When I booked the hotel through the unfortunate 1-800 outsourced number, I was told that we would have a complimentary 2 pm check out time, which I joyfully accepted. The night before we were to check out, I went to the front desk just to confirm it as we had made plans in the morning and planned to come back around one to freshen up before hitting the road. I was informed only the romantic package came with the late 2 pm check out and the best he could do for us was a 1 pm check out time. Obviously not pleased, but had to take it because the front desk clerk was obviously busy and was rushed to end our conversation. Food is a bit over priced for what you get. Restaurant staff is very pleasant and accommodating however.
Right on the Lake shore, the West Bay Beach resort is ideally located. There is an outdoor bar, patio, and restaurant overlooking the lake. Short 5-min/.2mile walk into the heart of downtown (using a small tunnel under the lakefront road). The hotel offers unique amenities: indoor and outdoor pools, hot tub, arcade room on the second floor, coffee lounge and fitness center. The rooms are clean and updated. A couple "gotchas" worth noting for my next stay: 1.) Poor view outside room windows for select rooms. Any odd numbered room ending in 33-41 (e.g. 233-241/333-341/etc.) will have an abysmal view of a tarred rooftop covering the center of the hotel and some dumpsters (picture attached). If you are hoping for a view of the lake, the pool or even just a parking lot - absolutely avoid those room numbers. My room window exterior also was covered with bird poop - not necessarily the hotels fault but did not add to the dumpster/tarred roof view. From what I noticed, the lower the last two digits of your room number - the closer you are to the lake (e.g. 201, 202, 203, etc.) 2.) Room windows are narrow and shades still do not provide anything close to full black out. 3.) Poor wifi at the ends of the building. My connection was so weak/slow I used my own data. 4.) My associate reported that the housekeeping staff disregarded his "do not disturb" sign twice throughout the day and knocked on his door. 5.) Standard Holiday Inn shower curtain issue. The interior liner inevitably gets so wet the exterior liner will absorb and ultimately spread water outside the tub. Recommend keeping both liners inside the tub if you do not want a river after your shower! Overall, I would return if I needed to be downtown, but only with the room knowledge I gained from my first stay.
The hotel was being renovated, and they couldn't get the temperature right in the meeting room. It was also off-season so food-service was spotty for our class participants. Still, the staff was friendly, and the views out across Lake Michigan couldn't be beat.
I definitely will go back to this hotel. I arrived late and had to leave early for business. My room 301 was spacious, beautiful and had a direct view of the water front. My check in was easy and quick. I enjoyed a starbucks coffee in the bistro (Starbucks gift cards NOT accepted!!) The room decor was wonderful and the bed/pillows were awesome. The work area had plenty of plugs and was well lit. The hotel makes me want to go back to Traverse City! I did not want to leave my room1
This past weekend I stayed at this hotel with 11 other women celebrating an elementary teacher wine weekend. We were all excited to get away and relax and enjoy a carefree weekend in Traverse City. We booked this hotel because on the surface it looks like it would be a perfect fit. But from the beginning we had a terrible time. It started with them cancelling one of our 3 rooms and arguing with us that it was our fault. What happened was that there were 3 car loads of us coming at different times. We had separate names on the rooms so we could check in as we got to town. Our first room checked in fine (though the front desk attendant was a bit dim). Our second room checked in and asked if they still wanted their 2 rooms. They explained that they should only have 1 as long as our other 2 rooms were checked in. The front desk assured us that the other 2 rooms were checked in so they gave away our second room. Our third car load came and was told that there was no room for them and that they couldn't help them. It took us 20 minutes to argue with the front desk that we should have a third room. We then also were told from another guest that their rate was only $107 while ours was $139. When we questioned it we were told that we weren't supposed to be told that information and they wouldn't lower our price. After the fiasco of checking in, we thought maybe the rest of the trip would be fine. We scheduled a shuttle to take us to dinner the second night and when we arrived we were told that we would have to wait because the shuttle was full of people who just got on. We explained that we had reservations and that we signed up in the lobby like we were supposed to. The shuttle driver then kicked off the people who were on (which we felt terrible but we had to make our dinner reservations) and the driver (Phil) was then unfriendly to us because of the issue. We then called the hotel later that night to pick us up at a local bar and they told us that their shuttle had broken down. We then had to find taxis which was fine but we didn't quite believe their story. Finally, on the day that we were checking out, I called down to see if they could send a cart up because we had lots of luggage and we were told that they had none and couldn't help us and hung up the phone. I decided to go down and pull the car up to discover that in fact there were 2 carts right next to the elevators. I understand if they were too busy to bring one up to us, but they could have made us aware that they were available in the lobby. Our group was very disappointed in our stay and will not be booking with this hotel again.
Needs some updating, and The person that checked me in was not too sharp but room was clean, on the water so views were excellent, hotel restaurant was very good for dinner (room service) and breakfast.
My husband and I went for a quick getaway and stayed at the West Bay Holiday Inn for our 1st Anniversary. They greeted us with smiles and were very accommodating. They gave us a beautiful room over looking the bay, had fresh chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of white wine waiting in our refrigerator at no additional cost. We were so pleased with the service! Great location to all the restaurants and shops!
I love this hotel!! Every time I come up to Traverse City I stay here. It is in the perfect location and is beautiful and very clean! I had my bachelorette party here this past weekend and my experience this time was no different. All 12 of the people in my party loved the hotel and we had so much fun dancing at the night club (DJ could have been a little better). Special shout out to our bartender Paul at the Day Club! We were lucky enough to meet him right when we got to the hotel on Friday and he was awesome! I feel like our experience would not have been so great had it not have been for him. Thank you, Paul!
Upon check in we were greeted by a very friendly clerk. The staff we encountered was very helpful throughout our stay. We had a very nice view overlooking the West Bay. The negative part of the room was it was over the night club, so Friday night all we heard was the thumping of the base until close to 1am. The room was average. The bathroom was very small and at times hard to maneuver. The rails on the bed stuck out and my husband hit it with his leg. He tried to see if it would push it in and he ended up cutting himself. I went down to the front desk and asked if they had any bandaides and explained what had happened. All they said was they were sorry to hear that. They did not offer to send anyone up to look at it. I was sorry we did not get to use the pool area as it did look very nice. We did order drinks and enjoyed the patio which I loved. I did par take in the yoga class Saturday morning (my first time) and enjoyed the instructor/class. We did have breakfast there which was good. A tad pricey for what we got. They charged us full price even though we did not get the meat with our eggs. We had been told they recently renovated. It must have been a number of years ago by the looks of things. The location was great. Not far from anything in town. They do offer a shuttle if you want to use. We did not, but I can see how during peck season this would be a great benefit to their guests.
This was our second year in a row - the Manager, Ryan, seated us early even though we were early for our reservation! Great Service, Incredible Food and just a perfect ambience for an Easter Sunday Brunch with the family! We'll be back next year!
