I booked a room at the Riu from July 15th - 22nd for my wife’s 50th birthday. When we arrived we found some of the front desk staff to be a bit rude. The place looked nice although they had leaks everywhere. Our room on the 15th floor was nice. The food was better than expected. The restaurants were nice and the beach was awesome. Most of the staff were rude and just didn’t care. Like most people there, we were on vacation. My wife and I work very hard and one of the things we looked forward to was sleeping in until we felt like getting up. That’s what we did for Sun, Mon and Tues, but at 8:15 on Wed morning, it sounded like a jackhammer was being used on our celling. We got up because no one could sleep through that. We went down and complained to the front desk. They said it’s like that all over the hotel and that they were closing the hotel on Monday until sometime in November. Apparently some people were told that the hotel would be under construction but it would start two weeks after they closed. They also shut the water off for 8 hrs one day. My wife and I would have NEVER booked a room if we knew we would be woken up at 8:00. That was unacceptable in so many ways. Also, as many others have said, The A/C in the room was either on and way too cold or off and way too hot. I think the hotel should be responsible for the last four days of our vacation. I would hope this Riu hotel is not indicative of every Riu property, if so, we will book our stays elsewhere.

Well I went July 16-21. I was not aware hotel was under construction at this time. It was noisy at times as well as water leaks. Every night one of the restaurants were closed. I also had a injured knee on this trip. I asked at the desk for a ice pack and they told me I would have to go into town to a cvs. No nurse or medical personal on staff. On the last day we had no water in our room which meant no toilet flushing etc. I would have appreciated knowing the hotel was closing for 3 months and was being worked on I will say food was great. Staff was pleasant. I would go back after renovations are complete due to price and location. I feel some type of compensation should have been made to vacationers this week

Worse experience, hotel was leaking in lobby and hallways. Awful smell in hotel. Had to change room because of leaks, power kept shutting off, water was turned off in hotel for several hours.

I would not recommend this hotel. In poor condition.Food was good and for the most part staff was nice. The hotel needs a lot of work

Hotel rooms need to be updated and have mold remediation done. Beach, food and staff were good. I would not say here again. Not what I expected staying at a rui. Our first room was filled with black mold and we had to switch rooms, went from a Jr. Suite to a standard room with less mold.

My wife and I went to celebrate our Honeymoon and 50th birthdays. The hotel is in a nice location and the area is beautiful. The check-in staff was rude, but overall the staff was fairly pleasant. The room was horrendous and should not have been rented out. I travel frequently for vacation and typically stay at nice hotels. RIU Palace is usually a nice place to stay, but not in this case. For the money, I can think of so many better places that I have stayed in the Caribbean. This room had sticky and smelly carpet, broken dresser and everything was humid and musty. We signed for an "Ocean View" and while we could see a tiny view of the ocean, we primarily viewed the HVAC units on the roof. The staff at RIU said we purchased a "partial" ocean view. The room including the bathroom was dated and worn. The pool was nothing special and the beach was dirty with cigarette butts all over in the sand. I read these reviews and usually ignore them thinking they are coming form "uppity" people who like to whine. This hotel certainly put a damper on our celebration of many great things happening in our lives. In this case, I highly recommend you avoid this hotel. You can do much better at other hotels. Very very few people that we talked to at the hotel were happy with the rooms.

Great hotel. Would love to go again. You should look it up

Staff made up for it, dining bartenders cleaning front desk and entertainment all were wonderful and cared .... very different than going to Cancun ... more relaxing and less stress about tipping every 5 minutes

Great vacation at the Riu! Perfect location to everything on Paradise Island! Beaches were Beautiful! All staff were great!Keno the bartender was Awesome!!Food was excellent! We cannot wait to go back!!

Water and beach were accessible. Great location to connect with Atlantis resort

Celebrated friend's birthday at Riu Had a great time Loved the beautiful view from our balcony and the great restaurants along with the convenience of casino being a short walk next door $4 taxi ride to Straw Market downtown and severel small shoppes across the street made it the perfect location for us

Great view of the ocean, food was amazing. The drinks were strong and good.

Our experience at the Riu was HORRIBLE. There were no signs posted anywhere near the restaurant or in the hotel stating that men could not wear a tank top to dinner, which was a buffet-style dinner, nothing fancy at all. As soon as my husband walked in the door, the restaurant manager rudely told him he had to leave and return with a shirt with sleeves. This was embarrassing for both of us, and we did not return that evening. We ordered room service which was a big joke. McDonald's would have been better. The chicken was very dry, the bread on the sandwich was tough and chewy. The chips were old and stale. Our room temperature felt like being in a freezer. I slept with pants, shorts over the pants, 2 tank tops, socks, and a jacket the first night. We returned for dinner the next evening with my husband wearing an appropriate shirt. This time as soon as he reached the door, the same manager met him and again rudely yelled in front of the customers that he had to leave. It turns out he had a bit of sand on his leg. We had just been to the beach. We were again asked to leave. The fridge in our room was supposed to be stocked with beer, water, and soda on a daily basis. The last 4 days we were there our fridge was bare. We could not make coffee because we had no water. We called the front desk MULTIPLE times to ask that it be stocked and were told it would be. This never happened. If you want an enjoyable vacation with great service, DO NOT STAY HERE.

This Riu has 15 floors and 3 elevators. Never had to wait long. Only 1 outside pool with a bar, but never overcrowded. Great food in the gourmet restaurants and the daily buffet. Staff was friendly and always helpful. We had some trouble with our in-room safe, and they serviced it immediately. They had to replace the circuit board. Entertainment was okay. Not nearly as great as the entertainment at the Riu in Negril, Jamaica.

Nice hotel, great location with incredible food. It was very windy during our stay but due to location we were able to enjoy Atlantis, Potters Cay and take water taxi to Nassau sights. It was absolutely lovely!

I liked this place, but I thought the Riu in Punta Cana was better. The staff was nice and friendly, and the rooms were okay, although on the last day, the noise from the air conditioner in our room was pretty bad. The food is what you would expect in general. There were some really good dishes, but some stinkers as well.

Hotel fine, not great but price is right and if you like the beach this is a great location.

Orbitz did not want to let me post my honest opinion they revised my comments more than 5 times. Just know I would not stay at this hotel ever and the service sucked!!' The water in the room stopped working and there are so many restrictions that they don't tell you before you get there.. so no waste your time!!

We had a very nice time have no complaints about anything

The hotel is in a good location in paradise island. has good beach. Food was very good. As usual got a corner room when booked thru orbitz facing the parking lot. Otherwise very good stay.
