Do not even consider booking here. I prepaid for two rooms, upon checking in only one as available. I was told that I would receive a call when the second one was available. We went out and explored the city. I never received a call, when we went to the front desk to check in later I was told there were no rooms available. There were several people in the lobby also with paid reservations and no rooms. I was told that they would bring up a cot, it never happened. Followed up, never promised again, and showed. With no follow-up or explanation. We asked for additional towels (only two in the room) never got them, housekeeping was no where to be found. Unfortunately so in out party had to sleep on the floor for two nights. I was promised a refund and as of this point it has not been received.

Great location and decent rooms. I had a strange experience in that two days in to my four day stay management ( dressed in plain, casual clothes of shorts and tshirt) came to my door and told me I wasn’t supposed to be in my room; that my room was supposed to be vacant. I would have questioned wether or nor he was managements expect except that he looked up my info and that of my colleague. I told him it was the room I was given and he didn’t believe me until I showed him my key pocket where the wrote my room number. The whole scenario was just strange and a little off putting.

Excellent neighborhood within walking distance to the beach, park(s), excellent shops & restaurants. The hotel lobby & exterior were beautiful. Staff were friendly. Our room was very average & needed some work & beautification. The caulking in the bath/shower was chipping, tiny average artwork on very plain walls. A sad office chair. Our room really needed a confortable nice sitting chair. The only good places to sit to relax were on the bed or had to go down to the lobby or lounge for a confortable place to sit. Breakfast tables were sticky and uncleared everyday. We bussed a table to sit at for two breakfasts about 7 or 8 tables unbussed for the duration of our breakfasts. We did appreciate that breakfast was included. Also it was a bit odd & unfortunate that there is no food available whatsoever other than breakfast during breakfast houra not even at the lounge. Is that even legal to serve alcohol with zero food options? We had hoped to at least get an appetizer with our happy hour coctail. Not even a snack machine. Thats ok..we went & raided my adult sons fridge who lives a block over for snacks...haha! The hotel is nearby my son who just moved to Gold Coast so we will likely give it another shot & stay at the Ambassador again & hope that some of the things are worked out. Those are the pros & cons. Fingers crossed management reads this to make those few improvements. We look forward to coming back to the area.

The hotel needs to be updated: 1. The carpet in our room was worn and stained. 2. The bathroom was tiny, almost too small to be operational. 3. The bathroom floor was embarrassing. 4. The shower curtain was a foot short. 5. There were no refreshments for purchase in the fridge and no store in the lobby to buy snacks or drinks. 6. Breakfast needs to start at 6:30 am or 7:00am. 7:30 am is too late. 7. Several times I called the front desk or restaurant and nobody answered. 8. The hallways were dark, poorly lit and smelled. 9. Good location but I would not stay at this hotel again. Not trying to be mean, just honest.

Loved the location & ambience of the old hotel. However the bed was too low & not great sleeping, needs replacement. Plus bath tub is very unsafe with no grab bar & very slippery when wet without a flat spot to stand on while showering. The breakfast buffet was one of the best ever, highly recommend it

I booked and paid in full through Expedia for The Chicago Hotel Collection Ambassador Gold Coast, with no mention of any additional charges. The day before check-in, I received a message from the hotel confirming my reservation. However, on arrival after 24 hours of travel, I was told they could not find my booking. I was then informed that to be given a room, I had to pay mandatory daily charges totalling around US$650 - charges that were never disclosed during booking. I was told these were non-refundable, and I had no choice but to pay under duress during a major convention. It later became clear that the hotel may have cancelled my original Expedia reservation without telling me and created a new booking using my prepayment, then imposed their own terms and charges. This experience was extremely frustrating and stressful. The room also had a dirty bathmat on arrival, and housekeeping failed to clean the room on at least one day despite it being available. Expedia should not allow properties to impose undisclosed charges after payment. I would not have booked this hotel had these fees been known in advance. I’ve raised this as a formal complaint and urge Expedia to better protect travellers from practices like this.

The hotel is historic, anyone who researched Chicago will know the story about this place. Obviously it’s been modernized many times over since, but a charming place in a mostly residential neighborhood but close to shopping. Bed was comfortable, water pressure was good, elevators work well, but one sounds bad at the 4th-5th floor. Things I Didn’t like; No coffee before the restaurant opens at 7:00am Joining that membership thing seems a complete rip-off to me. Restaurant is only open for breakfast, no food after that But overall, I’m glad that we stayed here although I’m not so sure I would stay here again due to the membership thing mostly.

Difficult check in, average rooms

Multiple people were having issues checking in and the front desk told people they had no rooms left then proceeded to tell the next person they had rooms available. They charge a hotel fee of $80ish a night so factor that into your cost. Very generic rooms. Bed had a regular sheet with no fitted sheet. No coffee maker in the rooms. Room was very clean though.

Sink clogged, switch for light was broken, gross stain on carpet, walls are way too THIN. I could listen in on a conversation from room next door and arguing from a couple across the hall, not infront but at end of hall. Arguments from the street can be heard twice during my stay at the early hours of 4 AM even though window was closed.

Not a fan, the front desk was not well staffed, very rude in general, not at all helpful and even refused to help even after offering a large cash tip?!!?? Literally got the wrong room, it was not cleaned completely, there were even used items left behind from previous guests!!!refrigerator had partially eaten food inside, half used drinks, crumbs on floor, greasy/oily substance on tile floor in restroom… yuck. I was barefoot when I discovered the unknown gooooo with my toes and feet, slipping on floor. Streaky mirror with spit stains from toothpaste! Ewww. Will not be back EVERRR. Want a full refund!!
