The location is not great, although the hotel is on the water it is on a marina, not a beach. Facility is so-so. Some elements are updated, while others remain dated. For example, we had a very old and noisy air conditioning unit on our balcony. Spend the extra money and stay somewhere nice.
Great location and nice staff, but the room was a little small and needed a little more detailed cleaning.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay so much we extended it one more night. Celebrated both our anniversary and his birthday. The restaurant had really good appetizers!
It was great with the exception the room service never came to clean the room ..
Relaxing stay with great view. Not a resort. Very close to attractions.
From the check in process to check out is great. Employees are very help full, answering questions, giving all information.
arriving at Kona Kai was a complete pleasure and release of worry, this place is beautiful! This was my girlfriends and I first time in CA, I am so grateful I picked K.K. Everything from the private beach to megayachts in the marina, the calmness of the island, scenery, the overall luxurious feel of the resort and obviously company of my girlfriend were spectacular. We had two reasons for the trip business and family. We both extremely miss this city and resort!!! Crying to come back!!!
Well the hotel is located in front of a marina, and the interior of the rooms are decorated with nice colorful furniture. The problem is the structure is very old and at the level of a 2 or 3 star motel, and it is not a resort by any standard. The air conditioners are loud and sound travel through walls easily, which makes it not the proper place to relax. The Worst thing, in my experience, Room 158, the toilet flush tank was not getting filled and I realized it at 3am. I tried to open the water stream to the tank, and the whole piping system in the walls started shaking with a scary loud noise which woke up my girlfriend. I Have a video of it but I cannot post it here.
Good experience overall. Building was a bit old but not dirty at all. The valet was great as far as getting us what we wanted and where we wanted to go.
Place was nice, one thing I didn't expect was paying for parking at the hotel. Was a suprise at checkout.
Very good until my car broke down and had to extend our stay. They doubled our rate for a Wednesday night. I didn't think it was fair. Raise it 50 or 75 would have seemed fair to me.
Beautiful rooms,stunning location,kind professional staff.
the hotal it self was alright, room a little dated, i belive it was clean but because of the dated decor it appeared dirty. The Grounds are beautiful and it was nice to hang out there. the staff was awful, rude, not helpful what so ever. I have never been treated so awful in my travels. I will go back to San Deigo just won't be staying here
Love the location and the staff. The room had a beutiful view from the balcony.
The Kona Kai has beautiful bay and marina views. Our room was in need of serious upgrades. The bathroom door was rotting at the bottom from water damage. The shower/tub and sink all were clogged and did not drain. The restaurant and bar are overpriced. All of the staff was very pleasant. Oh and lots of people staying in the marina come up and use the pool.
Clean, comfortable and convenient. A good family place to stay.
I brought my 2 beagles to stay the weekend and it was amazing, beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing. However, it's expensive to eat and drink k there every meal for myself was 30 -$50 and the pet fees are ridiculous. It's a $75 overall fee with an additional $35/day. Also pets are not allowed at the pool and they are considering not allowing them inthe restaurant, but also have a policy that you cannot leave them unattended in your room which makes no sense! So, unfortunately I will not be going back there for these reasons
Plan on relaxing and enjoying your stay! We stayed for 3 days, but had plans in San Diego prior to reserving at this resort. We are planning on returning so we can actually spend all our time at the resort. Very beautiful and plenty to do at the resort and walking distance.
Unique location, beautiful setting, i will sre go back.
I had a wonderful time and all went very well. ~ Good staff, attentive service, fabulous environment.
