Hilton Garden Inn Tuxtla Gutierrez

Great for a family retreat!

We spent a night at the Hilton Garden Inn Tuxtla with the family. The room was very comfortable, clean and convenient, we did not have time to enjoy the pool or other public areas, but it seems in good conditions. In general the hotel staff was very friendly, but the ladies at the front desk are very rude and hold this bad attitude at all time. Hopefully the Manager can take a note on this and have a word with them so they can be more service oriented.

City Express Tuxtla Gutierrez

Nice, basic hotel

City Express is an economy hotel chain in Mexico. Its good enough for business travelers or tourist that do not neeed too much services or amenities. This one in Tuxtla Gutierrez is in a highway although not too far from a commercial center and other services like restaurants, stores, etc. The only thing is that you need to take a taxi to go and get back. Normally a taxi charge 50 - 80 Mexican pesos ($4-6 USD) depending on the distance.

Holiday Inn Tuxtla Gutierrez

Holiday Inn Tuxtla

Very clean, modern hotel. Staff was hardworking and helpful. Most speak very little English, but were prepared to try and were patient with our even less proficient Spanish. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Beautiful pool and courtyard, really not exposed to the noise and chaos of the street. We needed a taxi at 4:00 am--they arranged for the hotel's driver to take us.

Casa Mexicana Hotel

Beautiful historic building, green inner court

Perfect location for exploring the very walkable historic district and its many shops, restaurants and bars, yet when you step into the green inner courtyard it's like coming into a calm oasis from which the rooms accessed. (This is the hotel's second building across the street from the lobby main entrance). The staff was exceptionally wonderful, many of them multilingual and even studying my native German, and at night one employee would stay up in the courtyard despite the December cold to guard and help with the heavy wooden door, so I felt very safe there as a female traveling by myself. The entire area felt safe even late at night, and I returned on foot at 2:30am one night after a performance of one of my favorite bands at the nearby Cafe Bar Revolucion. The proximity to that bar was the reason for my choice of hotel, but the location felt safe enough to walk even longer distances at night. The breakfast at the hotel is excellent, and there is also a great little coffee shop next door. At night I turned on the little space heater in the room just for a short while before going to bed, worked fine. Next time I might ask for an upstairs room to have more daylight.
