Friendly service, good location, and cool chic interiors.

The best Hostel at the best location! The best Hostel at the best location!

Loved the vibe, location, and room. Staff were friendly and room was very clean.

Very. Ice location for our needs. Walking distance to restaurants and grocery store. Very convenient. Great space in guest kitchen for eating in. Enjoyed our stay.

very well localized, near metro, near downtown lot of good places to eat too

I stayed in a private Quad room, and loved it. Freehand was part of why I fell in love with Chicago. Personable and helpful staff members. Wonderful coffee. Loved the atmosphere. Room was clean and comfortable. Loved the community they provided. I will go back to Freehand next time I go to Chicago. Hands. Down!

Young and hipster but for the money of a private room I expected a room bigger that a closet, glasses, more than one ice machine for the entire hotel and info about the breakfast offering in the community kitchen.

I stayed at the Freehand for three nights/four days with my 14-tear-old son, and we had a really positive experience. It was in the center of everything, and the vibe was very laid-back and accommodating. Our room was comfortable, the staff were nice...a good place to stay!

I really liked that it was central to all the places we visited such as Millennium Park, Navy Pier and all the great places to eat. They also had a cute little lounge and coffee shop on first floor which was nice prior to heading out. The only think I had issues with was the elevator. The housekeeping staff were stopping on almost every floor and we were jam packed in there for an extended amount of time. They should have their own elevator. But overall I would stay here again and recommend it to others.

Dark hallways, tiny rooms, no central air, room service delays (food was comped), no refrigerator in room, and toilet broke. Very poor overall experience. Embarrassed that I told my friends to stay here especially given the price of the room and plethora of other options around the corner. Stayed at Freehand in NYC- rooms were much more nicely appointed and less expensive.

I've stayed at the Freehand in LA in a comparable size room (Queen) and it was amazing. The room in Chicago was tiny and only resembled the website pictures from certain angles. The bed was in an alcove and only accessible from one side which made the bed show wear only on that side and had a significant dip and was very uncomfortable. The rug and carpet looked filthy and the room smelled like dirty clothes, it didn't have the nice cleaning product smell that confirms the room has been properly disinfected after each guest. The sheets were too hot, too much polyester content. I am perhaps not the demographic to which this hotel targets to. The crowd is significantly younger and hipster, I'm in my late 30s and I felt like a misfit. If you are used to the Kimpton experience or any other chain to say the least... this place is not for you. The staff was fantastic though, except for the cafe downstairs that was not ready to serve breakfast at 7am their stated opening time. They said I had to wait 30 minutes for the kitchen to open and see if the kitchen had avocados for the avocado toast I ordered... ironic for a hipster place not to have avocados for avocado toast!!!

We booked as our daughter was graduating that weekend and obviously had the wrong expectations. We did not realise that it is an upmarket hostel and that the king room would be minute and of hostel type size. As this is a very busy season we paid nniceky and were truly shocked by the room for that prize. It was minute and the King room view was either right into a garage up close or a garage a bit further away (if we wanted to go with the lower category of a queen). A real shocker for us. However, The hotel has a great vibe if you do not care about size of the minute room. The room itself was clean and functional, but for two people quite claustrophobic. The bar and the ground level area were cool and fun, we loved it. Staff at the reception super friendly and helpful. We only had breakfast once, Amanda who served the four of us at the cafe first time round was the rudest waitress all four of us have encountered in years. She treated with utter disdain (no eye contact or greeting or verbal interaction, never cleared the table, terrible mood and attitude - she obviously hates her job or has some other issue). We were good customers and are usually well liked, as we are polite English travellers. After two hours, we had enough and did ask her whether she had an issue; she refused to apologise properly and made no attempt at being friendly even then. She then sent her manager to clear the table - and the manager took our complaint (“the most shambolic service”).

Inexpensive,friendly,clean,comfortable and,has a great location.

Fair for the price, awesome staff at the reception.

I have a few comments: The bed was too low. Dull lighting in the bedroom. The TV was difficult to switch On & Off, maybe the remote needed new batteries. Room 505. Overall I enjoyed my stay and have recommended your hotel to friends.

Very affordable accommodations in a great location.

Would definitely stay here again based on this experience.

Nice location in the heart of downtown Chicago nice restaurantsite around the hotel

I didn't stay there because I didn't want to stay in the room with four other people. When I try to call and get my money back they told me no refunds so no good review

the establishment was very clean , however , for the cold weather the establishment lacked proper heating for the building. it was terribly cold inside the rooma. wasn't able to stay in the hotel for my 4 day weekend in Chicago .
