Stayed for 3 nights at the hotel in the first week of May and had an ok stay there. Nice and clean room, but without an aircondition. Excellent location with lots of restaurants, bars and shops just outside of the hotel
Before I start my review of this hotel, I would like to pinpoint that I have stayed at the NH Caransa at least 3 times before in the the past 7 years prior to being a expat in the Netherlands for 3 years (until 2015). We have recently stayed at the NH Caransa for 6 nights between April 14 & 20. We had booked our room with balcony via NH Hotels' website for around 300 euros a night. Upon arrival to the hotel, the checkin process was fast and the reception staff were helpful. Unfortunately, the main elevator was not working so we had to take the service elevator in the back which smelled poorly and increased our waiting times at the elevator door however we thought that this problem would be fixed given the tourist traffic during this time of the year. When we arrived to our room (which supposedly have a balcony), to our surprise the room did not have a balcony but just glass windows with view to Rembrandtplein; not to mention that the toilet is outdated and the cleanliness was poor, both were pretty obvious. Nevertheless, we decided to inform the reception of the mistake with the room but their reply was: that they only have 1 room with a balcony that it is not available at the moment. Given these facts we felt pretty deceived by the false information provided at NH's website as we would not have stayed at this hotel for such a price/ night. After a small conversation with the manager, the problem was resolved and we were promised that the room with the balcony will be available in couple of days, and so it was and we moved to the new room with the balcony, something which truly improved our stay in the Netherlands. During our 6 nights stay at this hotel, we were extremely annoyed by the fact that the main elevator was never fixed and that we had to use the service elevator which at times smelled bad and at other times we could not go in as the room-service staff were inside with their trolleys; not to mention that even the service elevator broke down once and we had to use the stairs up and down 5 stories. All I can say that I would never stay at this hotel again, although all the issues we had were resolved but given a slight comparison between the first time I stayed at this hotel in 2010 and the last time in 2017, all I can say that the service quality at this hotel deteriorated and that the 4 stars that it earned long time ago does not anymore reflect the facts on ground during this time. There is so much room for improvement. Given my knowledge of Amsterdam, I truly believe that are other places that provide better services and a better price.
We stayed 7 days and was impossible sleeping with noisy. No good guest service in hotel. But staff is very helpful when we asked to change the room. The cleaning wasn't the most thorough in terms of dust. Bad pillows. Over priced for quality of room.
We stay here awhile ago and we were retiuring to Amsterdam and had wonderful memories of this hotel. So why not book again We were greated by a friendly young, clerk to be told the type of room we requested was not available and the elevator was broken, and would not be fixed for a week)my husband can't use stairs, then we could use service elevator )Also the hotel is quite worn. So we are here two more nights and won't be back
The hotel is quite small but lovely and clean . The reception staff are all very helpful and friendly. We were a bit unlucky with our stay - the lift wasnt working for the 4 days we were there, we had to use the service lift! Then the water went off due to a burst pipe in the cellars but it was only off late afternoon until early morning. There is also a city tax to pay which you don't find out about until you are leaving-this needs advertising clearly. Our room was at the back overlooking the central heating and other pipe work, but it worked out great as the room was lovely and quiet at night whereas our friends had a room at the front and were kept awake by the noise from the bars! However we thoroughly enjoyed Amsterdam and would recommend it.
Unfortunately, I cannot give this hotel more than three stars. When we arrived earlier than check in the front desk staff said we could have a room that was available but that the room did not have a view. We told her we would be happy to wait. She then said that the hotel was full anyway and we should take the room she offered. We had prepaid and were very disappointed with this option. The room faced another building with no sunshine at all. The room was clean and comfortable though which was important. Upon retrospect we should have requested a different room. Unfortunately the elevator was out of order the entire three days that we were there. The stairwell and the service elevator was very dirty. I did enjoy the breakfast buffet and the lovely breakfast room. Upon checkout a different front desk employee gave us very helpful instructions on how to take the tram to the Central Station which we appreciated very much.
Great hotel with very good service. Location was ideal for sightseeing about half a mile from Dam Square. Tram stop right on the hotel doorstep. Rooms were very clean and well serviced. Breakfast was good.
This staff is very pleasant and responsive. I stayed in this hotel with my 4 year old. The room was small (if you pay more you can probably get something slightly larger) and the bathroom is even smaller. I had a stroller and it was tough to get it out through the space leading to our front door. The room however was clean. During our stay the main elevator was not functional so we had to use the service elevator at the back. The hotel's location is slightly outside the canal belt but it's only a short walk to it depending on where you want to go in the center. There are tons of restaurants and bars right outside of the hotel so it's still a great area and very convenient!
Situated around 20 minutes from Centraal Station and Dam Square, NH Caransa hotel is handy for the museums district of Amsterdam. Quite stylish and modern, but can be noisy at night as Rembrandt Square is a lively area for nightlife. Check-in seemed to take longer than necessary, but staff were helpful. Couldn't fault the room for cleanliness or comfort.
I visited this hotel last week with my elderly Mother. the staff could not have been more helpful especially giving advice as to where we could visit , which trams, letting us check in early etc. Breakfast was a lovely treat with polite and efficient staff. I would highly recommend this. The main lift was broken and we had to use the service lift, no problem really. I would particularly like to mention Barbara on reception who was very kind and helpful, almost like a special friend!
