I booked the Troy for a one night stay in order to attend a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. The hotel is ideally located close to Paddington Station and a short walk across the park to the RAH. The hotel is well presented, clearly budget, but that's the whole point! My room was clean and tidy and offered all I needed for a night's stay. The shower was over the bath and the water was hot. The room itself provided more than one might have expected at this price level; a safe, fridge, TV (poor reception), hairdryer and plenty of storage space. The price even included breakfast which was perfectly adequate.
We stayed in a twin room, 402. One of the beds blocked the wardrobe, so we could only open the doors slightly and doors were very stiff. The shower was very small, smallest ever! The room smelt very musky, could've been the bedspreads, which we had to take off and put in the wardrobe. There a was a lot of dust on the lampshade and so we were scared to put the ceiling fan on in case the dust flew everywhere. The small moblie fan was broken. The room was very warm. To use the kettle we had to switch the fridge off to use the socket. Although the mattresses looked new, they smelt terribly of plastic, as they should have been aired long before use. The rest of the room and bathroom were very clean. Breakfast was basic continental breakfast which was sufficient. The location was great and close to Queensway tube station.
One night stay as was attending the Arsenal Milan game and wanted an affordable hotel easily accessible to Marylebone and on the tube for the football stadium and some other London sites. Hotel is located within short walking distance of two underground stations with direct or convenient access to all of London. Area seemed very nice with shops, restaurants and bars. Hotel was clean, front desk helpful and 24 hours. My room was clean and tidy, as with all hotels within this price band, the TV did nt work properly on its reception! Small bathroom but OK, shower accessed straight onto bedroom carpet. Breakfast was continental however cheese and no meats, cereal and so on. Very good
Keep in mind that this review is based on one multiple night stay, so it may not be totally reflective of the conditions of the other rooms. But the good is that the hotel is conveniently located by Queensway, so there are options for the tube and bus. And it is about a 15 minute walk to Paddington Station. Around the corner, two blocks away are an assortment of restaurants which are all pretty good, as well as a supermarket. The room was clean but a bit worn and old, especially our carpeting. There is no air conditioning in the room, which was not an issue for our trip in March, but you should be aware of this if travelling during the summer. On the downside, the bed was a thin matress where you could feel the indiviudual springs, which gave little support. So it was not a restful night sleep for our stay. The breakfast selection was basic with coffee, tea, cheese, yogurt, ceral, and an assortment of bread. If you're expectations and requirements are simple and cost is a priority, then the Troy is a good choice.
Positive : Clean, good room size, very good location, elevator, many drawers Negative: Unfriendly staff, most of them do not smile and sad. The mattress was so old, I could feel the springs and it squeaks when I move. The shower tabs are old and was not easy to balance the preferred water temperature. very slow wifi, most of TV channels got bad signal. I did not get City view window as I booked. there was a wall in front of the window, approx 30 cm away, but i could see the sky only. I stayed in room 504, these was a sound of a machine or generator below my floor, that starts every few hours and lasts for couple of minutes, it is very loud and vibrates my floor. On 2nd day I went to reception inquiring what is this sound and if it can be avoided because it awakes me from sleep, the receptionist checked his screen and said " there is a room below your room and there is no machine", I said, what about the sound in my room, he answer" There is no sound" !!! he did not even try to help or to understand what is the problem. obviously they know it and acting like that. I had 2 pillows, one think and one thick. I asked the receptionist if they can ask the house keeping to replace the thin pillow with a thick one, he said "I don't know that sizes of the pillows" !! thankfully it was replaced. Once I stayed in bed not feeling well all day and i hanged the sign DO NOT DISTURB out side the door. the housekeepers favorite place to chat loudly became right behind my door.
Good location just besides Queensway tube station and good value overall. The breakfast was very basic (very continental in real 80's fashion) and room was very cold (it was -3 C outside). The hotel and room were very clean.
Hotel was very conveniently sited for our visit, right on Hyde park. Comfortable and clean room. Couple of old stains on bedding and net curtain, which looked old stains that were stubborn to remove, four make up marks on one of the hand towels, but not too big a problem,we just put it to be re-washed. Continental breakfast which was adequate. Free WiFi which wasn’t brilliant, but I’ve never yet stayed in a hotel with excellent WiFi anyway
Came here the same time last year...... same result, cheap (as we don't book a fri/sat night), useful (2 tube stations around the corner) (Hyde park for walking). Quiet street as its all hotels. £52 a night , bargain.(breakfast not included, but has fridge in room)
This is the second time we have stayed at the Troy. Again we had an enjoyable stay. My partner and I stayed for 4 nights and were drawn back to the ideal location with 2 tube stations close by and £52 a night tariff. It's quite a dated hotel but is clean and welcoming. We were in room 204 and had a good sized room, comfortable double bed, fridge, kettle, TV and bathroom with a shower. The room was clean, fresh sheets and towels everyday and tea and coffee replaced regularly. We didn't have breakfast as we make use of the fridge and take our own cereal. The TV signal wasn't brilliant (mainly BBC1) but we found the WiFi okay. Another great stay. We will definitely return if the price is good.
Listen, if you are traveller on a medium budget and you wish to stay overnight in the Bayswater area you cannot demandt luxury. This hotel is no frills but is clean and functional. The rooms are smallish but there is a telly and a shower, tea and coffee and the beds are comfy. The breakfast choice is limited but quite acceptable. When you are charged only 60 quid or so for B&B in this part of London you could have no complaints about this hotel.
