Hilton Checkers

This is a nice little hotel located in the heart of downtown L.A. The facilities are well maintained and clean. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. On the Thursday night we were there, the Checkers also happened to be the least expensive room in what I would consider to be it's category. Coolest feature: the rooftop patio and hot tub which provide a great place to relax and take in the view of some of the recognizable buildings of the downtown skyline. Uncoolest feature: the $45 fee to park in the hotel garage overnight (but it's downtown L.A. so that's likely to be the same at most of its competitors).

I've stayed here about 3-4 times, I get the same receptionist every time --she's new. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but every time I check in her aura makes me feel as if I'm not welcomed in this hotel or she's trying to figure out why a young black woman is able to afford such a hotel stay so often. I always book through orbitz when staying here, and she's had issues with the payment/checking me in EVERY SINGLE TIME. My last stay took me 1.5+ hours just to check in, because she didn't know how to properly take payment from orbitz!!! I really don't care for her or the older lady that always works the same shift with her. Very unfriendly, and not helpful at all. Before booking my last stay, I called the hotel to see if they had any smoking rooms available for that evening (because there's only 2 in the whole building). The rep I spoke with said yes, so I booked. Called checkers back 20 mins later and the lady said there were no smoking rooms. Not until I had to explain I already spoke to someone at the front desk did the room become available. they have a rooftop jacuzzi/lounge that is only available when the penthouse is not being rented out. They do have computers with free internet access for guest to use. The parking is valet only $43. I only come because it's close to my office and work late hours. I really wish they had a more welcoming staff because I do like the property. But I won't book here for awhile. Might try them again in a few months.

This was our second stay and we enjoyed it as much as the first.

Wonderful experience in LA. The family and I really enjoyed our experience

Nice bar/ lounge with TV's where you can have appetizers or dinner.

Very nice hotel. Great location. Had a great stay.

Definitely not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel let alone a Hilton! Disappointment from the moment we got to the check-in desk. Check in is at 3, arrived around 345 and they informed us they had no rooms clean and ready. We finally got our room at 4 pm. Rooms are very small and noisy....you can hear someone sneezing from 4 rooms down. Also, showers don't keep temperature and their tvs lose the signal off and on while watching. I would never stay at this location ever again, even if it was free!

This is a lovely historic hotel. The room was spacious and attractive. The bed was a bit uncomfortable and the shower was really just a trickle of water. It was perfectly suited for our one night stay while we attended an event at the nearby Staples Center, but I wouldn't stay longer because the bed and shower would make it unpleasant. Also, you can hear everything outside your door and from the next room.

This hotel is lovely and the customer service is excellent, however paying extra for internet service on top of an already high room charge was a bit disappointing. Even more disappointing was finding out that this hotel does not offer any option for watching movies. The TV experience is limited to a few local channels and a few Direct TV channels - not even the entire Direct TV line-up! In fact, I would say it was the worst TV line up I have seen in a hotel and I travel for business every month. The fact that I paid top dollar and had to pay daily for internet access and couldn't even watch a move was a bummer. I would not likely stay here again.

Only there for one night, wished we could have stayed a little longer, the staffare very courteous, romms are spotless and very comfortable.

it is a nice hotel, but it doesn't have a multi-language service. That's the only thing it bothers my family.

Located in the financial district, this place was very nice. Friendly, attentive staff. Small but clean, well-kept and inviting rooms with comfortable beds. I would stay here again.

We really enjoyed ourselves here at the hotel. The hotel was beautiful and in a great location. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the Downtown LA area.

I and my wife stayed here for 2 nights. I was at a conference and my wife explored the city. Location is great -- there are plenty restaurants not far away and it is close to subway. Hotel is clean, well-maintained, and has an old look charm. Staff is friendly and helpful.

It was amazing! Super clean and comfortable. The staff was always ready to assist. The only problem was that the keys to the rooms stopped working once but thats about the only problem.

This hotel seemed to look very nice from the pictures, offer a prime location and the Hilton name. The hotel wasn't bad, I mean it was clean, comfy bed, but nothing extraordinary for almost $200 a night. I get it, its downtown, but I would have rather paid more for something exciting and extraordinary. Or perhaps pay less for something outside of dowtown.

I have not been back at Checkers for several years and found the hotel at same quality. Great location and food. Quiet and clean. They honored the $30 F&B credit which was very nice.

This is a first class hotel with all the charm of a small hotel. Everything was very nice, with the exception of the pool which was unacessable because top floor is being turned into a presidential suite. Also, dishes in the hall the whole time we were there. But other than that I'd stay again. The beds were very nicely appointed and there are lots of great restaurants within walking distance.

Great hotel, close to public transit, lots to do nearby. The bathroom was huge and super clean, there was plenty of closet space, and the beds were really comfortable.

Possitive Points: - Very Clean - Well Maintained - Organized and Quick Check-In - Nice and caring Staff Negative Points: - A little old - Kind of isolated at night - Price range a little upscale My overall evaluation is positive. I recomend for business or tourism without kids.
