From the exterior this property looks like quite a gem. And back in its day I’m sure it was. Unfortunately it is very much showing it’s age on the inside, given that it’s been a couple decades since the last renovation. The exception is the common rooms off the main entrance, with beautiful detail work and high ceilings. However, the circa 1995-styled guest rooms and especially the fitness center, are quite subpar. The breakfast is lovely, and the hotel is in a good location. Parking was unclear, however the staff (aka “butlers”; weird) were more than willing to valet the car. The staff is truly outstanding, and hopefully one day the physical property will shine as brightly.
This was a second visit to the Mansion. It was a couples celebration weekend with a show and dinner in Buffalo. As we expected, the service level of the team at Mansion is excellent. They are very attentive and gracious, ready to serve in any way. We had a standard room and made use of the bar and lounge spaces. It was very comfortable and welcoming Breakfast the next morning was outstanding providing options for any taste. The room was comfortable, with the only issue being the need for a bathroom refresh as the tile on the floor is stained giving the room a dirty feel it should not have (clearly have been cleaned, just the type and colour made it look dingy) and the bathtub/shower needs a refresh as the shower did not work well. We are looking forward to returning.
We just spent one night in room 400. We were pleasantly surprised because it was an upgrade from the basic room we had booked. I’ll list the pluses and minuses. Ultimately, I’d stay at the mansion again. Pluses: 1) The staff is wonderful! 2) The car service made our evening - we were attending a concert and also had dinner plans. Our driver, Ian, was so kind. I told him he looked exactly like Lin-Manuel Miranda. 3) The evening honor bar was s pleasant surprise; the bartender was charming. 4) Our room was very spacious. 5) The morning breakfast buffet was presented beautifully and the food was delicious - much better than the standard pre-fab that you get at the chain hotels. The minuses: 1) The walls are thin. There was a room that adjoined ours that had a locked connecting door. When we returned from the concert, there was a lot of noise in the adjoining room; I attributed it to everyone being on a high from the concert and did my best to fall asleep. Unfortunately, I was awakened at 4:45am by the sound of the 2 neighbors, singing together, the showstopping number “Ring of Keys” from the Broadway musical Fun Home. I had to call the front desk and the manager came up and knocked on their door. They did quiet down a bit but continued their audition for the bus and truck tour of the show. I finally had to pound on the door and scared them into silence. Unfortunately, my wife woke up and wondered why I was having a tantrum. When I mentioned what happened to the morning manager, her response was “it must have been the women with the feather boas.” Ladies, if you are reading this review, you should be ashamed of yourselves - you don’t even deserve to be in a high school musical. 2) The carpet needs to be replaced throughout the hotel - the whole property reminds me of a dowager empress - glorious in her time but now weather beaten. 3) The water pressure in the shower was terrible - if it were a man, he’d have to be placed on Flomax. I don’t blame the hotel at all for our neighbors and truly appreciate the night manager’s responsiveness to my phone call. The other issues were minor. I look forward to staying at the hotel again, albeit finding a quiet corner to relax in. Kudos to the entire staff!
We were shown our room, #210, and I was not impressed. For being a "luxury hotel," these were not luxurious accommodations. We returned from an evening out and were looking forward to a comfortable night sleep. The bed was probably the most uncomfortable bed we've slept on. We could feel every spring. The walls are as thin as paper. The sound of doors shutting was so loud and immediately woke us from sleep. When the doors shut, our walls rattled. The wall was where our heads were so we were shaken awake. It was the most disappointing hotel experience. I've traveled a lot for work and never stayed in a room as poor as this.
When we arrived the Mansion was putting the final touches on major renovations in the main rooms where the Happy Hour and Breakfast are served. They have installed a large bar in the Library and moved the pool table into this area. The opposite room now has additional seating for the happy hour or breakfast. We enjoyed the help yourself happy hour as well as the continental breakfast in the morning. We stayed in the same room the last two visits and it was perfectly appointed and quiet. Overall another great stay at the Mansion.
I stayed here for 2 nights for work on my first visit to Buffalo. Arrived on a Monday afternoon to a friendly staff that seemed genuine about our comfort. While enjoying our complimentary happy hour drinks, we got word that we were upgraded to nicer rooms without even asking! Great start to say the least. the complimentary car service was awesome to dinner was great and it didn't hurt that out ride was a nice Land Rover. Breakfast is fresh and just right. Staff is is by far the best part and thanks to Neill who was so attentive to our needs. Well located and an easy drive from the airport and downtown as well.
Beautiful restored mansion with a top notch staff. The service was outstanding. Location is perfect for walking to the theater district and many fine restaurants however if you'd rather ride, the staff will shuttle you in a classy Range Rover to your destination. It's great to see Buffalo in restoration. Such a lovely city with great people.
I stayed at The Mansion for the second time recently. The first stay - it was years ago - was brief; I think I stayed overnight. This stay was considerably longer. I stayed at the hotel with a client and a colleague in separate suites for five nights. We were in Buffalo for a civil jury trial, and we found that this facility was convenient to the courthouse without being right on top of it. We actually found the hotel convenient to everything we needed while in downtown Buffalo. This is an exceptional hotel property. The team is outstanding. Everyone was kind, attentive, sincere and genuine. The members were, with one exception, committed to excellence. They were timely, and each kept promises and commitments. As someone who stays in hotels frequently throughout the world, this team ranks among the finest. I turn now to the property. The buidling is a classic Victorian mansion. It is in superb condition. The original woodwork is obvious; the fireplaces actually work; the ceilings are high; the molding is intact. The elevator, while slow, worked and was reliable. The building was very clean. The common areas were well maintained and orderly. The environment was fresh and not stale. The lighting was very good - it was tempered and did not make you feel like you were facing either headlights or spotlights in a lineup. My suite - room 400 - faced the main street. I did not hear road noise or any other disruptive sounds. It was spacious, clean and quite adequate for both me and my work assignment. The bathroom was very large, and it had a window seat. The complimentary breakfast buffet was great. It offered everything I wanted. (There were a couple of days when the number of guests was small, and we could order from a menu without burden.) The hotel even brought Starbucks coffee and NYC newspapers each day to my client. The free car service was very useful. The hotel maintains a vehicle that guests can use for trips within a three mile radius. The drivers - everyone took their rotation driving us about - always were reasonably prompt, reliable, very careful and attentive. Several members of the team are certified butlers. It is obvious - they know their business. The price is very reasonable when measured against the facility, the team, the location and the overall environment. The Mansion is a comfortable place. The bar is very nice, comfortable and adequate. Guests can pour their drinks or ask someone to handle that task. It is a comfortable setting with an operating fireplace. I had no concerns whatsoever with the temperatures in the common areas or in my suite. As noted above, the place - all parts of it - was very comfortable and safe. The only deficiency I can point to is the Fitness Center. It is a tiny area that has three cardio devices and some weights. A large flat screen television is in the area, and it is almost as large as the entire area. Two of the cardio devices were not working when I was at the hotel. The leadership team should advise guests that this facility is minimal and notify them (as they did in my case) that an LA Fitness gym is about five minutes away by car. Because the hotel gym did not meet my standards, I went daily to the LA Fitness facility daily, and the hotel driver (or a taxi service paid for by the hotel at my early hours) took me and later picked my up.
The hotel is older and quaint. Staff was very responsive and the wedding reception was amazing! Butlers are happy to shuttle to local destinations. I was excited to see all of the jets in the shower, but the pressure was low and the water never really got hot enough (we were on the 4th floor). European style breakfast was delicious! Overall, would recommend this place,
Not only is this place gorgeous, but the customer service is phenomenal! They shuttled our party to dinner, the theater and back home. Nightcaps were complimentary, as was breakfast in the morning. We drank wine by the fire in the Billiards Room until 2am. The valet service included brushing the snow off my car, warming the seats and interior, and loading our luggage in the back. Can't say enough good things about the experience. The room was lovely and every member of the staff with whom we interacted was friendly and made us feel welcome. We will be back. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
