Stay at own Risk- they may cancel your room

I arrived as scheduled and was told my booking had been cancelled- I had been bumped! I asked why and was told because there were many requests for rooms at a higher rate due to Northerners coming to the city (evacuees maybe?). In other words, my prepaid reservation wasn't a priority. I was told my credit card wasn't valid. I told them that was not true, I had booked through Hotels.com and prepaid so they didn't even have my credit card. I was then told I didn't have a valid cell number for them to call me so they cancelled- also untrue- all to justify the cancellation. Then, they asked to be prepaid $50 night damage deposit. As there were no available rooms in Brandon and I was there for an event, I pushed back and finally was given the room I had booked and paid for one month earlier. The hotel grounds were filthy. There was garbage EVERYWHERE including cans, dirty plates with food from the free breakfast, trash and even a dead rat in the parking lot. The place was loud. There were parties going on outside our room until early hours. The hotel had two security guards patrolling at times and a guard seated in the hallway (on his phone). The room was ok with the exception of a strong chemical odor (probably from rug shampoo) and the tub was dirty. They only cleaned rooms every 3rd day. The breakfast was OK. Basically, the hotel was not to the standards I've come to expect from Comfort Inn- likely because of new owners?? They did have a cleaner outside when I left.

Disappointment

My stay was good until the end of my stay, the sliding door was poorly maintained and when I finished loading my luggage the door come off the track and would not close so I could lock it, I reported it to the front desk and the lady looked at it and said that the staff would take care of it and I was convinced that the door issue was resolved, but about two hours after I left she called me and said that I broke the door and she was charging my credit card $250.00, that’s nonsense, if I was a younger man I would’ve put it back in the track and locked the door, if this charge shows up on my credit card bill, will have a whole different opinion about the Comfort Inn in Brandon MB

When I seen a security guard stationed at the hotel we should have left right away. Groups of people walking the parking lots at all hours of the night carrying on, felt very unsafe to walk dog after dark.
