Red Roof Inn Ann Arbor - University of Michigan South

2.0 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

Hotel is in need of some major refurbishment. There are a lot of cracks and rust in and out of rooms. Bathrooms were small. Breakfast was not bad. Typical continental set up. Wish they had hot chocolate for the kids.

Room cleanliness standard is waning a bit. Recently have not had many rooms that were thoroughly vacuumed (lots of debris in the corners of the rooms) and most recently the shower had not been cleaned in the room I was in. Lots of hair sitting on top of the drain. Also, maybe its the warmer weather but about 50% of the time I am awakened at some point during the night by LOUD banter in the common areas outside of the rooms or in the parking lot that often goes on for long periods of time. The worst was several hours. Maybe a combination of beer, drugs and lack of self -awareness I don't know but the manager has had little influence on curbing this. Might need to hire a security person to patrol or at least be on call to nip these issues in the bud when they start. Hard to beat the price and value, but I'm hoping they're charging enough to uphold the standard I had become accustomed to. Seems to be slipping....

We had booked through Orbitz, and the room we were put in was tiny. The queen bed took up almost the entire room, with perhaps 24" on the sides and bed. There was room for only one suitcase. This might have been tolerable for one night, but we were booked for a week. We went to the front desk to ask for a larger room, but were told because it had been booked through a "third-party," they could, or would, not do so. I immediately made a call to Orbitz customer service, who called the hotel and convinced them to move us to a larger room. The new room had a king bed and at least had enough room to move around in, but was otherwise dated, tired, and could have been cleaner. One of the days the room didn't get cleaned at all. Most hotels gave something in the room that gives directions to things like ice, laundry and other amenities. This one didn't, perhaps because there weren't many. They did have a continental breakfast in the morning. The hotel was comparatively inexpensive, but we wished we'd chosen any number of other hotels nearby.

We had a choice of freezing or broiling. The climate control was that bad. It was in the 20's outside, but turning on the heat quickly brought us into the 80's. The room must be poorly insulated, because turning the heat off caused the room to rapidly become quite cold.

It was a very nice room for the money and everything looked and worked OK. It was very clean and the staff was good.

If you want a hotel for a few nights stay, nothing fancy, this is your best bet. Its in a quiet area, it's cheap, and there's breakfast served from 6:30-10am! Staff is very friendly.

Terrible mattress, ants in the room, musty odor. I left the room in about 5 minutes and booked at a nearby hotel.

My family and I stayed st this motel in late May 2016. The lobby and front desk employee were fine, but the motel was run down. The concrete steps leading to the second floor were cracked and the handrails were rusty. The bedspreads had stains and holes. We had booked 2 rooms for 2 nights, but left after the first night. The staff was cooperative in allowing us a refund for the second night. There are lots of other hotels nearby.

averages about $20 cheaper than Red Roof Plus (North) and this room has microwave and refrigerator standard. It is off the expressway enough to not hear highway traffic. There are some good restaurants close by; Seoul Gardens, and Los Amigos. Just be sure to avoid downtown/campus area during school hours, it will add 20 minutes to your travel time

Had a meeting on campus and went straight there from the airport. Didn't check in until much later. Desk clerk was friendly and it took no time at all. Room has lots of outlets, happened to be accessible though I didn't need that. Went straight to sleep. Breakfast was more than you could need.Good value for money.

We usually stay at this hotel when we travel to Ann Arbor. It's reasonably priced, includes a continental breakfast, and has everything you'd need in a basic motel room. On this visit, I did note the room was a little more weathered. Housekeeping did not replace the soaps on the 2nd day, and overall, the room was a little more run down, especially the bathroom. The front desk staff wasn't quite as friendly as they usually are at check in. Having said all of that, I still would stay here again as it is a good, decent motel.

The people works front desk are very nice and helpful.

This was a good hotel that wasn't right in the center of Ann Arbor. Easy to commute to the city, but without the crowds.

as expected and previously experienced, reliably practical

We've stayed at the Red Roof Inn South every time we've been in Ann Arbor for college-related activities. The price is right and the motel is comfortable and meets most of our needs. Some of the rooms are showing a bit of age in the bathroom.

It is a good place to stay if you just want to find a place to sleep. One thing I was not satisfied was that no staff showed up to clean our room. When we were back after a whole day the room remained uncleaned.

Just right for a quick trip to the University. Comfortable and convenient. Nice staff, clean.

Great and clean enough hotel! Very nice staff and all. I had no complaints.

Not a huge complaint. Just a little smelly cause it's old, but thats about it!

The rooms are big and comfortable with fridge and microwave. Good price close to restaurants and shopping.
