I originally booked a quad and “upgraded” to a private room due to my late night arrival, I’ve stayed at the NY location before so I had expectations of a similar room and amenities. The most largest disappointment was you could immediately tell the mattress needed to be replaced as I got in bed I immediately was able to feel the bed frame underneath. The mattress had a obvious dip in it. The room did not have slippers or robes like the NYC location and spaces to lounge that were not a bar atmosphere in the being did not exist. The location however was great I was able to walk to my daily location in the loop and there are plenty of choices for dining and shopping in there area.
Location is great. I like the outdoor seating with music. The bathroom shower curtain and chower tiles had mold, but the sheets were clean.
I love that there was a washer and dryer
Great hotel that is on budget and stylish

I must admit- my husband and I were disappointed in our stay at Freehand Chicago. Upon arrival, the gentleman at the front desk gave a speedy run through of all the ins/outs of the hotel including parking, amenities, etc. You would have thought it was the memorized speech rollercoaster operators quickly recite to riders before takeoff. As first time visitors to Chicago, we had several questions and were looking forward to recommendations or tips for the city. (We also researched this ahead of time.) It was very evident he was in a rush and it came off incredibly rude. When we went to our room, there was a heavy, saturated odor of marijuana. Because it seemed that marijuana was legal here, we didn’t report it and assumed it was going to be wrote off if we reported it. We later found out that smoking was NOT permitted in any rooms and we told them about it at checkout to ensure we weren’t charged the $250. The woman at the desk looked at me almost in humor that I was complaining about this and just said housekeeping will take care of it. I can confidently tell you I doubt they will as they clearly didn’t before our arrival. We will not be returning to Freehand again.

I think it a great place n ckean and the staff is great!
Had a classic feel to it. Kinda like a old 1920s type feel, with and updated touch.
Unless you pay for a single room, you'll be sharing with 3 other people. Depending on who you get, your experience will vary. But the beds are soft, the shower has high-flow heads, downstairs is a bar that's bumping, and the location can't be beat.
Having 4 guests in a very small room was Not acceptable! Furthermore, parking spaces were too expensive!
I like the staff, the boy at the front desk was very nice, he printed my basketball tickets free
