Stayed 7 days, fantastic for all-inclusive! Clean, food is good, always can find something we liked. Way better than cruise line food. Staff is outstanding, especially Louis at the bell station, went way out of his way to make our trip special. Am planning a return trip with friends

It is fairly hard to complain about the RIU palace. Rooms are clean and well appointed. The hotel was fairly busy when we were there but you could hear a pin drop after 10:00 p.m. The staff are very polite and are good at their jobs. Like others have said, the beaches are not white sand and the water is murky from the silt. That said, they are very safe for swimming, the water is about perfect temperature and, at certain times, there are decent enough waves for some body surfing (at the neighboring RIU Guanacaste). The food was like many 4-5 star resorts. Some stuff is really good, other stuff is just ok. There isn't a reservation system for the a la carte restaurants. We found that if you were at most restaurants within 30 minutes of their opening, you would be ok. Otherwise, enjoy the buffet. The only downsides we experienced were that the maids didn't leave soap when we ran out and we were kicked out of a restaurant at the RIU Guanacaste after seating. Apparently, while Palace guests can access the facilities at the Guanacaste, that doesn't include evening meals. But, whatever.

This was my first experience with an all-inclusive and my first time to Costa Rica. Neither disappointed. I couldn't believe that we arrived two days after Tropical Storm Nate and how much of the country and roads were back open for business. The food was excellent, the servers were polite (although could have been quicker at the poolside areas), their partner companies were great. Renting a car was great. I was afraid from some stories that the roads would be really horrible. Sure they are two lanes and had some potholes the closer you got to the resort (most likely from the Tropical Storm), but they are all paved and easily navigated. We didn't drive around much, but it was nice to have the freedom when we did. The only downside here was the "Resort Credits" that Orbitz advertised. Our room supposedly came with $900 in Resort Credits which is why I booked through Orbitz. When we arrived, we found that it was really just a bunch of coupons for things we may or may not do. $100 off of a wedding? Who comes that far and then decides "Hey, here's a coupon, let's get married!"

Pretty much everything about the stay was good, no complaints for food, bars, pool, staff or reception The 1 main down grade for facilities: 1 blight was they had the wrong plugs (Kohler) for the sinks (American standard) so they were not actuated by the plug puller. This caused sinks to not drain sometimes which then ended up being a roundabout of issues with us, cleaning staff and maintenance. We'd call maintenance and they would just manually crack open to drain, cleaning staff would knock it back in while cleaning, we'd remove it completely, cleaning staff would put it back in, maintenance would crack it open etc. etc. Yes a bit of a petty annoyance but someone should take responsibility and fix this issue long term if you are saying it is a luxury room, not good enough.

My husband and I were there for our honeymoon. Overall the staff made the experience great, upon arrive the bellman was awesome he welcome us and told us all about the hotel I think his name was Stephen. The check in agent was already nice,Michelle or Melissa. The pool was great and Johann was a delight. He spoke each time he saw us, he went out his way to make us comfortable. You should look into enclosing papagayo for dinner we were sweating having dinner, lobster and steak was yummy. The food was great lots to choose from. The room did not feel clean, the bed look great but the additional decorative items on the bed should be cleaned. The floor was sticky I did not take my slippers off when I was in the room. I work in the same industry so I did not have service while I was there to make it easier on the room attendant I only called for towels. Wash cloth etc... the vegas show was a pleasant surprise we loved it. Spa service was great, Monica my therapist was so sweet, we had a couple massage. We will definitely recommend the Hotel to friends and family only need miner tweaks. Thank you Mr. & Mrs. Small

Very nice staff, lots to do. Really enjoyed the trip

First RIU experience and it was AMAZING! everything Included, food was great! Staff is great! Always at your service and very friendly people. Staff speaks English and Spanish. Food was amazing! There was variety, there was Costa Rican typical food, snack always available. I would do it all over again! Room service available 24/7, mini bar included. AMAZING! only thing that wasn't good as expected was the "club/discoteca" but Costa Rica is not the place to party and go crazy, it's PURA VIDA=PURE LIFE !

Good resort with 4 pools, plenty of chairs and a wide beach area. Food selections could please everyone in your group. Staff was, by far, incredibly helpful and courteous. Only complaint would be just 4 wine selections...two red, two white.

Pleasant, relaxing, great get away! Right next to the beach, with plenty of activities.

Overall experience was very good. Enjoyed our stay very much. Staff was very accommodating. Pool bartenders were great, especially Alfonso. Our cleaning lady, Liley, was awesome. Always left us a surprise in the room, kissing swans, flower basket made out of towels. Very welcoming! Entertainment crew did a fabulous job with the evening shows. Waiters and waitresses were great, especially Ingrid at the Krystal restaurant. We had a gluten traveler and they accommodated with no problem. The buffet restaurant was very good and had a large variety of foods to choose from. Staff efficient. My only complaint was the process for the specialty restaurants. They provide two sittings but did not accept reservations. It was first come first serve. Once the first sitting was full, they issue a beeper. We really enjoyed the trip and would definitely return. Highly recommend.

Loved the hotel and especially the staff! Food was great and we loved Zulieth! She went above to ensure we had everything we needed! Ramon the manager was excellent with my changes! Our room was immaculate every day and they could not have been nicer! Pool was beautiful as were the grounds! Was not a fan of the beach sand but appreciated the beauty of this country!

This wasn't for me. It was an all-inclusive and had wonderful pools, but the rooms themselves were very strange. There was a bathtub in the middle of the room without a door separating it from the beds - something that I couldn't handle. I felt like I needed to wear flip flops inside the room the entire time. I just wasn't jazzed about it. The best part was being able to use the pools at the Riu Guanacaste next door, as I felt their facilities were so much nicer.

Overall, we had a good experience in this hotel. I would recommend it for the right price. However, it's not excellent. Positives: food and drink quality, entertainment, bar, and restaurant staff, pool area. Needs work: Very slow restaurant service (our food took 50 minutes to arrive), furniture in rooms is very old, rooms need remodeling, reception staff are not very friendly (some are borderline rude), night shows are good but a bit repetitive. Towel system: They have a very annoying pool/beach towel system, where you have to make sure you do not misplace your towel or you pay $20 for it. I had never seen this before and found it very frustrating, especially in an all inclusive hotel, where the point is that you do not worry about little things like this.

My family and I enjoyed the attention, kindness, smiles of resort staff. The restaurants, pool, rooms were very cleaned. If you are traveling with family, you bet this is the place to visit. If you are traveling as explorer, then you will find more than 500 k species to see plus the mountains, views of towns and volcanos. Tons of activities to do, including the best reefs in the planet.

We stayed at the riu palace the first week of august 2016. It was facing the jungle and it was beatiful. The pool bar was the best, the guys knew us by middle of the week and had drinks waiting for us, we tipped them a little as well, just common courtesy to do so. The staff was great, drinks were grwat, pool area was clean. The beach right at the end of the resort was the best! Very nice. We also got massages at the beach, which was amazing. Fed monkeys near the resort anf walked the beach everyday. It was a vrry romantic honeymoon. The only thing that needs work would be the themed restaurants, food service, and the after hours snacks, they really were not all that. The buffet was the best. Also, the shower is quite slippery, so be careful in there. I fell very hard on areas without the mat. I would definitely go back! I didnt even get any mosquito bites!

first time in Costa Rica Riu palace. I have to say the experience was very unpleasant. The front desk staffs are rude and slow. It seems like we don't exist whe we ask for something. However, there is only one guy out of 7 different staffs we dealt with, his name is Daniel, very helpful and seems like he knows answer to your questions. Housekeeping is not up to par compares to other resorts I stayed at. We have to ask for shampoo on a daily basis and it seems like we have to beg for it.

Access to restaurants very complicated and as a result you eat at same buffet every day. If you like that go and enjoy.

The hotel staff was amazing, from the time we checked in until we left. My daughter has a food allergy and I was concerned about what she could eat. I went to the front desk about it, and they printed out a special letter that we showed to each specialty restaurant we attended. Each chef made her a special gluten-free meal that was beautiful and that she loved! There was excellent food at each restaurant, including the buffet Arenal. The servers were friendly and attentive. The front desk staff helped answer our questions each day, directing us when we had specific needs. The lunch by the pool was fresh and delicious every day (bbq'd ribs, chicken, pork, beans & rice). We had a wonderful experience and would recommend the Riu Palace. Special staff: Helario, Kenneth, Max, Edgar, Sandoval, & especially Sabrina!

Excellent experience the only issue would be the spotty wifi

Playa Matapalo- Sardinal El Ocotal Guanacaste
