they may not be the newest hotel but is relatively well maintained and has a welcoming lobby and the staff were also welcoming so it made up for many other possible short comings that we did not see as short comings and just enjoyed the fact that it is a good location and that we were well attended too.

This property is right on the waterfront and has been constructed so that every room has a view of the harbour. It is very close to the terminal where cruise ships arrive on a regular basis. During the off-season (Fall & Winter) the restaurant is open only for breakfast but there are other options within walking distance. Parking is free. If you are lucky enough to get checked-in by Mary Frances, you are in for a treat — she is an excellent example of hospitality the way it should be done. She is familiar with surrounding areas and even those that are not that close ... an amazing personality that could be a model for anyone in the hospitality industry! The hotel may be in need of some renovations as it looks a bit worn in certain areas but it was comfortable and clean.

The room was disappointed. Bed was uncomfortable. Cheap mattress, cheap blanket. No big lights. Only three lamps. Bathroom was out of time. Bathtub was not clean. On their website said breakfast was included but actually not. Breakfast buffet was more than $18 per person and we only have few items on the buffet. Food was very dry. Scrambled egg was dry. Croissant was dry and not fresh. Sausage was very salty. Glass was dirty. Juice was cheap. Not worth any money we paid. Holiday Inn should much better than this.

Easy to find hotel. Good location and near river walk. Breakfast was quite good but not on the house. Reasonably priced. Great view of the harbor from our room. Fitness center less that great. Near a very good restaurant.

We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting the Cabot Trail and Fortress Louisbourg. It's beautifully located in downtown Sydney, on the bay, right on the boardwalk overlooking the cruise terminal. The front desk was very welcoming and helpful. The hotel itself is showing its age. Bed's were OK, but linens and towels were very thin. The air conditioning system is in a clunky old heater unit that is noisy and cycles the fan off and on. No other settings. If only the windows opened a bit, you could do without it. Halls were noisy (a wedding was there one night of our stay). The indoor pool is beautiful with a 2-story slide, but it was jam-packed so we didn't try it. We couldn't get our Firestick to work on the TV. Finally we discovered that the HDMI port access is on a channel on the TV remote, but we still couldn't get it hooked up to the iffy wifi. There is free parking, but the lot was often blocked by people waiting to check in.

We were treated to a room with a view at this hotel. The picturesque Sydney harbour was breathtaking from our windows. The hotel was very clean, staff very friendly. The only downfall was the poor wifi service.

Typically we stay in Marriott when we travel. However there are no Marriott properties in Sydney. We chose the Holiday Inn. It is an eight floor hotel right on the water. It is conveniently located with easy walking distance to Centre 200 and the Nova Scotia Casino as well as several of the higher rated restaurants in the area. There is also a nice park and walking area next adjacent. The hotel is clean and we had a lovely room overlooking the harbor on the eighth floor. There are two restaurants in the hotel. One overlooks the water. We didn't try either of the restaurants though so we can't comment on either of them. We were happy with our choice of hotel.

the room was fantastic the view was great the room service was the best anywhere when you asked for any kind of help the people there were right on the ball they were easy going and they knew how to help i would recommend this place to many people and already have it is a place for comfort and fun

I was concerned after reading some of the reviews. For business travel two things really matter....clean and quiet I contacted the hotel and Cyril not only assured me everything would be ok he met me at check-in. I didnt have a water front room but who cares. When on business I am either working or going out The first night I was tired and hung out at the bar. The bartender is a funny guy who makes all of us business types feel comfortable....ask him about the menu item that only 10% of people like yet he does There is a great bar just across the road if you are looking for an alternative The gym is "ok". There is enough equipment to make a decent work out ...but dont expect state of the art All things considered, I am glad I stayed here

We spent three nights at the Holiday Inn in Sydney NS this month, whilst touring Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island. We were particularly happy with our room (718 or 818) which fronted on the water and had great views. All rooms have a bit of a water view, but the ones at the end of each floor have the best views. Service was satisfactory, the room was clean and in good repair. There were two table lamps with sockets, but it took some finesse to maintain the contacts. Bed was very comfortable--standard pillows are rather large, but smaller types were apparently available for request. The bathroom is a bit small--somehow out of proportion to the grand dimensions of the bedroom itself. The hotel restaurant was fine for breakfast buffet; also had a dinner there--enjoyed salmon and haddock dishes. Some reviews have complained about staff indifference, but we found everyone we dealt with to be extremely cordial and helpful with local directions. At the back of the hotel is the boardwalk--nearby is a great icecream stand and farther along is the giant violin. Sydney's downtown is a bit depressed--the town's economy has had many hits over the past few decades. Nonetheless, there are several shops including a very nice crafts and arts center. A Sobey's grocery is about three blocks from the hotel.
