2 1/2 star rating was offputting but price and location made them worth a try. The attached Old Chicago was another benefit we enjoyed. Friendly staff, clean rooms, plenty of parking and the best breakfast bar made us come back again when our trip was extended. Walked in and completely different staff but same great deal was offered and everything was perfect.
We arrived after midnight having driven from Minneapolis after a NBA game. Check in was good, our beds were fantastic, especially appreciated after the horrible beds at our previous hotel. Breakfast was ok. The seating area is smaller, but it wasn’t busy. The room and bathroom was clean. We’d stay here again. The location in Saint Cloud is good and is close to shopping, etc
I stayed here for business and all I wanted was a good night sleep however when I got to the hotel my check-in was quick and Speedy however the front desk assistant although she was very nice and courteous you could kind of tell that she didn't have any idea what was going on she didn't even know the layout of the hotel. I got to my room and there was a loud Christmas party right across the hall which I requested another room and she very nicely gave me another one on the second floor. So I went and got all of my bags and I went up to my room on the second floor and when I open my door the front desk assistant was right there in the hallway and said that I needed to move rooms again so I got all my things and went downstairs and then I had to run out to my car one more time and when I came back in she said that I didn't have to move after all and gave me back my room keys. All in all it was a lot of running around for nothing. I had already been driving and traveling all day long. I didn't make a big fuss about anything cuz at the end of the day it's a huge deal definitely something that I wasn't looking forward to I just wish they would train their staff better before leaving them alone. I will give kudos to the housekeeping staff which were awesome my room was spotless.
The location is great. They are attached to Old Chicago and if the walk is too much, they will deliver right to your room. This is a dated hotel. The rooms are usually clean, the towels are like sandpaper, and the bedding is mediocre. For the price this would all work if they offers any kind of customer service. The lady that normally checks me in during the afternoon is scattered, cannot focus, and doesn’t seem to be well trained. After a recent check in, I did not get credit for a stay. I emailed the general manager twice for a copy of the invoice and finally had to call Choice Hotel customer service to get it handled. I never got a response from the manager. If you are just stopping through town and need a rest for one night, you would probably be ok. If you are in town for a few days, I would choose any other hotel that has availability.
Hotel looks outdated from the outside, but the rooms were clean and didn't feel outdated. My only issue was the internet connection. For some reason it seems hotels in MN don't have the best internet connection, unless I went to the wrong places. This hotel was a very good choice and affordable. It's been a few days and I stayed in many different hotels but I believe there was no meat at the breakfast. Absolutely not a deal breaker, just telling to the meat lovers out there.
When you enter the place is nice and clean! The breakfast was good. French toast, sausage, and more! Room was nice and clean. Beds were comfortable and the pillows were amazing... BUT the air condition made the bedroom stink.
This hotel had one of the best breakfasts that we had our whole two-week trip this year... lots of options, and all were hot and delicious. "Old Chicago" restaurant is attached, and many amenities are nearby in town. The hotel and rooms were nice and in good shape, and we liked our room. The only thing I would warn is that you should ask for a room on the first floor if you don't like stairs, as there is no elevator. Also, the ice machines are only on the first floor.
We stayed here for one night on our way west and were happy with our stay. Check-in was quick and we headed up to our second-floor room. If you need an elevator ask because we didn't and no one suggested that one was nearby. Our room was spacious and updated with modern decor. Our bathroom was large and clean. The air conditioning worked well. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows. For dinner, we ate at the attached restaurant and bar. We entered through the very loud bar and were happy to find the dining room was further on where it was quiet. They have a huge selection of beers and the burgers we ordered were good. Morning breakfast was the usual hotel breakfast with eggs and waffles, although they also served biscuits and gravy and what appeared to be SPAM patties. All around, it sufficed. We would stay here again.
Our stay was for 2 nights. When we arrived the checkin went smoothly however we changed rooms as the first one was missing a towel rod in the bathroom and the air conditioner was very noisy. We did have good results with the manager who did change us to another room that was clean and the air conditioning was very quiet. The back entrance to the hotel was very stained and unclean and the hall carpets were very dirty and well worn. Our room was clean but the curtain was ripped and the old wall heater(no longer being used) was rusted and the bed coverings were old but clean. Not really up to the condition of other Quality Inns that I have stayed at but for the price, it was OK. The pool and hot tub were not able to be used but it was not for normal maintenance, I don't think.
We just barely managed to book a room here at the last minute and ended up in the suite. It was not fancy, but it was clean, spacious, quiet, and good value. There was a simple breakfast available in the morning as well. I would definitely suggest this as a good place to stay in the area.
