This should be a 5 star review as this hotel is really great. Very clean, funky design, beautiful rooms, plenty of amenities, etc. The only thing that brings this to a 4 star review is the restaurant staff. We had two very bad service experiences in the restaurant during our stay. The staff was not rude but they were not trained well and really seemed lost with very ordinary service requests. The front desk however had great service and the hotel as a whole was really great. We will stay again and next time we will just eat somewhere else.
Room: Room was good size. Very clean. The kitchen was small but reasonably well appointed. Bathroom was not huge but certainly comfortable. I think a one to two week stay at Candlewood would be no problem. Ambiance: Not fancy. Lobby is small. Very functional. Candlewood gets extra stars because of the front desk staff. A helpful friendly crew that always had a sincere and warm welcome. Location: Not great. Just off the freeway. Sort of a commercial area. Not really much to see or anything within walking distance. But all of Tuscaloosa and the University is a 10-15 minute drive. Price: Very good value most of the time I suspect. We were in town for a football game so the rate was through the roof. But all the hotels in town raise their prices on for game weekends. I cannot fault them for that. I’d return to the Candlewood without question.
After leaving a disgusting motel close by, we found this location. Pet-friendly options are limited in this area and there is an additional $75 pet fee, but it was worth it for a clean room, friendly staff - especially Kim!! - and feeling safe. The rooms are very well laid out, the bathroom is roomy, and it smelled fresh and clean. Highly recommend!
Good quality pet-friendly hotel options are few and far between, which means evacuees from hurricanes sometimes can find themselves far away from home. That was the case with us when Hurricane Irma sent us on the road from our new home in SW Florida to Tuscaloosa and the Candlewood Suites. In the several days that we lived at Candlewood, we found it to be clean and accommodating. The bed was of standard sleep quality, and a small work area and lounger helped make the room more livable. The kitchenette was of good size and scope, supported by a lobby food canteen that was surprisingly well-stocked across all meals. Another pleasant surprise was a laundry that was free to guests, and that shared space with a basic fitness room. We were very impressed with the service attitude of the staff, who were dealing with a sold-out property and, as it turned out, a number of anxious hurricane exiles and their pets and belongings. Staff were welcoming and supportive, and Candace in particular shined in her warmth and empathy. We particularly appreciated Candace making a room change for us when our first night was marred by a poorly-sealed connecting door with late-night TV viewers in the next room. In fact, this facility and design fault (where TVs are inexplicably set right next to the connecting doors) is the only reason we can't rate our stay a "5". The hotel's general manager has obviously assembled a solid and welcoming staff. Indeed, we were impressed by the general friendliness of the people of Tuscaloosa. While we would have preferred other circumstances to make a maiden visit to the city, we agreed that we had picked a good town, and hotel, to weather the storm. We'd happily return to both.
Its a nice hotel the people are nice especially candace and they are pet freindly. Its not loud its really quiet and there is a pool out back that they share with the other hotel because thay are so nice if you were looking for a place to stay with your pets and family this would be the place
Stayed here for two nights and found the hotel very clean and quiet. I booked a studio which I expected to be a tiny room but was pleasantly surprised when I walked into a large, comfortable room with a kitchen. The staff is courteous and helpful. Excellent customer service from Raven at check in (thanks for your kindness) and Candace at checkout. Since my daughter will be attending school in Tuscaloosa, I will be sure to stay at Candlewood Suites whenever I return.
Book it as part of IHG rewards. Awesome place to stay. For a little over $100 our room was like a small apartment. Lots of bang for the buck. Staff was great, lived the DVD library and games to borrow. Definitely staying here again if I find myself in the area.
My family and I were traveling back home Texas and stopped for the night. The price is economical, the room was clean, water was hot and the AC blew cold. What else can you ask for at these prices! The young lady at the front desk was very friendly and when our neighbors children decided to stomp around at 11 pm, she had no problem giving them a call to quieten them down when we called to complain. The free washer and dryer was great since we had been on the road for a week and had a pile of dirty clothes. It is conveniently located right off the interstate and places to eat nearby.
I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and comfortable this hotel was. I have stayed at other Candlewood suites, but this was nicer. They even serve free pizza from a local pizza place on Tuesdays! I will definitely stay here again.
I have never gone to a hotel and not checked in. When we drove up there were a couple guys standing at the entrance smoking. The lobby stunk. I went in to check out the room and went back to the car. We decided to drive to Birmingham and ended up staying at a Drury Inn, Southeast and it was wonderful.
