The staff were very helpful, pleasant, and accommodating. The pool was refreshing and clean. The food was limited for our vegan diets and we found the snack bar to have the best lunch options for us. Only one of the two elevators in our tower worked at a time. A decent resort and if you come here get a tour with Jack Sparrow!

This resort is a beautiful resort. Rooms are large and wonderful. Very comfortable beds and pillows. Free mini bar was a blessing. Loved the adult swimming pool. The “No-See-Ums” were pretty bad so we all got bad bug bites. Very itchy. Bring afterbite. The view was spectacular from our room. Ocean was great to swim in as well. Food was mediocre, numerous people including my husband got food poisoning. Very far from town so not very conveniently located. But if you are looking for a nice retreat away from everything this is a nice place to go. Staff were so accommodating and friendly. Did not like that you had to make reservations for the Al A Cart restaurants by 9am every morning if you did not want the buffet. You are also limited on number of reservations. I think it is 3 for a 7 day stay. They do have a snack restaurant during the day by adult pool that was pretty good. All in all it is a nice resort and a great holiday place.

Overall experience was great! -location: it was beautiful being in the bay, and nice not to be downtown so was very quiet. We took an uber twice to the Malecon area and it was about 30 min drive. -beach: while small, we enjoyed being able to swim in the ocean. We used kayaks one day (they’re “free” but definitely pushed getting a tip for use which is fine) -pools: We spent most time at adult pool and it was large enough to float around (many people had floaties which was smart). The swim-up pool was good too, just had kids throwing balls/splashing. We tended to go there when we wanted drinks (and did water aerobics once) but mostly spent time in the adult pool. They were very clean and a perfect temperature -rooms: we had a premium family room and it was big. The property is older so the rooms are too. Our kid’s shower was broken so they came to fix it right away and then no issues. Bring your own shampoo/conditioner as theirs is watery -premium package: it was worth it just to have better drinks, use of the premium lounge, not worrying about towels, and mostly being able to eat at a la cartes every night (non premium have restricted number of nights) -food: this is where I can’t give 5 stars. The food just wasn’t very good. Buffet food on the first night made me not want that again. The pool bar for lunch was okay (Oscar was amazing!) Italian restaurant was a bit better but still just average. Seafood was good for some meals and not others.

The Barcelo offers generous room sizes with a view of the ocean. The food choices and quality of the food could definitely use improvement. Suggestion maybe go away with the colour of wrist band dictating the choices and size of the food at the lunch snack bar and maybe the way the staff look at you. Sometimes felt the staff saw the bracelet and then adjusted there courtesy accordingly. Gold and platinum members got the preferential treatment.

The location of this resort is phenomenal. The beach is amazing, great for families and kids. The room sizes are great, especially if you have kids. The resort and rooms are clean but it’s just an older resort so you can expect the usual wear and tear around the resort and rooms. The food and drinks are what to expect for a resort of this caliber, average. The one very negative thing about this resort is all the rules for booking reservations and how outdated the process is. There is no app or online booking system. You have to go to concierge between a certain time and depending if your premium or not you may have limits on booking in advance. My parents who came with us didn’t even get one reso because they weren’t “premium” so they always missed out on the booking windows for resos.

Staff was amazing!!! Enjoyed their hospitality. My only feed back is I wish it was more of a Mexican culture rather than pander to American culture. I feel I want to get a way from all that in a vacation and experience a different culture. I love you explore new cultures and felt it was more a cruise experience than an authentic Mexican Mexican experience. But overall the staff made the place great.

The poor areas were inconsistent room service once never showed up another time 1 hour to get 2 glasses of wine. The premium lounge is as best silly it’s a small computer lounge with 6 tables and some food but really doesn’t make sense. The actual only lounge is half way down hall on way to Buffett.They have absolutely beautiful property on water with no water front bar, they should move steak house back to premium lounge and create beautiful water front bar/lounge. We were given room with just about no view so talked to front desk but no upgrade as they were booked. I talked with Expedia and funny we got upgraded? Also property recommended VIP transport which we waited a hour and 10 minutes while other vip clients came out well after us and left, charged us $80 CND where uber was $40 so walk across road and get ride right away. On positive note most staff were ultimately polite and very good(other than one at front desk). The adult pool very nice pool service excellent. The property has immense potential. We made most of stay property but at best a 3 star property.

The hotel is at 90% perfect, but the bad part is that there’s a small part of area to swim in the beach due to more than 40 boats anchored to the beach, which also makes it dangerous. Plus the fact that they allow kids to enter their. Cantina area is also a very uncomfortable experience to be having a drink at the bar with kids running around and playing. It should make it adults only.

Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The resort staff were very courteous, helpful and always smiling. The amenities were good. We did not use the gym or the adult pool area. Improvements can be made in the cleanliness of the pool areas. We were there for 8 nights and only saw the pool decks cleaned once (the day we left) and there had been vomit between 2 loungers 2 days prior! Which we witnessed a resort employee cleaning it up with rubber gloves on. Also more care to having all guests use hand sanitizer before entering the restaurants and buffet area. 4 out of 6 of our group got sick for 24 hours and we heard from other guests that they also were sick that week! But the cleaning was sub par at best! Food was ok for breakfast in the buffet, but we found lunch selection was not great and dinner buffet could have been better as well. The location is the highlight of our stay. It is beachfront but I think this is the only hotel that have direct access to this beach so it wasn't crowded and it feels exclusive but it was not. The room was great but it wasn't spotless. Minibar wasn't restocked daily as promised but service was quick when we called. Restaurant service was hit and miss. They mentioned on the website that tips are included but service will improve if you tip extra. Food was okay but lots of selectiona. Overall, we will be back for the price we paid because of its location.
