Stayed two nights here, it's a pleasant place with very good staff. The location of the hotel is perfect for day excursions into Madrid by train. The station is just 10min walk from the hotel and it costs about €7 for a return ticket. Takes about 40 mins. There is a huge selection of restaurants just five minutes away from the hotel. Gino's has superb Italian fare. Spend the day in Madrid, return here for a meal and walk back to the hotel, superb way to relax.
We just stayed at this hotel once weekend for lover's day, and early in Sunday morning for our surprise we found the whole entrance of this "hotel" full of working machines: a lorry, cranes and so on. There were a training course on drivinf this machines!! Unbelievable!! Without amo security measure, no control of movement for this stuff among the guests. Never more in life we will visit this hotel nor recommeded.
This hotel is my favorite budget accommodation in Madrid. The name is actually Puerta de Alcala Hotel (I think Metropol was its old name...) Location is fantastic (7 minute walk to La Garena Renfe Station with many good restaurants nearby and a hipercor and Corte Ingles mall a 12 minute walk away). The residential setting is extremely quite and green. Breakfast is very good @ only 5EUR! Rooms are spacious, amazing bathrooms and comfortable beds. WiFi was super fast (faster in fact than most 4 star hotels I stayed in Madrid). Only con is the absence of a tea maker in the room (bring your own).
I already stayed at this hotel years ago when it was owned by the "Krishotel" chain , and remembered the good location (easy to reach by car or by train as the station is in walking distance) . The rooms are still well maintained and clean , the price is really competitive and the area is good as there are several bars , restaurants and shops close by . The wifi connection is tricky and not very fast , the staff was helpful , but the hotel lacks of personality .
A clean and convenient hotel, but without character. The staff were helpful and communicative. We enjoyed a healthy breakfast with plenty of variety on offer. A short walk to the train station for a relaxed journey into Madrid. The trains ran regularly to the city for a reasonable cost. There were plenty of restaurants only minutes walk away. Situated in a quiet suburban atmosphere this hotel give great access to Madrid for day visits with easy access by car.
Real bad attitude by staff, and breakfasts were horrible. Rooms were average, and location was good for what we wanted to do. Not good location if you are a tourist though. I wont stay there again!!!!
I stayed here in the end of December - beginning of January. I was quite satisfied with the location - just a few minutes on foot from the train station, but at the same time a very calm area with clean air around - no cars and no noisy places around. Trains to Madrid run frequently (the only drawback that the latest one is at about 11 pm) and great that very few people in the trains. The tain arrives to a very convenient station "Atocha" in the centre of Madrid and from this station you can get to other popular suburbs of Madrid and of course to the historical centre on foot. There is a mall with different cafes and bars not far, a fruit-shop. The hotel itself is also good, rather small and not noisy. The rooms inside have all necessary things, all was clean and nothing broken, all inside is not much old. Wooden floors. Air conditioner and heater (though for me their winter was quite ok without any heating). Computers with free Internet on the first floor and Wi-Fi. The stuff were friendly and always ready to help. It was interesting for me that that there were traditional sweets at the reception and in the hall. Breakfast was always the same but rather diverce and enough not to be hungry during further long cultural walking in Madrid. All in all I liked this hotel and would advise other travellers.
We stayed in the hotel on three different dates in March 2011, three nights, one night , and two more. From there we went to France and Italy. The hotel has big rooms, the bathrooms are great. A very nice breakfast with cold and hot items and nobody bothering you. The hotel has a good location, near the train station and in a very quiet area for a good night sleep, but the best thing the hotel has is its staff. We felt at home every time we went there. All of the employees from the ones in the restaurant, the front desk, all of them great. They should be commended for their good work. There is no doubt that if I ever go back to madrid I will choose Metropol as the place to stay.
