Leaving Las Vegas

When you leave Las Vegas, you’ll be flying out of McCarran International Airport, located three miles southeast of the Vegas strip. A taxi from the Strip to the airport will take about fifteen minutes and cost about $15. If you’re coming from downtown Las Vegas, expect the trip to cost approximately $20 and take roughly twenty-five minutes. Public bus 108 will cost you $2 and get you to the airport in about thirty minutes. If you’d like an affordable parking option, the airport offers surface parking for $10 per day.

Arriving in Salt Lake

Your flight to Salt Lake will land at Salt Lake International Airport, located six miles northwest of downtown. If you’re weighed down by bags and just want to get to your destination, a taxi will cost you about $20. Public transportation is available via UTA buses 550, 454, and 454. They’re located in the parking lot above the car rental area, and the fare will cost you $2.25 for a single trip, while a day pass is $5.50. Winter temperatures in Salt Lake average around 30°F, and snow usually arrives at the end of November and lasts through March. Salt Lake City is a skier’s mecca, so if skiing is your passion, winter is the time to go. Summer temperatures are hot, with average temperatures hovering in the seventies and frequently climbing much higher. There’s little humidity, so the heat is normally bearable. When you’re in town, check out the beautiful Red Butte Garden, which features almost 100 acres of trails, gardens, and natural walking paths. Bird lovers can check out the 130 species of birds at the Tracy Aviary, the oldest in the country.
