and expensive. Service in general just a little off what is expected at this level.

The hotel is just amazing; wonderful location; modern efficient renovation in and old historical building convenient to everything! The staff, especially the concierge, was wonderful!
My girlfriend had $300.00 cash (US Dollars) stolen from the room. We suspect the maids took it, but have no proof. My girlfriend didn't put it in the safe, and left it hidden in her suitcase. She went to the police station in Amsterdam to report it stolen (escorted by hotel security staff) The hotel is not responsible, but it just makes you really 'nervous'. I will admit the security staff did a great job, and knew exactly who was in and out of the room, and even knew what time the safe was open and closed. As a courtesy, The hotel 'comp'd' us a lunch at the Bridges restaurant, and it was easily worth $100 Euro's and was excellent. This was my 2nd stay at The Grand Sofitel, and I have stayed at the Convent, the former/older Sofitel as well. They are going through a renovation, and the indoor pool was not open. The Superior Room was too small for 2 people, so I forked out the $100 euro per night additional for the upgraded suite style room with a desk. ADVICE ON ROOM CHOICE: Ask for the 2nd or 3rd floor ONLY, with a canal view. If you stay on the 5th floor, you will not be able to see the canal from the window. You will only see the roof lines, and miss the beautiful character of Amsterdam. TRIVIA: Michael Jackson stayed at this hotel, when he was in Amsterdam.
