I generally don't write reviews unless there is something exceptional that I think is important to share. I travel for a living and stay in roughly 100 hotels a year and feel some duty to I.D. this property as one to avoid. I don't want to use the term "ripoff" but there is no other way to put it. A night was almost $240 with parking - paid in advance. (A red flag with hotels.) The rooms are extremely small and the noise level at night was in the top few worst I've seen in 20 years of travel. Thin walls, noisy wall unit, constant activity upstairs, on walkways, etc. For reference, this property compares to a $60 - $70 motel in these respects. It was fairly clean and did have some modern touches, to its credit. Note that this is a motel with an "M", not a hotel. Misleading.
We needed a place to stay close to Ocean Ave that allowed a small dog and this fit the bill. We reserved two rooms--one for my wife and me and a dog friendly room for our adult son traveling with us. Both rooms were spotless when we checked in. Since this was an anticipated rainy weekend and the purpose of our stay was to visit family we did not splurge for an ocean view room. Our room faced the enclosed patio and was lovely. Snacks are available in the room for a price. A minifridge is stocked with beverages but it was easy to make room for our own supply. The price list was quite clear. We did enjoy a couple of take-out meals at the outside tables with umbrellas during a break in the rain. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. This is an older hotel that has had some updating. One of the reasons we selected this hotel was the availability of self-parking. All of the other hotels we considered had valet parking only. Parking is limited in the small lot and spaces must be reserved for your stay. There is a charge for this, but there is a single handicap place in the lot at no charge. There are quite a few metered spaces available in the front of the hotel if you prefer to go that route. Many find that less expensive than a reserved space in the lot. We enjoyed our stay and the cost -- for Santa Monica -- was reasonable. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip.
We were visiting West Coast from UK for five nights and Bayside last of four different hotels. We are ranking this hotel fourth due to cost / nut shell found on floor on arrival / dirty pillows / plastic container top in sink / mould on curtains / no complimentary conditioner. Stayed in Santa Barbara last night for half the cost in beautiful equipped beachfront room. This feels like a ‘tired’ hotel
I must have stayed here at least 5 times and love to come back to this hotel. The location just off the beach is perfect, Shutters on the Beach is close by. It is about 15 min to Main Street in Santa Monica but also not too far away from Rose Ave in Venice Beach so you are in easy walking distance to the posher and the seedier side of the Bay. The hotel rooms are pretty basic but with a friendly bright beachside colour scheme and design. They have very comfortable enormous beds. The bathrooms are simple and clean with lovely hot showers and working thermidors (it can get chilly at night during winter months). If you have a room with a kitchen you get a huge fridge and proper hob and oven (there is a frozen pizza available for $12 if you get ravenous at night). I really appreciated the nice touch of getting beach towels in a carry bag and small beach chairs. The WiFi connection worked well and I also had no complaints about the espresso machine and complimentary coffee. I usually pay a bit more to get a sea view room and really enjoy sitting in front of it on a shared terrace watching the sunset over the Pacific. Yes, there is a fairly busy road and parking area between the hotel and the beach but it is kind of fun watching the comings and goings while sipping an ice cold beer on your hotel terrace. The hotel staff is always very friendly and helpful. I got a late checkout without any trouble and when I mentioned that there was a strange bad smell in the cupboard I was given a very reasonable discount on the room price without even asking for it. Pretty good value for money.
This is a very pleasant motel in a great location right on the beach - we used it as a base for 3 days and easy to walk into Santa Monica, Venice, the Pier and you can hire bikes. The room was very clean and comfy - all though stank of weed! There was parking which is a luxury in LA There was no air con which was fine for when we were there in April but the ceiling fan would not be enough in the summer Quite good value for the location and standard of the room and the staff were very helpful We had a sea facing view on the upper floor so had a lovely little table on the deck where you could sit and have a drink
This is only a short walk from Santa Monica pier and is situated so close to the beach. Their parking is extortionate and I am disappointed they are charging over $20 for the night when you can park out the front on a meter for a lot less.
We really loved this place. It’s steps from the beach, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. We just wanted a base to explore without paying too much and we got exactly that. We booked the garden view room with kitchen and it was great to have the kitchen space and seating area. I’d highly recommend this hotel as an alternative to the high end expensive hotels in the area - I’d rather pay less for the hotel and use the money saved to enjoy all that Santa Monica has to offer.
We stayed overnight during a layover in LA. Having read reviews before booking I was apprehensive but need not have been. We arrived late but were met by the reception staff who quickly checked us in to our rooms. It's a small hotel and has a charm about it that is lost in major chain hotels. The rooms look exactly like the pictures on the website and they were clean and surprisingly quiet. The shower had plenty of hot water and the wifi was quick. If you have mobility problems check to see if they have any rooms where the showers that aren't in the bath. We hired their bikes the next morning and rode to Venice beach and the Pier while staff in reception minded our bags. For our short stay the hotel was more than sufficient
We loved staying here. Great location close to the pier and to the beach - everything we wanted to see was within walking distance. We had sea views from our room and courtyard. Staff were friendly and accomodating esp when we requested a late check out we were able to stay an extra 3 hrs for no charge and they held our bags after this while used up some time before heading to the airport. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Will def stay here again.
We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a trip around America. Clean room but tatty. They have a fridge in the room but it is full of drinks that belong to the hotel for sale so you cannot put your own stuff in there. There is a small Carpark at this hotel for which they charge 32 dollars per night first come first served so you cannot be guaranteed a space even if you pay. It is better to park on the meters outside. These are free from 6pm to 9am Mon, Wed and Fri. Make sure you check the day as we got a parking ticket of 20 dollars which is still cheaper than hotel parking. Room keys were electronic and never worked half the time. The walls are so thin you can here everything from upstairs and I mean everything! We have been to Santa Monica before a few years ago but will not be returning as it feels really seedy and rough. The walk to the pier is 15 minutes walk. The pier is busy. There are alot of unlicensed sellers on the pier. I didn't feel comfortable walking around at night.
