The Neighborhood:
Commonly known as “Foodie Row,” the Hawthorne/Buckman District places you within walking distance of a wide variety of top-notch local flavors (no chain restaurants here!). Make new friends over vegan poutine fries and grilled PB&Js at the Cartopia food cart pod, share a pie at Apizza Scholls (consistently voted Portland’s favorite pizza), or opt for a fancy night out at Castagna—all within a 1.5-mile stretch.
But Portland isn't just for foodies. Hawthorne boasts a vibrant indie spirit, with plenty of made-in-Oregon shops and boutiques to explore in this hipster haven. Catch a movie at Bagdad Theater and Pub, a revamped 1920s theater turned view-and-brew venue serving local McMenamins food and microbrews. If bar hopping through neighborhoods isn’t your idea of recreation, head up to Mt. Tabor, a 196-acre city park on top of a dormant volcano vent, where you’ll find miles of hiking trails and incredible panoramic views of the city.
Getting Around:
This prime location offers a variety of convenient transportation options to help you explore the city with ease. The neighborhood is extremely walkable, with a walk score of 92, allowing you to enjoy a wide range of dining, shopping, and entertainment options just a short stroll away. You'll find nearby cafes, restaurants, boutique shops, and parks that showcase the unique charm of Portland. Portland is renowned for its bike-friendly infrastructure, featuring numerous bike lanes and the BIKETOWN bike share program, with bike racks nearby for secure parking, making it easy to explore the city on two wheels.
TriMet, Portland’s public transit system, is an excellent way to get around. The #15 bus line runs along SE Belmont St, just a short walk from the apartment, providing convenient access to downtown Portland and other key areas. Additionally, the nearby #20 bus line on SE Morrison St expands your reach to other parts of the city. Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are readily available in the area, offering a convenient way to travel further afield or when you’re in a hurry. Traditional taxis can also be hailed or scheduled in advance.
If you have a car, on-street parking is available, though it may be limited during peak hours. Be sure to check the parking signs for any restrictions. For longer stays or guaranteed spots, there are nearby parking garages and lots that offer hourly or daily rates. Portland also has several car-sharing services, such as Zipcar and Getaround, providing the flexibility of a rental car without the need for traditional rental agencies. With these transportation options, you'll find it easy to navigate Portland and enjoy all the city has to offer. Enjoy your stay and happy exploring!

Our host Hayden was very kind and it was easy to check in when we arrived later in the evening. The space and location was great for what we needed, although it was a bit noisy in the house above us during designated quiet hours. The tv also did not work with the instructions that were provided, but that wasn’t a huge deal since we were only there 1 night.
