Late-night party kept us awake until 2 a.m. when I finally called the front desk. It took 2 calls and another hour before the noise quieted enough that we could sleep. Then at 4 a.m. there was another couple that sat outside their room at a table, wrapped in blankets, and between a bottle of wine talked about solving the world’s problems. The walls are so thin that normal conversations carry forever. Last time for us to stay there!

I booked this hotel for the heated pool and the continental breakfast and was hugely disappointed. When we arrived the kids ran to the pool only to find it was freezing cold and it was disgusting all around the pool. Clumps of hair on the deck, cracked and rotting tiles, dirt and filth everywhere...I refused to let my kids swim. The breakfast was also a huge disappointment. There was nothing that had any nutritional value except the fruit which was always all gone. Frozen waffles, cheap muffins and pastries, only white bread for toast. I would have appreciated some bagels, whole wheat toast, oatmeal, better cereal options, orange juice...but none of that was available. We stayed downstairs and the floors above us were so creaky that no one got any sleep. It felt like we were staying in a 100 year old house with elephants upstairs. It was horrible.

Not a great area of town, far from the attractions in Monterey. Very sketchy clientele, could smell the cigarette smoke from the other room in the morning. Very loud, mattresses were so squeaky that the whole family woke up. Would never stay here again.

TV could’ve been a little bit bigger we had the big room with the fridge but no table and a tiny little tv I don’t even think it was a 32 inch TV didn’t get hardly any channels otherwise I was very satisfied

The location and room are good. However, there's a nightclub next door that plays loud music late into the night. I was on the wrong side of the motel. Staff should have known that the other side was less noisy. The housekeeping staff stole my cell phone charger.

This hotel is in a great location, the pool was nice to unwind and the room was elegant and cozy. My main concern during my stay was the bed sheets werent the cleanest and the morning breakfast was a major let down, nothing more than froze waffles and hard boiled eggs.

But loud, eh? But hey, I got a refund. The noise was so bad that you have to ask why the local chamber of commerce allows this.

Clean room. Walls are paper thin because I could hear the entire conversation the people next door were having at night.

As an avid cross-country road-tripping driver for one month of every year, I’ve stayed in many motels coast to coast. Some are great, many are lackluster. The El Castell was an ideal place in my book. My room was near the check-in (opposite side of where the late-night taqueria is located). Newly-renovated and clean with wood floors, it was great to rest in on a Friday night from a long drive. Parking was easy in a spot a few doors down from my door. The room had Keurig coffee, a microwave, fridge & even offered make-up removing wipes! The continental breakfast had cereal, hot waffles, tea, coffee & pastries. I read some negative reviews of the breakfast and have no clue what a motel guest would be expecting to top this. I got to breakfast at 8:30am, got my sustenance and returned to the room. El Castell had a better breakfast than most places I have stayed at. I have this place bookmarked to stay at again in the Monterey area. I’m not a person who stays at a motel for romantic getaways and I don’t have children. I strive to find motels where I can get a good night’s rest in a bedbug-free room with a microwave for my Starbucks and fridge for my pizza leftovers. If you are a similar sort of traveler, then this place is for you.

The covered pool is not an "indoor" pool. Airport nearby is noisy. Should have cancelled and stayed elsewhere.

Very good quality for the price. Rooms are small, but in good condition and clean. Breakfast is good. That's all I have to say really, but Orbitz doesn't allow me to post such a short review.

Promised a portable third bed but made a excuse that was a illegal fie hazard, which is not true. Had to rent a two bedroom for more money.

Unfortunately we were at the side that club Gemini is on. Very loud. Also, the seat on the toilet was broken. Would come back, but want to be on the other side of the building

The room was small and reasonably clean. There was no hot water available at the sink, the TV didn't work nor did the room phone.

The room was clean and comfortable although a little small. Water pressure in the sink was poor. The breakfast was minimal and the room was small. With all of the knit-picking, I would not hesitate to stay again.

The price wasn't bad but the room was very small. There were other features that made our stay worse such as the bad plumbing, the air conditioning hardly worked, there were noisy people outside our hotel and though they say the walls are soundproof they really aren't. The only plus about our trip was the time we spent outside of the hotel, not inside.

Love everything about this motel. Great location and very nice staff. Enjoyed swimming in the pool that night. They generously offered 3 extra towels for us. Breakfast was okay. Should have gone for breakfast earlier to beat most of people. Apprarently 8AM is their rush hour.

I will not be staying there again. Called the front desk, could not get them to quiet the room next to us. The carpet made your white socks brown. In the morning I could smell marijuana from the next room.

They were located close enough to everything that didn't notice travel time. I rated it five because for the price versus the quality. You're paying a quite a bit less for a hotel located right next to Monterey. Clean, close to creature comforts, and friendly staff!

It is clean and comfortable. The only problem is the AC/heating system is very noisy.
