Very Hospitable staff at reception. But the rooms were a bit small even though we booked a junior suite. Excellent location. Has tram stations nearby. We did not try the food in the hotel. But the overall experience was a bit disappointing
If this hotel could match the quality of the front of house staff (who were helpful, friendly and attentive) it would be one I would return to. It has a great location, wonderful architecture and is furnished in a very contemporary style. However, as always, it is the service that lasts longest in the memory: Reception staff- excellent. Friendly and helpful. Restaurant- waiting staff very poor. Basics, like getting a menu for food and cleaning tables should just happen..... there was a complete lack of leadership and seating people in the bar for breakfast because the restaurant tables are reserved for lunch is very odd. The breakfast buffet was however very nice. Housekeeping- very poor- replenishing the bathroom, cleaning the bins should just happen! The room- nice and stylish, but the phone didn't work, the curtains were hanging off the rails, the lighting didn't work. Overall, great potential.... not fulfilled!
Read my other reviews which many people have, I always look for the positive and give the benefit of the doubt. However I must warn you NOT TO BOOK this hotel. We booked this hotel for our wedding anniversary and stayed on 6th April to 9th April 2017. Arrived at 10:00 registered and booked in luggage. Came back at 15:00 as agreed to be told there was a mistake with our room. we had been allocated 117 when we registered in the morning. At 17:00 we were shown to our room 123. we found out that there was a housekeeping issue, no one told us or kept us up to date or offered any refreshment while we waited. We went to the terrace and a had a drink, nice staff great drinks. we booked in the restaurant for 19:30 and were told that we would be given a free drink for our room cleaning problem. Arrived in restaurant at 19:30 nice waiter engaged us in conversation only to be removed from our table (physically removed) by a man in a white suit and bow tie who then allocated someone else to take our order. 45 minutes later after asking on a number of occasions our drinks had still not arrived and there was no sign of any food, not even bread for the table. At 20:30 we complained and left, we still had not had a drink and there was still no food. The following evening we sat outside ordered a drink and again waited for 45 minutes. Decided to not eat in the restaurant but ordered room service instead which was ok. The room was tired, with the shower door off its hinges and more importantly the electics where dangerous. two bathroom lights on the mirror did not work and on closer inspection had burnt out and where loos in the fitting. All lamps in the room where unplugged and when we plugged them in plugs ejected across the room with sparks flying. We paid in total just over 900 euros for two nights with food and drinks, I feel completely ripped off. I am so angry that I paid them money and they couldn't offer me a basic service and a bit of civility. Some of the younger members of staff where nice but this is a hotel that has no leadership and no shame in ripping you off. No one has apologised. my recommendation is that you avoid this hotel.
Where do i begin? Arrived early at the hotel, and they kindly agreed to hold on to our luggage until check in time. Went to see the sights for 5 hours, then came back. Our room was not quite ready do to "housekeeping", and could we wait in the lobby, we were given a glass of tap water. 1 1/2 hours later our room was ready, with no communication from the staff up until that point. We had a junior suite, and paid a pretty penny for it. The room was very tired, but we were finally in. We tried to work out the lighting, and got some of the lights on, although 2 of the lights in the bathroom didn't work, I had to use the torch on my phone. The bedside lamps had to be plugged in when we wanted them on, and unplugged to turn them off. We decided to eat at the hotel that night, as it had been a long day, we booked a table. We arrived at the restaurant to be greeted by no one, eventually one of the trainees came, who was very nice and chatty, but someone else came along and moved him on. He asked if we would like a drink, so we asked for the wine list, and he brought us water. We waited for a while and someone took our drinks order, and food order. We waited for 45 minutes for drinks that never came, so we left, and found a very nice place down the road. The next day when we came back from sight seeing, we ordered tea to our room. An hour later it arrived, and it was the wrong tea, we would've used the room facilities, but they hadn't put any tea in. We should also have had bottled water in the room, but when we asked, they said they had ran out, but we could order some on room service to pay for! We went for drinks on the terrace, after about 15 minutes someone took our order, then we waited, and waited. Our waiter came out and asked it we wanted more drinks, even though we hadn't had the first. He said he would get them for us, so we waited and waited. Three times he went to ask for our drinks. Finally about an hour later we got them. Luckily we were only staying for 2 nights. I understand it is a training hotel, although that wasn't made clear when we booked. The price should reflect the service.
The Hotel is in the centre of Amsterdam so you can reach easily by a tram or by a car. Colours of the Hotel seems nice from inside. The staff was helpful, snacks was delicious. Scent was amazing! You will surely enjoy the city.
Definitely would stay here again, as the building and room was very good. Of course, obtaining a good room wasn't a lucky chance. It was hard work. I have requested a quiet room, and they gave me a room close to the elevator, with a weird cut. So we went into lengthy discussions, and to keep the story short, I got a good room of the same size, but with high ceilings and chemistry between us. Yes, as the other reviewers mentioned, they are a bit dark, for the rest very comfy. The bar was nice. Not outstanding, but good. And for this price I am getting a hostel-like room in London or NYC or Paris. So it's a good option.
The hotel is trying to position itself at the luxury end of the scale, but needs to sort out a couple of things to fully make it. The staff are generally polite and helpful. Perhaps it is because this is a place of training staff that several did not think about the guest experience. For example, having selected the 17.50 Euros breakfast at check-in, I had high expectations. For the first two days, I was disappointed at the cold food breakfast buffet. On both days, I had to stop a member of staff and ask for a cup of coffee. Only on the third day, when I went up to the bar was I given the breakfast menu that I explained I could also order hot items. Each time I had breakfast, as soon as I sat down, I would have expected a visit from a member of staff giving me the menu and asking me what I wanted to drink. My room was on the second floor. There were signs of quality everywhere: nice towels, good bedding and toiletries, even a Nespresso coffee machine. However, the room itself was very dark (being in the room space) and the lighting was inadequate. A nice touch was the power cube (a neat arrangement of power sockets) on the desk, but the desk was wobbly and the chair unsuited for working. The internet connection was weak and unreliable. The bathroom area was of good quality, but was let down by the mirror being at a 45 degree angle (on account of the roof). This together with the poor lighting made it impossible to use the mirror to put in my contact lenses, shave or even comb my hair. Luckily there was a mirror on the inside of the wardrobe door. PLEASE put a small moveable mirror next to the basins, ideally one with lighting. Grand builiding Polite and helpful staff 2nd floor room High quality furnishings, plenty of towels and gels Dim only one window, poor lighting Wobbly desk Power cube Slow and unreliable internet Mirror at angle! Breakfast v expensive for limited selection and no hot food Tea or coffee hand made oer cup, slow
Recently my wife & I stayed at The College Hotel in Amsterdam to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. The hotel was very nice and all the staff were really friendly. The food was very good with a great selection of dishes on the menu. The look and feel of the hotel is relaxing the rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The location was perfect with great transport facilities with local museums, galleries amd shopping within 1 mile of the Hotel. We both loved the Hotel and are really looking forward in returning back soon.
Ferilli's at the College Hotel has an excellent Italian cuisine with a personal touch. High quality products and ingredients, prepared with love and attention. Try the ravioli, the risotto or the beautiful branzino which receives it's finishing touch right at your table. A diner to remember, in a beautiful and warm setting.
I had to go to Amsterdam for a business meeting. The hotel was a recommendation of a friend of mine. I arrived early, and my room was not ready until 3 pm. I dropped my suitcase there and met some friends for lunch near Stedelijk Museum which is quite close to the hotel (10 min walk) – also is the van Gogh museum. When I got back at noon I was stunned by the architecture – I was also told a little about the place. At evening I was offered some chamomile tea and also got given the weather forecast. Room service is available too – great and big breakfast and great Italian dinner. I wished the wifi was more reliable. Every time I got back on my MacBook or iPhone, I had to accept a set of terms and conditions on joining – this is a little annoying, but oh well. Also, I find the room I stayed in a little dark. I switched on every light in my room, including bathroom lights. The hotel staff was super lovely and very helpful – like every Dutch I met. I had an early international flight, and the hotel arranged a ride to the airport which arrived on time. I will come back for sure.
