If you’re planning a trip from Toronto to Nova Scotia then Orbitz can offer you all the best deals on domestic flights to Halifax.
The most popular route to Nova Scotia is from Toronto Pearson to Halifax Stanfield International. There are more than 100 flights each week, and even more in the summer season.
Toronto Pearson is the biggest airport in Canada and one of the best-connected in North America. It handles almost 50 million passengers a year and more than 17 million of those are domestic.
Air Canada and WestJet fly direct to Halifax all year round, and Toronto is the main hub for both airlines.
You can also get a flight to Halifax, with a brief stop at Ottawa, from the much smaller Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, with Porter Airlines.
A direct flight from Toronto Pearson to Halifax takes just over two hours to cover the 800 miles between the two cities. Your plane heads east along the north shore of Lake Ontario and passes south of Montreal on the route towards Nova Scotia. It then flies across Vermont and Maine in the USA and passes over the Bay of Fundy before coming into land at Halifax Stanfield. Most flights are on Airbus A320 jet planes.
The return flight usually takes around half an hour longer because of the prevailing winds.
From Billy Bishop airport, the journey is longer – around three and a half hours with a 30-minute layover in Ottawa – and you will travel in a turboprop plane rather than a jet.
Whichever route you choose to take, flying is by far the quickest and easiest option to travel from Toronto to Halifax. Getting to Toronto Pearson International, located 14 miles northwest of downtown, is easy. There are trains, buses, cabs and plenty of parking. The airport has dozens of shops and restaurants.
Billy Bishop Airport is even more central, it’s on Toronto Island in Lake Ontario just south of the city.
Although the flight to Halifax is domestic you will need official ID to board the plane. You only need to check in 45 minutes before the flight is due to depart, but it’s best to get to the airport with plenty of time to spare.
Halifax Stanfield International handles more than four million passengers a year. It was opened in 1960 and was expanded in the 1990s.There are buses and car rental facilities at the airport, which is around 20 miles from downtown. It has a wealth of dining and shopping options and there is a visitor information center in the arrivals hall.
If you’re planning a vacation in Nova Scotia and want to explore different parts of the state, or are looking for alternative destinations in eastern Canada, there are other airports in the region, so why not try the following?
