Columbus is the largest city in Ohio and is on the cutting edge of innovation. As home to one of the top research universities in the nation, Columbus is a young, energetic city that commands your attention. You can fly from Washington, D.C., to Columbus on direct flights from Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Northern Virginia. It is less than 15 minutes from the capital to the airport on the Metro.


Columbus is a city of neighborhoods and covers a large area. The downtown, along the Scioto River, features the Ohio Capitol. The Columbus Art Museum and Topiary Gardens is several blocks to the east. Go west across the river and you come to the Scioto River Walk and the Center for Science and Industry. Ohio State University, with more than 57,000 students, is a prominent influence in the city. It is a center for performing and visual arts and brings in world-class talent throughout the year. The city has a vibrant nightlife with locals and students heading to Germantown and the Short North Arts District.

Hints and tips

When you fly from Washington, D.C., to Columbus, your journey ends at the Port Columbus International Airport (CMH), 10 minutes east of Columbus on Interstate 270. Special express bus service operates between the airport and Ohio State University. Fall brings football and cool, crisp days to Columbus with average temperatures in the high 60s. The Jazz and Rib Fest in July draws almost a million visitors.
