The Shibuya Dormy is a nice little hotel with a great communal bath facility, though I later found the nearby APA hotels had superior rooms for the price. It's a pretty quiet hotel, most of the guests seemed to be Japanese men in town for business purposes. The beer/whisky vending machine on the fourth floor was definitely a perk. Take advantage of the coin laundry machines and free detergent; many Japanese hotels only offer expensive overnight laundry service. (Those with coin machines always include a photo of them on major booking websites). Don't bother with the free ramen, many better food options are steps away.
This hotel was booked for me for a work trip, but it was in a great location and definitely walkable from Shibuya Station. Although it looks rough from the outside and down a scary little alley, the hotel itself is a little gem tucked away from the craziness of the area. The rooms are small, but perfect for those travelling alone. The private female only bath/onsen was a great treat. And I love the pillow wall, where you can select your favourite kind of pillow. Free wi fi is always something you want in a hotel stay and the front desk were so helpful! Would recommend!
I really like The Dormy! This was our first hotel when we arrived in Tokyo, and it isn't far from Shibuya Station, although, after traveling for 24 hours, we took a taxi for 600 yen. If you want to walk, it's about a ten minute walk to the station. The rooms are very small and there isn't much space to put your suitcase, and even less space to unpack and put your clothing - there isn't much cupboard space or shelving. However, the room is well-equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, very comfortable beds and pillows too. I really liked the sliding door between the hallway and the door to the room. The hotel was very quiet, but this added some extra sound insulation and made the room feel cosy. The room itself had lots of outlets for charging devices. There is a free shuttle to Shibuya Station, although no return shuttle. The staff were so lovely and helpful. They let us borrow umbrella's and helped us sort out the transfer of our luggage to the next hotel. I had a nice stay at this hotel and would stay again. Everything was so clean and the staff were so nice.
the Dormy In is very clean, quiet and has all the facilities I was looking for. I love that they have a pillow room where you can pick a pillow of interest and they have vending machines that are well kept/placed throughout the hotel.
this is basic Dormy Inn--clean, small rooms, nothing fancy, decent location half way between Shibuyu and Harajuku stations, close to Cat and Otamosendo Street. More like a college dorm than a fancy hotel, but if you're just looking for a good night sleep and no concierge, this will do fine. Plus, on the floor with the spa there is a free choice of pillow types. First I've seen of this great idea. No longer can anyone complain the pillow was too this or that, although a word from the otherwise efficient staff about this feature might be useful. I gave three stars not that there was anything wrong with the hotel; it excels at its niche. It's just like a five star with concierge, English fluency, swimming pool, real onset with natural mineral water, etc. Half the rooms face the train tracks, which I suspect can be noisy although I was on the other side so I'm not sure. Only negative is that spa area smelled like mold or dirty socks or something mildly unpleasant. Might have been transitory; might have been why they put a dozen or more whole oranges in the hot bath.
I stayed at the Dormy Inn for three nights when I first arrived in Japan. Getting to the hotel from Shibuya station is very easy, as it's only a 10 minute walk. The hotel is ideally situated between Shibuya and Harajuku, meaning that there is a lot to see and do within a very short walking distance of the hotel. Additionally, being so close to Shibuya station means that it's very well connected to the rest of Tokyo. I stayed in a single room which was compact but very comfortable. What the room doesn't have in space it more than makes up for in comfort, as the bed and bedding is of good quality. Additionally, there is a pillow library upstairs so you can select what kind of pillow you'd like to use, if the room ones don't suit. I had a huge suitcase with me and was able to fit it in the wardrobe space, so I didn't feel like there wasn't enough room. Lounge wear and ample toiletries were provided so I didn't need to use my own. All the water in the hotel is softened so the shower water leaves your skin very soft. The onsen on the top floor is by far the best feature of this hotel. All three times I used the women's onsen, it was completely empty. The facilities are excellent, as the onsen itself is very big, there is a sauna and cold pool, there are lockers for your belongings and many toiletries to use. After a long day walking around Tokyo it was the perfect place to relax! Service in the hotel was very good as the staff are incredibly helpful. They organised the Takkubin to ship my luggage to my next hotel in Kyoto and were always very friendly and approachable. I would definitely stay in the Dormy Inn Premium Shibuya Jingumae again.
As others have said, great location, and good breakfast. Rooms are small but super clean. The spa was a great bonus, I used this instead of my room shower. Wifi was strong. The staff were helpful throughout my stay.
Positives: Fantastic breakfast buffet with Japanese and Western dishes. A short walk to the Shibuya metro station. Many good restaurants near-by. A modern bathroom with a powerful shower. Free shuttle to the metro station. Lots to do within walking distance. Overall, the staff was nice and helpful. Less Positive. Hard to find the first time as the hotel is tucked down an alley. Small rooms with tired furniture and carpet. In our queen room, my husband had to crawl over me to get out of the bed. Our room looked out on the rail lines but it was not too noisy (surprisingly). The check-in staff does not tell you that if you want better pillows, you have to go to the second floor and get them.
We stayed here for two nights in a Hollywood Twin room. We chose the hotel on location and it was great for access to rail and metro. The space was not as tight as other twin rooms in Japan and we appreciated the phone charger adapter provided. Definitely nice and clean with storage niches, slippers, and bath robes for the spa. But there was only one towel rail :-( Our biggest problem was the sensor light in the lobby area designed to light your way to the bathroom at night. It shows through a slit in the door and comes on and off all night with the slightest movement. Take some blue tac and a couple of sheets of paper to block it out! The sound insulation from the adjacent rail way was very effective.
Good location. My family had two rooms - one was very small and was a special rate. The non-special rate room was more spacious. We loved the location and evening ramen. Free shuttle to JR station was also handy when we departed with luggage. Helpful staff.
