Flights Review

Mar 16, 2020

Everything was great until I had to wait 35 minutes for the baggage to come down. Extremely excessive wait time for a plane not even filled at half of its capacity.

Mar 12, 2020

Very standard service

Mar 11, 2020

A perfect flight through and through!

Mar 10, 2020

The people were friendly, that makes a big difference.

Mar 8, 2020

Pretty empty flight so the whole experience is smooth!

Mar 7, 2020

I would definitely fly with Alaska Air again!

Mar 6, 2020

Seatbelt was long enough on DTW TO AUS ( not CMH to DTW)

Mar 5, 2020

Great flight

Mar 5, 2020

Well operated economy airline. Great fare and service !

Feb 23, 2020

Spirit Airlines has honestly improved their cabin layout. I had leg room on this flight and was very pleased about it.

Feb 21, 2020

When I booked through, although they have had my TSA number for years, it did not appear on my boarding pass. Called Orbitz and agent said that the airline had to put it in. I booked a ticket in January through Orbitz with no problem and my TSA was on my boarding pass. Very disappointing.

Feb 20, 2020

Quick flight! Very straight forward!

Cheap Flights to Australia

Vast landscapes, even vaster golden beaches, long stretches of pristine rainforests, lovable wildlife, fun-filled cities and year-round sunshine: what is there not to love about Australia? The hours spent on a flight pale into insignificance when you visit one of America’s favourite long haul destinations.

Find Cheap Flights to Oz with Orbitz and surf, sunbathe and sip a schooner of beer on the other side of the world.

When to Book Flights to Australia

Australia is truly the land down under. Located in the southern hemisphere, it enjoys its summer during the US winter. As a result, flights to Australia tend to rise in price between November and the start of March.

In northern states – like Queensland – the warm weather rarely stops. Here the mercury never drops much below 70˚F during the day at any time of year. So, you can grab that sun without paying the hottest prices.

In southern parts of the country, the months of June, July and August can be a little cooler but so are the airfares.

For moderate temperatures, quiet beaches and a good choice of flights to Australia from American airports, consider planning your trip in spring or fall when conditions are often at their most pleasant.

How to Find the Best Flight Deals to Australia

If you’re currently hunting for great value tickets to Australia, Orbitz can help you track them down.

Choose ‘Nearby Airports’ to see flights to and from other destinations close to your suggested departure and arrival points. You can often grab a great deal by flying to or from an alternative location.

Check if connecting flights can get you there cheaper than direct flights – often a non-direct flight adds little to your overall flight time. You can also use the advanced options to search for non-refundable flights: these are typically cheaper.

Try comparing prices on different days around your chosen dates. Click the ‘My dates are flexible’ tick box to discover the cheapest flights across a range of days.

Main Airports in Australia

Most major cities in Australia have an international airport so finding flights to your chosen destination should be pretty easy. Indeed, you don’t have to fly in and out of the same airport – multi-city flights can also unearth some cheaper fares.

The busiest international airports in Australia are Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, however many smaller cities also have domestic air terminals.

Which Airlines Fly to Australia?

Airlines offering direct flights to Australia from America include:

  • Qantas
  • Virgin Australia
  • United Airlines
  • Delta

How to Get Around in Australia

As one of the biggest countries on earth, the easiest way to travel across Australia is by air. And, if you’re looking for cheap flights within Australia, there are a number of low-cost carriers waiting to oblige.

Alternatively, buses regularly run between the cities and a few long-distance sleeper trains are also available.

When you arrive in any of the country’s famous cities getting around is easy on local bus networks, taxis and trams.

The home of the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef also boasts an average of 300 sunny days a year. There’s arts and culture in Brisbane or rainforests and wildlife in Cairns.

Tips for Traveling in Australia

Visitors to Australia need a visa. Although Tourist Visas are usually issued within 24 hours, it can take longer. If you don’t have a visa you won’t be allowed to board your flight.

Be sure to ask about multi-day passes and smartcard systems for transport in Australian cities. These make using public transport easier and a lot cheaper.

Fare, taxes & fees: Fares include all taxes and fees, except baggage fees. Rates shown reflect fares found by other Orbitz users over the past 7 days. Due to rapidly changing airline prices & seat availability, these fares may no longer be available.

Refunds/changes/cancellations: Itinerary changes, if permitted for the fare, will have a $30 service fee charged by Orbitz. Additional airline charges may apply.

Other conditions: Schedules, fares and rules are subject to change without notice. Seats are limited and may not be available on all flights/dates or in all markets. Lower fares may be available. Fares will not be honored retroactively or in exchange for any wholly/partially unused ticket. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable. Fare rules are provided for the selected itinerary before booking.
