Great family place. My nieces and their daughters stayed here (once again) for our family reunion. Very accommodating, put up gates to ensure the little ones did not go down the stairs, lots of fun toys and Teddy Bears to play with.
The Tinder House was great!! We came from MD for the weekend to go to Kings Dominion! Sharon greeted us at the entrance in front of a WONDERFUL train gave us a tour was VERY VERY sweet! The kids loved her too!!! Brought fresh made breakfast every morning!! The kids loved the place as did we!! The B&B is a cool place to stay! We all loved the trains riding by and all of the different things to do!!!! Thank you Sharon!! Ty Hannah and Family :)
Great place to stay for a few nights anytime of year. We were warmly greeted and the accommodations were superb! The rental is for the entire home and is private and spacious and allowed for my entire family to stay in one place. It is located within walking distance to a few restaurants and shops. The private parking is an added bonus which allowed us to take day trips to Richmond and Kings Dominion without having to worry about street parking. We especially enjoyed watching the morning train while sipping fresh coffee.
One of a kind. Totally perfect. Beautifully presented; you felt you were part of American history. Lots of interesting features, including games room. Sharon was a lovely, attentive host. Also the rooms are literally right above some of the town's main restaurants. Do not come here if you hate trains. If you don't hate trains, or even secretly love them, particularly massive long goods trains snaking their cargo across America, this is the place for you, as they pass right past the front windows, but with minimal disruption to your sleep as the bedrooms are at the back; the games room and lounge overlook the track. Once you have taken in the super but rather compact Ashland town centre, there is much else to do in the area. Key historical sights, buzzing Richmond or the surprisingly fab Kings Dominion theme park (with inexplicably no queues the day we visited) - whatever takes your fancy.
Our family was in Ashland for a long weekend and spent three nights at the Tinder Guest House. Everything about our stay there was perfect and I can not recommend it enough if you are looking for a place to stay with family or friends. The three bedrooms are spacious and the two full bathrooms worked out beautifully for the seven of us. There is everything you need for a relaxing and worry free stay and plenty to do if you choose to spend time inside or time exploring the town. The front of the house has two rooms with large windows that look out onto the railroad. It is so fun to watch the trains pass by while relaxing in the television/den room or while playing at the game tables in the adjoining room. There are plenty of books, a sound system and a refrigerator for beverages you may have brought with you, but you really don't need to pack a thing because Sharon, the owner, makes sure she has the refrigerator in the kitchen nook stocked with water and juice. There is also a Kureig for hot tea, coffee or cocoa. Upon arrival there was fresh fruit on the table and home made cookies as well as a prepared breakfast for us to heat up and enjoy the next morning. We were treated to the most delicious quiche I have ever had with an assortment of muffins the next day and a a hot cinnamon breakfast casserole the following morning that everyone agreed was incredible! Sharon would pop in and freshen the place up while we were out and even delivered a fresh batch of hot out of the oven cookies when she saw that we had devoured the first round. There is plenty of off street parking right behind the guest house. You can leave the guest house through the front door which puts you onto the main street where you can walk to great cafes, restaurants, shops, the library, a local brewery, bakery, wine and cheese shop, etc. Ashland takes a lot of pride in their town and it really shows in each place we visited while there. Exiting the back door takes you across the street to the Town Hall area where we attended a Farmers Market before heading to the beautiful Randolph Macon campus so that we could all ride scooter around their grounds. There is a variety of music in the evenings at different establishments and open concerts and festivals depending on when you go. Our family thought that the Tinder Guest House proved to be the perfect spot for all of us to spend time together and was also in the best location for us to walk every where with a variety of things to enjoy. I highly recommend this guest house.
We rented the entire Tinder Guest House and it was wonderful! The owner was very warm, welcoming and accommodating. She's also a great cook. Breakfast each morning was delicious. Trains ran regularly, but there was no noise problem at all. We actually loved watching them go by. Getting a good nights sleep was easy. Bedrooms are large, bathrooms nice. Six of us stayed there and had lots of room. There is private parking behind the B&B. Just a few steps away are great restaurants & shops. We got a tour by the Ashland Museum of the red caboose in the rear parking lot that belongs to the owner. The town is awesome. We will definitely stay there again. So much better than staying in a hotel.
We stayed at the Tinder Guest House while in Richmond for a wedding. It is a large and wonderful, yet quaint and personal B&B. Sharon, our host, was very accommodating and friendly and made us Ketogenic meals every morning—which is not easy! The rooms are very large with sitting areas in each one. There is a game room and TWO bathrooms which is very nice with several people staying together. The Tinder House is located in historic Ashland right downtown so we could walk out our door right to the local shops and restaurants. Ashland is a wonderful little town and very close to Richmond. It only took us about 20 minutes to get anywhere we wanted to go in the Richmond area and traffic was a breeze. I would definitely come back here again. Sharon was a real sweetheart and we loved the Tinder House.
I rent The Tinder House for my three nieces and their families every summer for our family reunion - an absolute great place to stay. Very roomy, with several extra rooms to lounge in. Very easy to get around - in the middle of town.
The Tinder Guest House is a really interesting space, full of history and lots of nooks and crannies. No detail is spared to make sure visitors' every needs are met. Sharon was an extremely responsive hostess and went WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND to accommodate my gluten-free diet. She had cookies and brownies waiting for our arrival and delivered the most delicious GF Breakfast casserole at 7:30AM, in advance of an early day of meetings. It's the perfect location if you're visiting the college, Richmond or the surrounding area. I can't say enough good things about the Tinder Guest House.
This guesthouse is in an area that we often do business and we are very familiar with Ashland, VA. We happened to have won a two night's stay, and so we had our first ever local "staycation." We got to see Ashland through the eyes of a "visitor." First I would like to say that this was a very generous prize! You can rent the whole floor, which is expansive. Perfect for bridal parties or a family get together! Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, breakfast nook and foosball game room, connected by the long wooden hallway. Nicely appointed with antiques, and cozy, this place had the feeling of a haven. Skylights add a nice quality of light. Sharon generously stocked the refrig. with goodies, and also left fresh baked cookies and a bowl of fruit on the table to welcome us. And then, she left a divine quiche for us as breakfast for the following morning! And for the second morning, she tiptoed upstairs and handed me a steaming french toast casserole! It was pure heaven! We felt very spoiled and cared for. Lots of attention to details throughout the place. Neat and clean. The little kitchen area having the refrig, and some basic utensils and a nice selection for the Keurig was sweet. Beds were ultra comfy and we slept well! TV's in every bedroom and the living room area, which has a very comfy couch to settle in to. The trains added to the ambiance and we only had to go down the stairs to walk barely a block for some food and drink at a choice of local venues...I would highly recommend The Tinder House for those visiting Ashland, and even for locals who might need a weekend escape, or romantic getaway. Certainly perfect for brides and their wedding party. Great for a family or group of girls that needs 3 bedrooms! We loved our visit!
