Selected fares from Los Angeles to Honolulu

From Los Angeles to Honolulu

Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, takes up the majority of the southwest area on the island of Oahu. Shops, beaches, and a collection of historical and natural treasures keep tourists flooding the city each year. Orbitz.com can help you find affordable flights from Los Angeles to Honolulu, as well as lodging and entertainment.

Getting through Los Angeles Airport

Passengers of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) have more than 60 airlines to choose from, including American Airlines, United and Qantas. Located just 16 miles from downtown Los Angeles, the airport is easy to reach by public transportation, hired car or taxi. The FlyAway Bus, a public transportation option that serves travelers at LAX, costs just $7 for a one-way trip downtown. Taxis are less affordable, at up to $48 per ride.

Travelers parking at the airport can expect to spend $30 per day in the regular lots and $12 per day for economy service. If you drive an electric vehicle, you get 30 days of free parking and charge service.

From snacking on Hagen Daas to eating a simple sit-down meal at one of your favorite fast-food places, the airport has plenty of options for dining before you catch your flight. Visitors will find dozens of snack shops, coffee houses, counter-service cafes and full-service restaurants throughout the terminals and common areas of LAX.

Landing in Honolulu

Honolulu International Airport is the biggest airport on the Hawaii islands and is an international gateway. It regularly does business with airlines based in Europe, Canada and Japan. The astonishing natural wonders found on the islands, the crisp aquamarine waters and the vibrant culture and history found in Honolulu beckon to people from all over the world.

The Airport and Beyond

Eight car rental companies-including Budget, Enterprise and Avis-can be found on the airport grounds. In addition, the public city bus system takes travelers downtown for a fee of $2.50 and taxi rides cost approximately $30 one-way.

The tropical islands only have two seasons-wet and dry. Ironically, most people visit Honolulu during the most turbulent seasons, though the weather is usually much more preferable than back home. The summer and winter break seasons see the highest prices and biggest crowds; however, Japanese crowds flock to the popular destination at the end of April.

Because of the variety of land formations on the islands, climate can change significantly depending on where you are. The west and south ends of the islands are warm and dry compared to the east and north sides. Temperatures range from summer highs in the mid-80s to winter lows in the 70s. Nighttime temperatures rarely drop more than 10 degrees from daytime readings.

Visitors looking for fun in the sun should head to Waikiki Beach and the surrounding neighborhood in Honolulu. Those looking for more of a cultural experience should stop first at Iolani Palace, the previous home of Hawaiian royalty and a comprehensive museum of island history and tradition. Bishop Museum captures a glimpse of the many societies found across the Pacific. United States military history is rich here, too, with museums dedicated to Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona. Nature lovers will get their fill with trips to the Diamond Head crater, Hanauma Bay and Manoa Falls.

Returning Home to Los Angeles

Leaving a tropical paradise and heading back to the hectic life of LA can be a shock to the system. Remember that you can use Orbitz.com to find the best new deals from Los Angeles to Honolulu for your next trip. Start now and plan for your return to the beautiful island of Oahu.
