”Wine Country” offers far more than reds and whites

When looking for a place to take yourself and your taste buds on vacation, Napa should be on the top of your list. This small, beautiful town is one of the country's most prestigious wine-producing areas. The City of Napa offers a growing list of highly-rated restaurants, museums, hotels, art galleries, Art Deco theaters, boutiques and, most importantly, a plethora of wine bars and tasting rooms that are known worldwide. At nearly every winery guests encounter, they are also guaranteed a fantastic meal, because Napa knows that great wine and great food go hand in hand. The area is ideal for that romantic getaway, or even perfect as a solo trip. For the lover of the finer things in life, Napa, California is an ideal vacation destination.

Things to do
The Hess Collection Winery and Art Museum

Established by Donald Hess, this is one of the top-rated wineries to visit in the area. The building is located on a historical site, and was built by the masons in 1903. It is worth seeing for the architectural design alone. The winery is joined by the Hess art collection, consisting mostly of world contemporary art, which is a great way for people to combine their love of art and wine. On-site wine tasting comes with a delectable pairing of cheeses and chocolates as well.

The Uptown Theater

The Uptown Theater is Napa's hotspot for live entertainment. Physically, this is one of the most majestic theaters in California, transporting visitors to the Hollywood’s “Golden Era.” Visitors can practically see all the movie premieres this theater once hosted, and a guest can spend hours just looking at the detailed ceiling. The Uptown went under remodeling in 2002 into a live performance theater, but it still has that old magic feel to it. Catering to all different sorts of acts, one can see plays, comedians, musical performances and more. Hosting famous musicians such as Chris Isaak and Dwight Yoakam, notable comedians like Dana Carvey, and even notable writers such as David Sedaris, this exquisite theater is a definite must-go location when in Napa.

Napa Valley Wine Train

One of the most popular activities is the three-hour train ride that starts in Napa and journeys through some of Northern California’s most prominent wine valleys. You can choose either a freshly prepared lunch or dinner meal while you board this fully-restored 1917 Pullman car.

Napa Hotels

The area is home to many beautiful lodges and hotels. Stay in luxury resorts for as much as $400 a night—which feature all the accommodations one could hope for—or quaint inns for $110 a night. The average rate for most hotels in Napa is around $130 a night. Most of the hotels, including the high-end ones, tend to offer deals for those booking in advance online.

Climate

Napa has a Mediterranean climate, meaning typically mild and wet winters with dry, warm summers. The warm months tend to be from the beginning of June until the beginning of October, and summer highs average about 80 degrees Fahrenheit, while night temperatures drop drastically to the high 50s or low 60s. During the winter, the highs average between 50 and 60 degrees with lows averaging out at 37 degrees. The cold front usually ranges from the end of November until the beginning of March. It is most likely to rain during the month of February, but after that, chances of precipitation drop drastically.

Best Western Plus Stevenson Manor

The more modern hotel in Calistoga

Best Western is a small Hotel at the edge of the small town. The facilities are new and provides a more modern uptake versus the other lodges in town. The small touches make this hotel a great option for travelers - coin-op laundry machines, filtered water stations for water bottle refills, fresh baked cookies at night, and friendly staff. The breakfast is standard fare that should provide you with just enough to start your day.

Indian Springs Resort & Spa

relaxing getaway

we spent two nights in a 2Q room. Room was spacious, with a large bathroom. Lovely patio off the back. Parking in the front. Grounds are serene and the property is well maintained. We had mudbaths and massages, and enjoyed our experience at the spa. The pool is very nice as well. I will say that food service at the pool is pretty basic, although the pizza delivered from the bar area was good. We would definitely return!

River Terrace Inn - A Noble House Hotel

Nice hotel, great location

This hotel is in the perfect location. Within walking distance of the downtown area for tasting rooms, restaurants, etc. They also have bikes you can rent if you want to bike around the area. The hotel itself was nice. The room was a little outdated and the air conditioning/heater didn't work. Overall, very nice stay.
