This hotel is historic so the rooms are very small. However there’s a lot of character and it’s very close to everything
We stayed at The Monterey Hotel for one night and appreciated it’s convenient location to the water, restaurants and shops. The room was clean and comfortable and had a microwave, coffee maker, and a refrigerator. And coffee, apples and power bars were available in the lobby. Overall we were quite pleased.
We loved the historic beauty of this property. We loved walking out either door and immediately seeing dining options. The coffee shop downstairs, Plumes, has so many delicious offerings. Our room was quiet, clean, and had a nice window that opened to let in the fresh cool air. The bed was deluxe: very comfortable with fresh crisp linens. Bathroom was great, appreciated the hair dryer. Though our stay was short, we thoroughly enjoyed our two nights at the Monterey Hotel and will book again!
Our second floor room was good but for the semis idling outside our closed window at 3-5am. The Monterey Hotel should replace their pillows. They were hard as cinder blocks. Otherwise, great!
I like the look of the property but didn’t like how rude the front desk lady was . I said I wanted to stay another night and she was acting like I wasn’t going to pay or something she checked my Orbitz account and because my number changed she freaked out on me . I’m a platinum member so I shouldn’t of had that problem. I simply told her let me go to my room to get my phone and I’ll rebook now . Which I did when she finally reactivated my key to the room . Would of been nice if she was more professional.
Should be at most a 2-star property. Dirty common areas and rooms. You have to drag your luggage up stairs to reach the lobby (no elevator). Pillows so uncomfortable it was impossible to sleep. Thin walls — could hear snoring from the next room as loud as if it was in the same room. A complete rip-off. Never again!

I enjoyed being close to so much and the helpful staff.
Liked the unique of the hotel but that’s about it. We didn’t like the beds they were hard & our room was by the steps. We could hear people back and forth (loud steps) The room smells old also the tv was so small. Very old looking hotel.
Beautiful historic property in the heart of downtown. Convenient to walk to shops, restaurants, beach, etc. Parking is off-site, but a short walk.
Pros: close up everything Cons: no fridge no microwave no iron and coffee maker broken not even a “do not disturb” tag for our double bed room:((((
It’s in a great location in Monterey - everything is in walking distance. The hotel and room were beautiful and clean.
We had a pleasant stay. Walking distance to many restaurants. Hard to judge service due to COVID restrictions.
The property cancelled my reservation with zero notice. Terrible experience. Would never go back.
