Traveling from Boston to Rome
For Boston residents who are looking for a vacation getaway to Italy, Rome offers architectural masterpieces, rich history, and religious fervor. You can find great deals on air travel from Boston to Rome on Orbitz.com.
Boston, Massachusetts
The largest city in Massachusetts is also one of the oldest cities in the United States and is full of history back to its founding in 1630. Travelers flying out of Boston depart from Logan International Airport.
Logan International Airport is located about 3 miles east of downtown Boston, making it easy for travelers to reach. Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority offers public transportation to the airport on the Blue Line subway and the free Silver Line bus service. You can also take a commuter ferry from the Fore River Shipyard to the airport, or you can simply drive your own vehicle. It takes less than 10 minutes to drive to the airport from downtown, and there is plenty of parking available for rates starting at $18 per day.
There are more than 20 airlines serving Logan International Airport, including United Airlines, American Airlines, and Air Canada. Alitalia and Delta Air Lines both offer nonstop service from Boston to Rome. While you are waiting to begin boarding, you can choose from the airport's many dining options, including coffee shops like Starbucks and Java Coast Café, fast-food chains, and full-service restaurants.
Rome, Italy
As the former capital of the Roman Empire, Rome is full of rich history and architectural beauty; but the busy city offers much more than just history for its visitors. The Colosseum, St. Peter's Basilica, and the Vatican Museums are just a few of the most popular things to do when visiting Rome.
Experience Rome
Visitors flying into Rome will fly into either Ciampino Airport or Fiuminicio International Airport, both of which are within a 30-minute drive of downtown Rome. Bus and taxi service is available from both airports to Rome, or you can reserve a rental car when you book your flight on Orbitz.com as a convenient way to travel around the area.
Rome has mild winters with average temperatures that remain above freezing even during the coldest months of the year, although there are usually a couple of snow flurries each year between December and February. The summers are warm and dry-from June through August, high temperatures are in the 80s, and lows stay above 70 degrees Fahrenheit. While the city has a history of closing down during the summer while city residents leave on holiday, most businesses now stay open all year for tourists. If you visit during the summer, be prepared for a city full of tourists and few locals.
The Trevi Fountain, Rome's most famous fountain, depicts the god Neptune's chariot being drawn by seahorses. St. Peter's Basilica is another famous tourist draw that stands as a symbol of Catholic religion, but make sure you dress conservatively to gain entrance. Also visit Campo de' Fiori, which is a former site for Roman executions but now serves as an open market and pub area.
Make Your Pilgrimage to Rome
With nonstop flights and many one-stop flights available from Boston to Rome each day, making a pilgrimage to Italy is easy. Find a flight to fit your budget and calendar on Orbitz.com, where you can book your airline tickets, hotel room, and rental vehicle all in one place.
