Los Angeles is known for its abundant sunshine, relaxing beaches and opulent mansions. San Antonio is a bustling Texas town with Spanish flair. Whether you are traveling from Los Angeles to San Antonio for business or for pleasure, you can find rental car information and book your airline tickets through Orbitz.com.
Los Angeles, or L.A., is an amazing city full of glitz and glamour. Those flying to San Antonio will likely depart from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The airport is located off Sepulveda Blvd., near the Pacific coast. Most major airlines, including Southwest, Continental, American and Delta, offer flights in and out of LAX. Travelers can get to the airport by bus, shuttle, van, limo or taxi. The Metro bus fare is $1.60, and riders may need to switch buses. The LAX airport shuttle is the blue line, which runs 24 hours a day. Free shuttles are available for travel between terminals. Prime Time Shuttle and SuperShuttle are shared ride van companies that operate out of the airport and service all of Southern California. Fares start at $15 each way. Taxi fares vary, and there are more than 2,000 cabs that offer services to LAX. Be sure to choose one that has the official City of Los Angeles Taxicab seal.
The airport has 8,000 parking spaces in eight structures. Parking in the lots closest to the terminals costs $30 per day, and the economy lot offers discounted rates of $12 per day. The airport also offers a variety of dining options. Travelers can grab a cone from Haagen-Dazs, enjoy a hot dog from Pink's or view a game at Home Turf Sports Bar. LAX also has a selection of fast-food options, including McDonald's, Burger King and Panda Express.
San Antonio is located west of Houston, near the Gulf of Mexico. In the eighteenth century, Spanish missionaries came to the area and converted locals to Christianity. Five of those historic missions stand today. A visit to San Antonio would not be complete without a visit to the Alamo, which is one of the country's most iconic landmarks.
The San Antonio International Airport is located off the McAllister Freeway, and the smaller Twin-Oaks Airport is just a short drive north. Southwest, United, Interjet, ASA and Skywest all offer flights in and out of the San Antonio International Airport, which is the main airport for the area. The privately owned Twin-Oaks Airport has one runway and services personal planes. Those arriving in San Antonio can find ground transportation agents in front of the baggage claim areas of Terminal A and Terminal B. These agents wear red shirts and can provide useful information regarding transportation services and rates. Public buses can take travelers to the downtown area in 30 minutes for $1.10. Day passes cost $4.
San Antonio has a relatively mild climate. June and July are the hottest months, with high temperatures in the 90s Fahrenheit. January is the coldest month, with average highs in the low 60s. More than 4 inches of rain fall in May and June, making these the wettest months. Those who prefer mild temperatures should visit in April, May or October.
The San Antonio Zoo is a great place for visitors and families. The zoo is home to more than 8,000 animal species and is visited by more than a million people each year. Market Square is the largest Mexican shopping market in the United States. The area has numerous eateries, fountains, playgrounds and upscale shops. The Mitchell Lake Audubon Center is a large bird haven where travelers can see exotic species of birds. The cost is $2, and children under 5 are admitted free.
