wonderful city, lots to do and to see. we got a but ticket for 2 days hopped on and off the buses. the hotel was lovely clean and staff very friendly. breakfast was lovely with lots of different food to choose from.
Across from Royal Palace, short walk from best shopping spots. Great location n service. Monica especially, was really sweet and answered all questions without being patronizing as others did. Great value for your money
We received a large triple room. it had jacuzzi in the bath room and a large patio. All the staff spoke good English and very friendly. There was free coffee in the main hall. Buffet breakfast was 12 euros, we did not try it. it is not quite in the downtown area, but very close to the Royal palace and a cathedral. From there we walked to Opera and Plaza Mayor.
This is a 3 start hotel so I didn't really expect much before going there. But once you arrive you realize that this is way better than a normal 3 start hotel. Perfect location, nice staff, very clean and nice rooms with a comfortable bed and a big tv. I definitely recommend it and will most likely go here next time I visit Madrid.
My wife and I spent a week from the 10th to 17th May 2017 in this lovely little hotel. The staff are wonderful and the breakfasts are not bad. The hotel is very conveniently located, being close to the Metro, Royal Palace, Sol, Plaza Major, Templo de Debod etc., The problem I had was that my room backed onto the stairwell and the noise from the lifts and the foot traffic up and down the stairs was dreadful. In addition the wall between our room and the one next to us was paper thin. The conversations, bathroom noises and the television in the room next to us could be clearly heard in our room. Some nights it was three o'clock before we could get to sleep. Unless you are a very sound sleeper I would unfortunately pass up on this hotel.
It is a nice hotel with a very good service. The hotel is clean and the rooms on the back side are quite. The breakfast is very rich although the coffee is made by an automatic machine. We stayed on the 6th floor. No view but we didn't had noise (we asked for it). There is cold water and coffee in the lobby (there were also apples) The reception was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel for the " mid range" tourists.
Good hôtel, well centralized next to the "old" Madrid. We have been promessed a view on the Palacio Real, which we had. Room is nice and cosy. Bathroom is ok with two bad points : nothing to hang the towels once used, no brush to clean toilets if necessary... Weloming champagne and glasses is nice. Water bottle left for courtesy. Many comments on hotel being noisy, which is true when there is noise outside, but we had 2 resting nights and a nap. Hotel service smiling and nice. Breakfast is good, could have been bigger but suitable. Hotel decoration can seem old fashion but I found it in the team being next to Palacia Real.
Let me preface my review by stating that the Pio's location is excellent! It's within walking distance to 2 metro stops & 1 bus stop. This alone opens up a world of possibilities for travelers. We were able to catch trains to Toledo, Salamanca, Avila, etc. every day by riding the metros to either Atocha or Chamartin & catching our trains. There are souvenir shops, restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies & many sightseeing attractions within walking distance too. We were out early mornings & late nights & never felt unsafe. We never had any safety issues. Now let me discuss the negatives. We booked a "superior palace view room" and were put in a room that while it had a view of the palace, it was a STANDARD room on the 6th floor. It was small & there was nothing superior about it. We would have liked to have stayed on one of the higher floors but this wasn't even offered to us. The two rooms on either side of us were NOISY every day & our room faced the hallway where the elevators met....NOISE every single night. Children running up & down the hallway, loud talking in the hall every single night, the cleaning staff rolling their carts up & down the hallways....etc. So much for getting any rest. It did not happen....ever. The housekeeping staff (for our floor at least) was not consistent. Some days they would resupply the toiletries (shampoo, body wash, soap) & hand towels in the bathroom & other days they would not. The hotel will supply you with two keys when you check in & one has to stay in a slot by the door for the lights to stay on in the room. One day that we were out, the housekeeping staff took that key with them & we were left with one & had to improvise with a driver's license in order to keep the lights on if one of us stepped out to the grocery store & the other one stayed behind. We had to make one local phone call during our stay and were charged for the local call. Our superior room package also did not include breakfast...at that price point breakfast should have been a given. Not once did any of the hotel staff ever ask how our stay was, if we needed anything, how our day was or were we greeted during our comings & goings. I found that very unusual & somewhat off-putting. What the Pio lacks in ambiance, hospitality & friendliness...it makes up with in it's location.
This hotel was really great! The people who worked there were extremely accommodating and spoke good English! The rooms were very clean and on the larger side. The bathrooms are huge. The location was perfect. You are right next to the Palace and in walking distance to all of the squares. They have free coffee whenever you want:) my only complaint would be that the breakfast was a little on the expensive side and we didn't think there were many options. It was 12 euro a person. I would definitely recommend you staying here on your trip. Enjoy!!
The only thing that is good about this hotel is the location and its proximity to Gran Via and, Plaza Mayor the stations. I stayed at this place for my visit to the Mutua Madrid Open. I had booked a "double room". I did phone the hotel and asked if the view for my booking was as shown in the pic.. a view of the palace". The response was "Yes". Got to the hotel....the room had two single beds. Not ideal. The view from the hotel was to the rear facing other apartments. I took this up with reception and they said that I had booked a "standard room" and that they could not do anything. They could not move me to another room and there was no other bed apart from the two singles. In the end, they had to join the two singles together. I think I will book one of the Marriots next time.. it was only 20 euros more. I would advise you to do the same!!
