I had a horrible experience here. I booked this hotel for two nights, but my family and I were asked to leave after only one because there was an issue with the booking — even though I had already paid for both nights. The hotel had overbooked and decided to give our room to someone else. We were on our way to dinner with our toddler, who was tired and hungry, and because of this situation, we missed our reservation that took days to arrange. My son was crying, and it completely ruined our evening. The front desk staff member was polite and simply following instructions, but the manager, David, was the one who made the decision to have us leave. There was no empathy, accountability, or effort to make the situation right. We ended up booking a room at the Monterey Bay Inn across the street, and the difference was immediate. The room was spacious and spotless, the staff were professional and kind, they brought breakfast to our door, and they even gave us a same-day booking discount. This hotel needs to be far more mindful about how they treat paying guests. Overbooking happens, but displacing a family — especially one with a young child — without any solution or apology is unacceptable.

I honestly wonder if we stayed at the same hotel as those leaving glowing reviews, because our experience was far from pleasant. At check-in, despite someone physically present at the front desk, we were oddly directed to a digital kiosk where a remote agent checked us in via what seemed like FaceTime. Meanwhile, the in-person staff member debated details of our reservation aloud, adding to the confusion. The process was inefficient and frustrating. The hotel itself feels very dated and in need of a serious deep clean. While the room appeared tidy at first glance, a closer look revealed it was actually quite grimy. The air conditioning unit in our room was unbelievably loud—like a jet engine. But without it, the room became unbearably hot, so there was no winning. Noise was a major issue. The walls are paper-thin, and the hotel is situated right on a busy main road. We were woken several times by loud traffic—and, at one point, by extremely audible... activities from the room next door that felt uncomfortably close. Lastly, the water in the shower felt unusually “soft” or “conditioned,” leaving a slimy residue that made it hard to feel clean. Not sure if this is common in Monterey or unique to this property, but it was unpleasant. We’ve been traveling for months across various countries and cities, and unfortunately, this was our worst stay yet.
