NH Amsterdam Caransa4.0 out of 5.0

A hotel with a relaxed atmosphere on a beautiful square surrounded by eateries of any kind where one can enjoyed the heated terasses and take in the unique amsterdam atmosphere. Amsterdam is without any doubt one of the most intimate welcoming but still very cosmopolitan cities in the world. Service staff speak a multitude of languages and are keen to do so unlike some cities we know......
Getting to drop off bags and arrival couldn't be worse. Drove around maneuvering around bikes and pedestrians to find how to access hotel. Had to drive off site to a remote non affiliated garage to park. Then haul suitcases a couple of blocks to hotel. Front desk reception staff were more like access desk rather than reception
I booked this hotel with some hesitations because of its less than stellar reviews. Turns out I had nothing to worry about --- it was a good value for the price. The room was fairly large and clean, with decent amenities (bad coffee/tea options, but I don't really care much). The front desk staff was pleasant. The location is good in terms of safety/walking to different places. Keep in mind this is on a noisy tourist square. The sound from inside the rooms didn't bother me at all --- it was less than I experience on a daily basis in NYC --- but may bother someone very sensitive. I heard no noise from others in the hotel. One thing I hated is the half shower wall, but I see that all over in Europe for some reason. Really? Do you not have enough glass to make a full shower wall so that water doesn't leak everywhere into the bathroom?
The hotel is in a great location with many restaurants & bars located within walking distance. It was a very simple hotel with basic amenities.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our room was upgraded and my wife was given a small gift for her birthday, which had passed during the same week. The room was large and comfortable but the finishings, like the hotel as a whole, were showing their age. The location is great for pubs and clubs but the downside is that they are open to the wee hours on the weekends making for a bit of outside noise. All in all it was a good stay but I would probably try to find a different hotel before staying here again.
Tram and bus stops are located right in front of the hotel. There are many restaurants within a block or two. Major museums, flower markets, The Amsterdam Music Theatre, pedestrian shopping district are all within walking distance.
I have used this hotel a number of times. The location on Rembrantplein is excellent. Good quality room. I particularly like the rooms on the higher floors facing the Amstel - which are also quieter.
NH Caransa Hotel couldn't be better located than in the centrum of Amsterdam. With a room where we could have a nice view of the Rembrandtplein made it even better. Right in the center it was easy to get to anywhere. View minutes walk to The Dam Square. With Tram 9 right in front of the hotel you could get to Amsterdam central station where it could take you to anywhere in Holland. we caught the train to and from schiphol airport. We had a pleasant week and are looking forward to go again anytime soon.Only we regret the airport parking in Newark. [...]
Nice hotel. The price was very high for a small room. Extremely high price in fact. It looked 3 star at best. There is no fitness center Breakfast was no breakfast included in the room.
