This is an older hotel, but it is fine for the night. They are currently remodeling, so some of the rooms are updated. My room was not an updated one, but my students had gorgeous rooms. The pool was cold, so none of my students swam.
The room I stayed in was lackluster. It was small, cramped, next to a busy street with road noise during rush hours. It didn't have a refrigerator, or microwave. WIFI was good and strong, TV had multiple channels, with a hand full in English as well as HBO. It had two twin beds, which were not too comfortable. That being said. This hotel is very nice. The layout of the hotel is very inviting. The lobby area is open to the street, so a constant breeze comes through which is pleasant for the seating area. There is a pool located in the center of the hotel that is also very nice and inviting for swimming, or just sitting around and relaxing. A very expansive breakfast buffet was available each morning that was included with the room. It featured their signature gallo pinto, as well as fruits and eggs, toast, etc.. The location is very good. It is within walking distance of many restaurants, the downtown area and Sabana Park. Renovation is underway, so improvements are being made to the rooms. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others. Price was competitive compared to other hotels in the area, given San Jose is not a cheap place.
Adjusting one's expectations for Costa Rica, one could say that the Hotel Autentico is very good. However, we got stuck in a room next to a very noisy exhaust fan. So, I didn't sleep all that well. Nevertheless, the room was clean, the beds comfortable and the shower was hot. The breakfast buffet was also very good.
the hotel is a bit older - real key to open door - but well maintained and public areas immaculate. Pool is nice. Breakfast had a nice selection. Staff very helpful and attentive. Lots of hot water in showers.
The location is great and the hotel has a free parking lot. You can walk to Parc Sabana and to restaurants and even city center. Rooms are fine - decent size and the free breakfast is ok. The pool has apparently been closed forever, not sure why. Also, rooms facing the pool / restaurant area are noisy when a function is in progress. The staff is generally responsive, except when you have a maintenance problem.
We used this hotel both coming to and flying out from Costa Rica Starting with the positive, the breakfast is great and restaurant staff friendly and helpful The rooms are old and not maintained basically worn down. Hotel staff is not doing much to better the situation either It looks like they are renovating some rooms but I’m sure you can find better quality hotels for the price you pay here The only reason for a 2 is the breakfast
A good hotel, which I certainly recommend if you want a place near the airport, but still in close proximity with the city center of San Jose and local dining choices, such as high-rated Machu Pichu just a few block away. The rooms are decent, always clean, and the front desk is helpful if you have any questions. The morning buffet is wonderfully rich in local specialities and fruits, which you can enjoy in the garden at the pool or in the small restaurant.
Stayed 2 only between arrival in SJO and onward travel. + (mildly) helpful staff + fairly clean and spacious room - pool closed (a reason we gave chosen the hotel for to relax with family after a city tour) - our room smelled - lights in room far too dimmed/dark to e.g. play or read - rather noisy with people holding a party in the lower floor
The location is excellent in the middle of downtown San Jose. It has a big parking lot for your rent a car which is a big plus and hard to be find. The rooms are very quiet overlooking the pool and the garden. Nevertheless the pool is being renovated right now. The restaurant serves good food at a good price and the buffet for breakfast has a lot of choices.
We stayed here for one night before starting our adventure elsewhere in Costa Rica. The room we stayed in was quite outdated and could do with modernisation. The shower door didn’t work very well and kept coming off of its run. The bathroom was unclean and there were marks on the floor and on the bathroom mirror. Our room was facing the road which meant we could hear traffic all through the night, it was also on the ground floor so we could hear people walking by and the general hustle and bustle from the the main reception. The redeeming factor was the breakfast which was included in our stay and was nice.
