I was just there one night for a funeral. While the staff was very nice the room was filthy. I had to run to Walmart to buy myself a towel and washcloth because the ones in the room were horribly stained. I was afraid to touch things and used a quilt from my car to shield me from anything that may have been on the bed. I didn't even consider using the pillows. The sofa was stained...pretty much everything was dirty. True I only paid $60 for the night but I would expect it to be much cleaner. I don't mind shabby and old but I do expect clean. The toilet rocked a lot, also, and was extremely low to the ground (as was the worn out and stained sofa!) Walls were thin so I heard everything from neighbors on either side (but that is kind of expected in a motel). The free breakfast was inedible. I took one bite of my bagel and cream cheese and then tossed it. The free coffee was lukewarm and watery. I would not stay here again.

this hotel was awesome. The staff, i just love them, made me feel like i was staying with family.

the rooms were great for the price, the service was excellent. I will be going back

Pros - sleeping area clean, location, relatively cheap, hot water worked, free wi-fi, proprietor allowed me to check in early Cons - small pillows, mold behind toilet, bathtub and shower curtain smelled of mildew, coffee sucked (in room), continental breakfast sucked as did the coffee in there, Overall - I would only stay there if you really need a cheap place to crash and get cleaned but next time I'm bringing a bottle of bleach spray.

pros - cheap, convenient, smelled relatively clean, free wi-fi, I was allowed to check in early cons - bathroom had mildew smell, mold behind toilet, pillows not comfortable, continental breakfast and coffee sucked.

arrived late, left early, hotel was what I needed; cheap and clean.

Well, let's see here. I'll put these in bullet points. * Beds - If you like concrete floors with covers and equally plush pillows, then you will love the beds. The nicest touch were the cigarette burn marks on the sheets. * Noise - The walls were super-thin. Between the neighbor's television playing all night and the children with the Swine Flu or Whooping Cough next doors, our nights were completely restless. In addition, the Truck Stop right in front of the hotel made the noise even worse. * Cleanliness - Towels, with apparent red stains, yeah not so hot! * Heat - Turn on the heater and it smells like burning cigarettes. * Maintenance - Wallpaper coming off the wall, holes in the wall un-patched, towel rack hanging barely by a couple of anchor bolts, * Clientele - We were having breakfast when a woman, apparently high as a kite, comes rolling in to the lobby, wanting to check out ASAP. She was belligerent, rude and loud. She made a scene and made herself and the people around her extremely uncomfortable. It was very evident that people were living at the hotel full-time. This is not a hotel that I would return to. It was cheap and was needed for a close location to a triathlon. Next time, I will spend double the money and get a bed and breakfast close to my event location. Do not waste your money on this hotel! In addition, the location is near no restaurants but fast food types.

We arrived after midnight hoping for some rest before going to Kings Dominion in the morning. Check in went well but when I opened the door to the room the heat poured out in a wave. They leave the AC off (to save energy it seems)and it had been quite hot during the day. My girlfriend wanted to go back to the car to sleep because it was more comfortable. They didn't have any rooms where they had left on the AC. It took more than 30 minutes to get cool enough to try to sleep. Of course by 4:30 in the morning I woke up because it was too cold and I froze to run to the AC to turn it down. The hotel itself was decent for a 2 star property but the AC thing made this the most disappointing hotel experience I've had in a while. Wasted about an hour of sleep time. I get the hotel so I can sleep in before go to KD instead of driving in the morning.

We only stayed one night but it was clean and good sleeping. The bathroom was great. The room didnt smell as some do and it was not noisy .

Even though the Howard Johnson Carmel CHurch/Ruther Glen was built within the last 5-7 years, it gave the impression of a MUCH older establishment. The office area was smelly. There were no ice machines, no drink machines. There were no or broken, handrails. The room itself was reasonably clean. However the bedspreads were stained. There were burn marks all over the carpet in the shape of the iron. The bedspread was burned as well. The tv remote was broken, though usable. I was very dissatisfied and would not recommend this establishment.

The hotel has not been maintained. There were spider webs up in the corners of the room, the bathroom was dilapidated and in need of fixing up. The bed was as comfortable as sleeping on a cardboard box, not to mention there was no fitted sheet on it. The air conditioner only blew cool not cold. Run down outdated room. definitely not worth the money. The only thing the place had going for it was nice and quick check in & check out.
