My room was a little difficult to reach as I first needed to go up one floor, then down a staircase. One of the lifts was very old, and seemed badly in need of a service. I asked a staff member if there was an alternate way of reaching my room, and was told no. I later found access via a second staircase. The bed was comfortable, but the spare blanket had not been laundered. I expected more for an advertised price of $289 per night.
A good hotel for the price. Situated in a great, central location close to public transport and walking distance from the convention centre. Room was clean and serviceable. The room wasn't huge, but a decent enough size, especially for the price. Only negative really was the bed. It was two singles pushed together and the edges of the two mattresses joined in the middle was raised and made it too uncomfortable to sleep close together. Water pressure in the shower was fantastic
Okay...good location for a short stay...but that's where the positives stop. Was "upgraded" from Queen room to King room...but king bed was nothing more than 2 singles pushed together and you couldn't sleep in the middle. Bathroom mirror was 20cm wide..yes, 20cm wide with terrible lighting. They provide a small piece of soap and shampoo. There is no soap rack in the shower...only plugged holes in the wall where it used to be. Floor tiles need a good scrub. I can easily hear my neighbours talking through the walls and can hear the people in the floor above walking around their room. Was all a little depressing tbh. Sorry, won't be coming back.
Close to southern cross station, trams easily accessed (free travel around city) handy to river precinct, casino, exhibition centre and cbd. Have stayed on several occasions and can highly recommend. Staff excellent (have never encountered a grumpy or discourteous one) Twin beds are comfortable but need to be a little wider - movement restrictive didnt want to fall out. Bathroom spacious with enough room to move and shower gives good hot water stream. One negative is only 1 set of towels - a lot of people like to shower at night and upon rising in morning and towels dont dry overnight.
This was always our go to when we came to Melbourne. But after the last two visits they have lost us. Both times we were "Upgraded" to the front of the hotel but our last visit we stayed there and it was so noisey with sirens and traffic. This time i asked for the room we booked because we knew it was in a quiet area of the hotel. But the main reason we won't be back is the bed. As beds do they have lost their comfort with age and the last 2 visits we have found the bed hard and the springs are quite noticeable. It is in a great spot for access to wherever you want to go but there is a lot of other choices in the area as well.
Room was neat and tidy, but small as expected but we were overnighting so was all we needed. However there is no sound insulation and you can hear everything from outside to the adjoining rooms. This was tolerable until we had guests above us constantly pacing their room, talking loudly and hopping on and off their bed until the early hours. We complained to the night manager who was "aware" of who was stating above us and spoke to them, which resulted in some noise reduction. We mentioned this on check out but the day staff though confirming notes were left were less knowledgeable of the noisy guest and offered nothing but a half hearted apology. If you want cheap accommodation just go to a hostel as this is essentially just an upmarket version of one and definitely avoid it if you're a light sleeper
Stayed here on 2 separate occasions during August as it is very central to transport links and is pretty cheap. The rooms are small but have what you need for a short stay. The reception staff are super friendly and helpful. We did pay for late check-out on the 2nd stay but were woken up by cleaning staff just opening our door and walking in (we even had the Do Not Disturb on) and when we told them to get out they came back 30 mins later and knocked - we still had over an hour to check out. Reception did refund the fee for late check-out but still...annoying when you have to travel. Overall - you get what you pay for. Small rooms, nothing flashy, good staff at reception and a decent location.
We’ve just one home after spending 10 days in Melbourne for the Aust Vs USA basketball games. The hotel was every thing we needed in a hotel. Nice and central, on tram lines and just down from Southern Cross station. The room (a family room) was very spacious and in good condition. Parking was guaranteed in either the small on site parking, or an adjacent parking station. The staff were very helpful, as were those in the restaurant which was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The meals were excellent. There were also laundry facilities which are always welcome. The only word of warning, ask for a back room, as the rooms above Spencer Street are very noisy...And a small disappointment was the lack of a mini bar. We’d had a horrific journey down from Sydney and a chocolate bar would have been very nice. However, the hotel is close to shops so that situation was easily solved
We needed somewhere close to the exhibition centre - very close, you can walk. Car parking is 24hrs and easily accessible, its just around the corner. You can have breakfast there, we didn't have time for that, but my father did (family trip) he said it was great, We asked for rooms together, but they were a bit of a walk from each other. The family room was a generous size, smaller room was too small, not much bigger than the bed! both rooms were very clean and comfortable. Its a huge place and our room was facing the street, so very noisy.
This Hotel is only a couple of minutes walk from Southern Cross Station, making it perfect if staying overnight in Melbourne to catch an early interstate rail departure. It has recently been renovated and for under $100 a night I was presented with a spacious room, King Bed and a very clean and presentable environment. The Reception staff were excellent and there is really nothing more I could have wanted for an overnight stay. Sure it is not a big name chain with reward points and the extras I expect at an Intercontinental or Hilton, but all I needed was a bed close the Station at a reasonable price and it exceeded my expectations for the price, the 4 Stars are based on overall experience, on value it is a definable 5 Star!
