Occasionally we travel to Syracuse for family gatherings (weddings, birthdays, etc.). We always stay at this property. While seemingly out of the way, this hotel is located just off the Thruway or I690 and within 10 minutes of any of the major attractions in the area. The property is isolated, in quiet meadow surroundings that are excellent for walking or a jog provided Syracuse’s weather permits. The hotel is clean with comfortable beds and climate control. Most of the staff we engaged were polite, courteous, and friendly but a few were “neutral”. Our stay happened to coincide with a high school regional sporting event. Though well behaved and very polite, as to be expected, there was occasional evidence of teenage activity. Sometimes it is amusing to observe and remember the vitality of youth. The staff did there level best to minimize any perceived inconvenience. The complimentary breakfast had a pleasant variety of fresh choices. The exercise room actually had free weights and the Business Center was accommodating. We did not use the pool but it seemed clean and appealing. This property is a notch above average.
Hotel staff was friendly and attentive. Lobby and breakfast rooms were clean. Hotel room, however, had hair on bathroom floor. Beds were comfortable and environmental controls worked well. Remainder of the room was clean. Not located in a scenic location by any stretch of the imagination, but we were looking only for clean, comfortable accommodations, and never intended to do more than stay overnight. I am sure that if I had asked to be moved to another room, the front desk staff would have either had the room better cleaned or moved us.
The hotel was comfortable, quiet, and offered a great "Hot" continental breakfast. The restaurant that use to be next door was closed so we had to leave the area to find a place to eat. If going to the New York State Fair this would be a good location.
If you are looking for an amazing experience look else where. If you are looking for a clean room at a good price this is it. It's close to highway ( rt 90 and 690) though it is on a kind of odd dead end) It is quiet and the staff is helpful. Breakfast is ok but there is a good dinner about 2 minutes away ( Suzies)
We stayed at this hotel for two nights during our annual trek to the NYS Fair. September 1st and 2nd are big days towards the end of the Fair so the hotel was booked solid. We reserved early and had a Junior Suite. This is a somewhat larger than usual room with a pull-out sofa, microwave and fridge. There were five of us so we needed the space. We thought we were getting a full suite (two rooms) but we obviously didn't check carefully. Still, it was large enough. it was pretty well appointed and very clean and comfortable. But, .... the sofa bed pullout was the absolute worst. My granddaughter found the springs almost through the thin mattress; there was no padding and it was downright painful. The springs were in the mattress so there was no way to make it useful. Needless to say, she didn't get the best night sleep. We also had to ask for another blanket since the one provided was little more than an extra sheet. No quilt or pillows left for the extra bed. An additional pad would be a simple solution; a new mattress would be obvious. On the good side, the pool is delightful though fairly small and towels are provided. The staff was pleasant and efficient. There is a free shuttle to take you back and forth to the fair; this will save the parking fee and the frustrating headache of driving in very heavy traffic. The breakfast is excellent with a make your own pancake machine along with scrambled eggs, veggie omelets, sausage, sausage gravy and an assortment of pastries and muffins. It was kept well-maintained and full and was very welcomed. It does not have an in-house restaurant and it is not particularly close to many restaurants. While not perfect, the hotel is useful and comfortable and close enough to the Fair to make it a good choice.
This hotel meets the expectations of the chain. What set it apart was the kind, considerate staff. They went the extra mile by including a shuttle service to the fair, for example. It's particularly clean and quiet. You'll need to drive to restaurants. Breakfast was free and nice!
The hotel was very pleasant and clean with good facilities. Our reason for not giving 5 stars is that the hotel was very busy and the rooms are not well sound-proofed. The pool and hot tub were nice, breakfast was fine. Everyone was polite and courteous. It's tucked away from everything - but since the Fairgrounds were so busy we were happy it was. If you go you must eat at Daniellas. The food is incredible!
Newer property in a countryside setting just a few minutes off the highway. You'll need to jump in the car and drive a few minutes if you want to eat out somewhere but Daniella's Steakhouse is a good bet just a few min away and there are apparently some takeout pizza places nearby. Ask at the front desk. Room fine aside from our a/c being noisier than I would've liked. Priced reasonable with fair value. Pull down on the tub faucet to activate the shower.
The Holiday Inn Express Syracuse/Fair Grounds seems to be a pretty new property and was a great place for our family to stay. It is clean, we got a good deal on a mini-suite for our group of 5 and the breakfast buffet is GREAT! The only thing keeping it from a 5 star is that it is isolated with nothing around within walking distance and any drive is a bit of a trip. The facility is clean and everything in the room was fabulous and the desk people were very helpful and friendly, but you are going to drive for 10+ minutes (and probably more) to get to anywhere to eat or shop. We would stay again on an over-night stop over.
This hotel is in the strangest place - we knew the GPS had to be wrong... but once we got there, we were so pleasantly surprised. Very friendly young lady at the desk, clean lobby/dining area, comfortable and clean room, great bed and linens, great shower, very nice breakfast set up. Overall great stay!
