"The Porches is a super cute and unique place to stay. The rooms are cozy and shabby chic. I loved the proximity to MASS MoCA, the outdoor heated pool and hot tub, and the truly excellent continental breakfast (local organic yogurt, smoked salmon for bagels, great scrambled eggs and potatoes...)! However, our room location nearly ruined the experience for us. We were in room 26 in the yellow building, just above the open reception area and entry/exit door. We got back around 10pm from a concert at the museum, and could not fall asleep until about 2am, as we could overhear other guests coming and going, checking in, and every time the door closed, it would slam shut. I was lying awake and in tears for hours. We tried earplugs, a white noise app on my phone... but if we ever got close to drifting off to sleep... SLAM! the door would shut and the room would rattle. We finally got just a few hours of sleep before morning activity started. I couldn't believe there was so much coming & going for a small inn. And if we had wanted to sleep in... no chance, this room is right above the breakfast room and we could hear guests chatting and dragging their chairs. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels in my life and *never* had such a loud, bad night of sleep. At check out, the front desk staff were conciliatory and offered us a discount on a future stay... and I would love to visit the area again. I just wouldn't recommend this specific room to anyone who can't sleep through noise. "
