Comfort Inn Demopolis2.5 out of 5.0

I was in Demopolis on business in early December when I stayed at the Comfort Inn. I was amazed at the cleanliness of this hotel. The breakfast was great, the lobby area was immaculate. The housekeepers walked down the halls smiling and greeting guests. Very impressive. Will definitely stay there again!
Rooms are clean and comfortable and most everything works in most of the rooms. Stayed here often recently while visiting in the area. Katy and Clay at the front desk get me checked in and to my room with fast, friendly service. Tonya in the breakfast area is so pleasant and has everything so well stocked. Love the poached eggs and bacon! Will stay here again just bc they remember me now and make me feel so welcome each time.
Older hotel that has been remodeled. It has nice paint, new beds, modern furnishings, nice lighting, tile in the bathrooms, pleasant photos on the walls. Clean and tidy. Well lighted parking lot. Super friendly staff. Quiet and peaceful. Continental breakfast with scrambled eggs, biscuits, gravy; cereals and breads available; various juices.
Wow. Stayed here 15 months ago and the experience was much better then. First, Internet was absolutely useless. I had work to do and if I had known I couldn't connect to the Internet, I would have stayed elsewhere. Second, I was afraid to use the elevator. After checking in, we were stuck on elevator for a minute then door keep opening and closing. Only used it when I checked out to get my luggage downstairs. Third, I was traveling with a companion who has a service dog. They charged me $20 which I later learned is illegal. Guess who will be staying at the Best Western next time I'm in Demopolis?
Pros: Quick, friendly check-in and out. Room clean and spacious. Comfortable bed. Good breakfast with lots of choices, hot and cold, except no potatoes. Cons: A/C a little loud, even when fan turned low.
The bed was soft and comfortable. The room was clean and the staff was nice. However, the food truck had not made the delivery as scheduled so the complimentary breakfast the next morning was not available. The maintenance guy needs to repair the shower in the bathroom so that the hot water can mix with the cold water. Cold showers are ok during the summer, but not during February.
I have stayed at this property several times before and was surpised by some of the reviews. However, I decided to stay here based on my previous stays. I am unsure of others experience, however it was not my experience. The room was clean with the exception of a bathroom door hinge that needed some minor dusting. The linens were clean as well as other parts of the room. I would stay at this property without hesitation. There was a problem with the breakfast menu, however it was thoroughly explained to me during the check-in process. The person checking me in was very personable and responsive to my needs. Again, I would hesitate to stay at this property.
First, I was told on arrival that the only king room left only had a managers key so every time I needed entry the desk clerk would have to let me in. This wasn't going to work. I couldn't be switched to a queen room because I book thru a corporate travel agent and the queen room was a few dollars more. Maybe the desk person was new, but I'm almost positive any other hotel would have eaten the few dollars to accommodate the guest. The clerk was nice but my check in took a while but she was finally able to swap another king. There was a roach in the room and the breakfast was poor at best. Breakfast is over at 9am and the "hostess" was already pulling all of the bagels, muffins, bread etc. by 8:15am. She was so busy texting and being lazy it was quite apparent that I was an imposition to her plans to get out of there. The garbage bags were out of the containers laying in the floor right next to the food, very tacky. I'll never stay again. if the BW is not available next time, I'll drive however long I have to find a decent hotel. This was NOT a 90.00 room. Motel6 would have been better.
Most hotels have a cancellation policy of by 4pm or 5pm the same day. I was forced to book here based on availability and my travel plans were forced to change. I cancelled my reservation <24 hours in advance through our corporate travel company, and was charged... later finding out the Comfort Inn has a very non-competitive must cancel at least 24 hours in advance policy. Trying to get a receipt from the hotel a week later... I've called the front desk and let the phone ring for an hour with no answer, I've searched for a local hotel email address and can't find one, and finally resulted to calling the corporate number to talk to someone overseas.
Musty smelling room that was missing soap and tissues. The next day the cleaning staff didn't replace the bath mat. The bathrooms are dated with crooked ceiling tiles, yellowed hair dryer and coated over bathroom light. Breakfast is good and a microwave and large refrigerator are provided in the room which is nice. They also had plenty of outlets so the room itself has been updated.
