Loved the downstairs breakfast area and French Style architecture. One morning at "peak showering time" ran out of hot water...so I adjusted the next day. Loved there's a WHOLE FOODS down the street.
Excellent
This is a great spot. Popular with the locals and always a good crowd of working professionals. Yes, DTLA can be sketchy sometimes. However, like in any big city, mind your surroundings and youll be completley comfortable. Its generally a nicer safer area outside the hotel compared to the historic core. It sort of borders south park.
Great atmosphere

Location
The pictures on Orbitz are totally misleading! The rooms look nothing like what is advertised. The rooms are small, old, and smell like an old building. There is no comforter on the bed and the beds are so low we kept hitting our ankles on them. The best thing about the room and stay was the shower/shower head. I do not recommend.
Easy check in process and front desk staff is efficient and tries to be helpful. I wasn't kept waiting too long. The lobby area and restaurant area is clean. Booked a bed in the female quad room. Room and bathroom was cluttered and messy, trash overfilling the bin. And some other gross stuff I won't mention. Clearly this is because of the roommate(s), but it makes you wonder when housekeeping actually gets around to cleaning and how thorough they can be. My bunk bed was dusty and grimy from at least weeks, if not months or more, of build up and from it last being wiped down. I checked in right when check in hours started so it's a mystery as to the state of the room. The hardware and fixtures in the bathroom also need minor repairs or replacements. I booked what is essentially a hostel-like accommodation in a nice hotel in a central location of a large city so I only expect that it be clean and have working plumbing. I recommend bringing your own disinfectant wipes and gloves. Other things to note, not necessarily negative: A thin blanket and a towel are provided, locks are not provided for the locker. Bring whatever else you need to ensure your comfort like toiletries, earplugs, face mask (one of my roommates coughed and sneezed throughout the night), etc. Overall an okay stay. Would be better if the cleaning standards improved. And if you luck out with decent roommates.
Lot of sirens through the night though.
The property and staff was great! I wish that they offered room service.
