Casa Santa Lucía

The place to stay at when in SCLC

This is a gem of place in a town that is quaint and relaxing. The staff is very attentive and the complimentary breakfast has some great Mexican dishes. They will also help you organize, pay for and plan excursions around the area that includes waterfalls, Guatemala, canyon rides and many other outdoor activities. There are only six rooms so it feels like a bed and breakfast yet there is privacy for every room. There is no better place to arrive to after a long day of sightseeing than this hotel. We stayed at the hotel since we were celebrating my wife's birthday and once the staff found out about this they offered to make the day special so on the first day there they waited after we left the room to see the town and they decorated it with festive ornaments. They also had fresh flowers and a tres leches cake which made it all that much more special. Every inch of the common spaces and rooms had beautiful and unique Mexican artwork, decorations, and textiles. They provided laundry service and there was ample space to store belongings and extra bedding and a space heater when it got chilly at night. We highly recommend the hotel for all its amenities, staff and comfort.

Casa Mexicana Hotel

Beautiful historic building, green inner court

Perfect location for exploring the very walkable historic district and its many shops, restaurants and bars, yet when you step into the green inner courtyard it's like coming into a calm oasis from which the rooms accessed. (This is the hotel's second building across the street from the lobby main entrance). The staff was exceptionally wonderful, many of them multilingual and even studying my native German, and at night one employee would stay up in the courtyard despite the December cold to guard and help with the heavy wooden door, so I felt very safe there as a female traveling by myself. The entire area felt safe even late at night, and I returned on foot at 2:30am one night after a performance of one of my favorite bands at the nearby Cafe Bar Revolucion. The proximity to that bar was the reason for my choice of hotel, but the location felt safe enough to walk even longer distances at night. The breakfast at the hotel is excellent, and there is also a great little coffee shop next door. At night I turned on the little space heater in the room just for a short while before going to bed, worked fine. Next time I might ask for an upstairs room to have more daylight.

Hotel Mision Grand San Cristobal de Las Casas

Very nice ambiance, close to restaurants and shops

Great service, beautiful surroundings, attentive staff, and restaurant. Depending on location of your room you may experience noise at night, but this is par for the course in any hotel in this area! There is also free parking available if you have a car. The beds were firm and bedding clean and ample. The staff were very accommodating as well. There is an excellent taco shop right across the street, which is to die for! There is fresh brewd coffee every morning too.
