Pictures are not what they seem bathroom was dirty, no television no ac or heat. The minute you enter the hotel it’s smells like smoke even if you choose nonsmoking the rooms have a smoke smell, the second night you can hear people shouting shutting doors. This is not a hotel I would recommend for family’s couples or anyone in general. The area even though there are shops nearby and touristy the hotel is horrible.

The first room no heat, could not see out of the window. I asked to move to a different room. Was able to get a different room the next day. The room was great until I used the toilet. The toilet had flushing issues . I had to take the cover off and manually make the toilet add more water to flush out the toilet of number 2. At first it did not flush good it would back up. Had to increase the water flow into the tank prior to flushing so the flushing would complete the draining cycle. Over all it was a good clean room . I was happy

Historic Hotel in Oakland best value in Bay Area.

The staff is usually stellar. I have been staying here since it was considered a 3 to 4 star Hotel in the 1960s/70s. Obviously it has not maintained that rating, due to time and Gentrification. But it is still one of the most affordable Hotels in the Bay Area, and especially for the price-point that tends to attract “questionable elements” in SF itself. The only flaws I have with it are that the Hotel has replaced the Bathtubs in ½ the Rooms with Stand-up Showers, and these are now the only rooms with A/C (Cooling/Heating). And one of the Nighttime Staff is MOST IN-Hospitable, for someone working in the “Hospitality Industry.” But employee turnover for night-shifts here is constant. So he will likely be gone before long

Wow! I never leave a review as im not a picky or difficult person anywhere i go. This hotel is THE dirtiest hotel i have EVER stayed at. Immediately upon entering the building it reeked of smoke and weed. The guy at the front desk was very serious and didn't even say hello, just straight up asked for ID and card. Didn't give me directions for the room or told me where ice machine and breakfast were. Not a super big deal but I work in hospitality and would never not greet my guests this way. We get to the room and Jesus christ it smelled so bad like pee and stale food? Idk it was such an odd smell. There was black mold on the shower ceiling. The water came out almost orange.. not sure if it was the pipes or the water there in oakland. We genuinely had to go get cleaning products from the nearest dollar tree to wipe down surfaces as they were sticky and dusty as hell. Would NEVER recommend a hotel like this and would never stay here again. I liked the breakfast staff and the girl at the front desk who was pretty. She was really nice and told me she liked my shirt. But other than that horrible hotel. Do NOT stay here.

I booked a king suite with a king size bed and the bed was a standard size bed. Not to mention it was sunken in and very uncomfortable. It was noisy and tacky. I want a refund!
