Avoid avoid avoid!!! OK so I realize its an Econo Lodge but please understand I know what to expect with this chain and I am not a hotel snob. I am there to shower and sleep and as long as its clean and presentable and quiet I'm happy. However, this is easily one of the the worst hotels I've ever stayed at. Where do I begin? That upon arrival the temp in my room was the same as the temp outside (30 degrees)? The loudest heating/cooling unit I have ever heard? The bedside phone from 1983 that looks like it hasn't been wiped down since? The alarm clock with the incorrect time flashing that looked like someone had expelled bodily fluids all over and that I refused to touch? The dried streaks of liquid down the wall behind the bed? The laughable carpet job? The hilariously bad paint job? The burn marks (?) on and in the tub and toilet seat? The bathroom counter that was cracked in multiple spots and appeared ready to collapse? The stains and chewing gum spots all over the carpet? That it takes 30 seconds for the toilet to fully flush? The dog (?) hair on the top sheet? That half of the lights in the room had burned out bulbs? The smell of mold in the fridge? The obvious black mold in the corners of the bathroom/around the toilet? The "king" bed of two twin spring mattresses from 1961 pushed together? That I am fairly certain there was a rodent of some sort living in the wall behind my TV? Oh and all of that is on top of the fact that there is ZERO hot water in the shower. Like none. Nada. Not even lukewarm. Freezing cold. Fastest shower of my life. What makes all of this especially bad is the fact that we stayed at another Econo Lodge the following night for the exact same price. Aesthetically the rooms were exactly the same right down to the license plate painting on the wall, but otherwise the differences were stark. I don't really understand how this Econo Lodge gets away with charging so much - maybe because there is not much else around - but why would anyone stop here anyway as there is nothing nearby? If you can - stay on the highway a few more miles so you can avoid this dump, do so!
Very good value for the $55 cost. When bargain hunting for a safe clean room, you can’t expect the “Hilton”. Hotel close to I-95 but far enough away that there was no road noise. King bed room was spacious with sitting table, couch, additional padded chair, direct TV, WiFi, refrigerator and microwave. Room was clean with recent paint. If you simply want a basic room for sleep and save $, consider staying here.
We arrived at 6PM to find our room was not made up yet! We planned on an early morning departure and early to bed. After a toilet problem that required additional cleaning, etc., we finally got to bed, which came apart in the night. The outside of the motel was in poor repair with water running into the parking lot. All in all, we will never stop here again in our trips to and from Florida!
First impression, the motel is beautiful on the outside. Second impression, the owners are really nice and welcoming. The rooms are huge and clean. What else can you ask for? And the breakfast was simple but plenty and good. I recommend!!
We were in the area looking for our next Motorhome to purchase. We had spent all day to the east of Ruther Glen VA and were traveling back towards Ashland to find a place to stay. Our needs were met in the decision for an inexpensive place to spend one night at the EconoLodge. By stopping early, around 5pm, we were able to secure a downstairs room. The area of Ruther Glen is at the crossroads of Hwy 1 and 207. If your in need of gas/diesel fuel, truck stops are everywhere. I had looked up the ratings on TripAdvisor the day before and felt they were appropriate for our stay. Rooms were adequate and comfortable. Price was great and with pets it was a slice of heaven...... plenty of open area to walk and exercise with an undeveloped business park only a few hundred feet away. We definitely would stay here again.
This hotel was old, but clean. Beds were old, and the doors were sloppily repainted. Continental breakfast is very basic and low quality. The mattresses seemed to be old too. In my opinion, the price exceeded the quality of the facility. Staff was not overly friendly but adequate. If staying in the area again, I would consider is hotel but not sold on it.
Needed a handi-capped room for 5 days while working carshow in Doswell,Va. I called many places and this was the only motel to fill my needs. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was big, clean and quiet. Breakfast was typical for Econo. Rates were reasonable for having many events going on that weekend.
Don't stay here!! It showed 3 stars on website but it's really a 1 star. Found a hair on the pillow and stains on pillow case and blanket. Walls were dirty and so was the carpet. This place looks really nice from the outside. Don't let it fool you.
My wife and I stay here everytime we travel to Ruther Glen VA. Our stays are usually a week or more. We enjoy this Econolodge for its friendly staff and very clean rooms. I would recommend this Econolodge to those traveling to Ruther Glen or stopping for the night.
We were unexpectedly on I-95 in the middle of the night and HAD to get some sleep. Most places had no availability, and we found this Econolodge at 4AM. We told the on-duty manager that we needed a few hours sleep, and would vacate by 9-10AM. Well, it had beds, I can say that. But the sheets had holes in them, the towels were see-through, and I doubted the cleanliness of the room. We slept in our clothes. Anthony Melchiorri would have had a blast taking this room apart. At 8:15AM someone tried to break into our room. Massive banging on the door and the lock barely (but fortunately) held. We yelled HEY and the banging stopped. It could have been housekeeping or a misdirected guest, but we got up (after 3.5 hours sleep) and got out of there FAST. Not recommended. At all.
